This review is for Ted - a literal human angel…read more Ted, the park attendant in the RV in the corner of the lot, rescued a dog that I had lost while dogsitting for the first time for some new friends. When I arrived at his RV after the owner told me Kemba had been found there, Kemba was sitting in his lap, recieving some calming pats on her head after a very stressful last 90 minutes of wandering away and being found shivering in a bathroom stall. On top of the stress and frustration at myself for allowing that to happen, I comforted by Ted's warmth towards her upon her discovery, and by his warm, sincerely helpful demeanor that he demonstrated while explaining the story to me - the embarrassed and stressed dog sitter who had made a mistake. I so appreciate Ted's presence at Cottonwood Park. He said he helps with a lot of conflict resolutions in the parking lot, which I really respect, because I used to do conflict resolution for over 4 years in courts and interpersonally. I didn't tell him that, but I felt his grounded, service-oriented presence and quiet contributions that he likely makes to everyone who passes through. Thanks so much for your help - and for helping Kemba, who is now snuggled up next to my leg under a blanket

Dried leaves go unraked, cobwebs adorn most of the equipment, and unused basketball courts feel both brand-new and rusted. The playground sand is marked mostly with bird feet, but the occasional shoeprint shines through where the rain from a month ago flattened it out. It was their homes. Desolate and abandoned, sitting on the edge of suburbia where no one talks to each other or ever leaves their homes. Seriously, this place is kind of surreal. True, I've only been here about five times, but I've never seen more than one person visit out of the hours and hours I've put in here. If it weren't for the traffic noise, it would feel a bit like a Twilight Zone episode. Anyway, it's about average as far as parks go. There's a good-sized field for running and playing soccer. Twin basketball hoops stand, there is a fair playground with an impressive array of slides, monkey bars, suspension bridges, and sliding poles. But, as I noted before, nothing seems to be maintained. It's as if nature has taken over and no one can be bothered to do a simple sweep up. I assume this is because no one seems to ever come out here. Why put in the work, if no one is going to enjoy the scenery? It's funny considering how many other parks always seem so crowded here in Encinitas; why this private, suburban one never sees any use is beyond me. Still, it's because of that abandoned, unkept feel that keeps me from viewing this park as anything above three stars.

This beauuutiful 42-acre park contains the largest public tennis complex in the city (10 tennis courts and 6 pickleball courts), basketball court, baseball/softball fields, a multi-sport turf arena, alongside a modern playground, designated dog park area, and shaded picnic areas. Major pluses are restrooms, drinking fountains, and free parking. I definitely recommend this green space and family-friendly park to the Yelp Community :-)

The few times I've been here has been enjoyable and everyone (including dogs) have been very amicable. The dog park is very well kept and like how they have some little obstacles courses for the dogs. The pickleball courts are also very nice but there are some areas that have been worn out, mostly behind the baseline. But nice seating area and efficient paddle system to rotate people in and out. I only wish it was closer to me.

It's tucked away in a residential area, which gives it a more private feel, even though it's actually pretty large. The parking lot is easy to access, and there are plenty of benches and tables for picnics or parties. The only thing I wish it had is a designated dog park area, since sometimes dog owners do not pick up after their pets. Other than that, I really enjoy this park and highly recommend it.

Cons- street only parking, no bathrooms, equipment was all over the place, the hill that folks slide down on is very steep! and goes right into a large jungle gym, the zip line was challenging to get on and off and pretty intense for ages 5-12 imo, but kids were loving it! My daughter enjoyed this park a lot! It was very busy for the long time period we were there with her friend. I do feel like this park is probably for ages 4+ as the equipment leaned more toward jungle gyms, one tire swing, two (never enough swings) interesting looking adult joined baby swings, a couple spinners, one huge scary looking slide that was under repair, a huge zip line and two concrete slides. We came with a friend and tried the swings, the concrete slides, a little climbing on the jungle gym, we did slide down the hill with the girls and sent them down with one adult at the bottom to catch them and it was a little scary! We also tried the zip line with the girls on our laps but needed to assist each other to get on and off. Would love to see more swings up top around the grassy area and maybe moving the jungle gym at the bottom back and actually creating a large slide on the part where folks ride their cardboard down to prevent injuries
