Housed in an old roller rink, Leon and Lulu's is the mecca of knick knack decor and beyond. When you walk in the door you'll be greeted by an employee and usually offered coffee or tea from their small in-house cafe. You'll often find an employee or two on roller skates which is a brief distraction from the thousands of items they sell at L&L. From furniture and candles to framed art and great coffee table books you're sure to find something you'll love here but prepare for a little sticker shock. At last visit I found a great framed picture for the low low price of $2200. I found some hand cream $18 each- but I swore he sign on table said 50% off... so girl rings me up and throws in a " free " candy cane... my total $57I told her it was an error and she said " but the computer says $57 yes it does but it's wrong and my brain tells me it should be around $36 with tax‍ she again repeats but the computer says...a lady came over to see what was going on and explained to the girl that there was an error and fixed it for her and told her the creams were also on sale- she gave me my new total $27... What a great store full of antiques, odd and fun novelties, and unique furniture! There are hilarious, novelty books like poems written by cats and dogs, interesting Michigan decor, and funny jokster items. I loved the stuffed knitted mermaid, but was so sad when I saw it was $50! I realized as much as I loved everything in this remodeled roller rink, there's no way I could afford to purchase anything here, unfortunately. It is beautiful, with so many beautiful items, but definitely just a place to have fun, look around and enjoy the nostalgia. We loved the atmosphere, the bar hop gave my daughter a free popsicle-which she loved, and she wanted to follow the bar hop around as she skated around the store. I visited The Show at Leon & Lulu as part of the first 2017 Yelp Elite event series, and had an incredible time. We parked on the side of the street, and the first thing we noticed was the glowing sign that said 'Welcome 2017 Yelp Elite!' Feeling excited, we quickly entered the building, and were blown away by the interior. If you've ever been to a Pier 1 Imports (I actually used to work there), you have a baseline idea of what was inside. There was expensive furniture everywhere, combined with a multitude of art. The staff was very well-dressed, and answered our questions respectfully. Beyond the Yelp event perks, I was impressed by the interior decoration; everything seemed casually placed, but it was clear that it was the product of significant thought. Overall, I'd recommend visiting this location, but be aware that the price point is extremely high. read more

This is by far the most fun I've ever had at a furniture store! Or perhaps any retail store ever. My face hurt from smiling upon entering Leon & Lulu for the first time, because that grin never left my face until we were halfway home. What a great place! If you've read other reviews you'd already know that this place is an old roller rink, which is awesome. Skates draped everywhere, old signs from it's former life placed high on the walls so you don't forget the former glory, beautiful honey colored hardwood floors. Oh, and a member of the staff on roller skates! The old snack bar is still very functional, and they kindly offer free popcorn, home baked cookies, water and coffee while you browse. As if this wasn't fantastic enough, the vibe is so relaxed. Don't you hate shopping for furniture only to be stalked by some commission hungry salesman?? Well, they don't do that here. Sure, the staff is accessible for questions and purchases. But they don't bug you. What a concept!!!! Someone will ask you if you need help, and if you tell them you are just looking, they tell you to have fun! Then they vanish! Wow!! Special thanks to Austin, who helped us on our last two visits here with our purchases. The first visit, we bought a super retro wall clock that we adored. And yesterday we bought a coffee table and console table that we had been obsessing over since our first visit. And Austin had them delivered the same day! Ok, the prices are not cheap. But neither is the quality of the furniture. This isn't Ikea, but I don't think the stuff is as pricey as a Crate & Barrel or Pottery Barn. And it's nice to support small businesses, especially when they are this fantastic! When our beloved tables were delivered, Leon & Lulu even sent us a gift bag! Who does that?! We now have two incredibly cute coffee mugs in addition to two tables in our living room that I'm actually excited for people to see. This place is amazing. I have fairly high expectations when it comes to local retailers and Leon & Lulu exceeded every single one. Highlights: *The space: Is gorgeous. Think Pottery Barn and Anthropologie had a beautiful baby. Throw in some Pier One for effect. It's an old skating rink so the throwback roller skates add to the kitsch. There's a sweet bar in the back and the entire space is beautiful for any type of event, especially considered how stunning their decor/offerings already are. *The offerings: I had shiny ball syndrome the entire time: clothing, furnishings, jewelry, bath products, kids items, scarves, socks, so much holiday gear, and probably 1,000 other categories of items I'm forgetting. Gifts for every person you can think of. *The staff: Incredibly kind, generous and helpful. Top notch all the way around. Leon & Lulu is tops! I dare you to go here and not buy everything. read more

There's a lot of charm to L&L. Ostensibly, it's a hipster-y IKEA, but the place has a lot more heart and a unique eye for design. This is the place you go to if you want Michigan-themed table coasters made from repurposed tires. Or, if you've wanted a rocking horse hand-carved from oak wood. The place isn't reducible to eccentric home decor either. There's a delicious cafe near the front entrance and plentiful tables to relax and enjoy yourself. It's a cozy place. I came here for the Yelp event on Wednesday and got dangerously close to buying a $2,000 bookshelf. Even if you have no intention of buying things, it's just fun to peruse because of how warm and creative all the items are. You can literally buy a film reel of Leon: The Professional. Who could ask for more than a quirky gift shop in a former roller rink that has free coffee and one of the sweetest dogs ever? Not me. Leon & Lulu is like a wonderland of hodgepodge and décor with gifts ranging from novelty inflatable moose heads for the wall to artsy unique chandeliers. And there was a painting of a squirrel wearing underwear. . . in other words, perfection. Most recently I came to Leon & Lulu to track down a Mother's Day gift. If you know me, you may know sometimes I hate shopping for other people because I can be really indecisive which is why places such as Leon & Lulu are just like Do-Re-Mi, the very best place to start. Walking into the store this past Thursday was definitely a different experience because they were without power yet still hopping. At first I was reluctant because it was dark. . . and things can go bump in the dark. Eventually my eyes adjusted. After wandering, literally blind, through a portion of the store, a chipper employee came and started offering suggestions. When half of the working staff agreed about the greatness of the gift in question I was basically convinced . . . and now I actually am excited about giving my mom the present that I purchased! For the curious, I bought her a Lamp Berger which is like a candle thing that cleans and re-freshens the air around it. I was even told it can clear the lingering scent of burnt popcorn! You simply add fuel to the lamp and burn the wick for two minutes, blow it out, and let it work its magic. Magic? Lamps? . . . Magic lamps! I will return to Leon & Lulu and continue to gather inspiration and explore!--hopefully fully illuminated--or at least with a miner's head lamp or Santa Lucia candle wreath. Sooooo yesterday the hubby son and I went in this store after coming from Pier one and I must say. Wooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwww I love this store, its so hip and funky. Lamps, sofas, clothing, toys, ends and outs of all kinds. They have so many trinkets and decor items you wont want to leave. Not all items but some yes... a little pricey, mainly the furniture is but they are soo flippin unique, totally worth it. Its like the Rust Belt in Ferndale on a smaller scale. We went in at around 7:45pm and didn't know they closed at 8pm and you would have never known unless you saw the sign from the door because these people are soooo friendly and showed us around, they did not rush us or make us feel like we needed to leave (but of course we did that is just plain rude to stay when you know they are closing!) they encouraged us repeatedly to please come back. We definitely will. The one piece we walked out with is just the beginning! Oh yea the lady did mention they serve popcorn and hot choclate too- so yes again....we will be back! read more

This store is magical. When you come here, make sure you have some time. We had an interesting first visit, as there was a power outage, and we shopped in the dark using the flashlights from our phones. I could not wait to get back to see things in a brighter light. Love. This. Place. I first visited this fabulous store shortly after it opened, and I have been enthralled ever since. What distinguishes this store is the breadth of its offerings, from precious tchotchkes and accessories (some under $10) to unique, high-end furniture and everything in between. Yet there is no chance that you will confuse this store with the home and housewares floor of Macy's. Leon and Lulu's offerings are well-curated and full of attitude. No bland Nambe or boring Lenox here. The space is inviting and fascinating. The eyes and feet are pulled from well-constructed vignette to well-constructed vignette. And the store tour is made all that much more joyful when powered by great coffee and warm cookies. Every town should have a Leon & Lulu. read more

First Timer! Went to Leon & Lulu on Saturday looking for some art to decorate my apartment. I was greeted within seconds of arrival by two people, one wearing shoes, the other wearing rollerskates! The rollerskater asked if I wanted anything to drink, and was very pleasant. (I had been there so long, that I passed by the rollerskater again. This time I was offered a freshly baked cookie.) Being there for the first time, I wanted to check out everything, even things I am not in the market for (couches, tables, etc) because it was all so unique. The peices they have really inspire decorative ideas for any room in your house. I ended up purchasing a three peice wall art of the Eiffle Tower. They gave me one still in the original box. I got it home, and all three of the peices had damaged top corners. I brought it back same day and received new peices. No harm, no foul. From here on out, I'll definately be inspecting before I leave the store! The only reason I am not giving this place 5 stars is because of the inconvenience of having to bring the peice back, and the fact that I was really hoping they were carrying more art work featuring cities (Paris, London, NY, Chicago, etc.) Will definately be back when I'm looking for unique peices to put in my house! read more

This is my favorite furniture store in Michigan. You walk in and are overwhelmed by the abundance of furniture of different shapes and sized. as you wander, you are served drinks and cookies by associates on roller skates (a nod to the building's past life.) The associates are exceedingly helpful and are not on commission. My favorite thing about this shop is that you can pick out your couch, chair, or whatever and then still pick out the exact fabric of choice. They have hundreds of different fabrics of all colors and qualities to choose from. It takes 6-8 weeks to get a custom sofa, but it's worth it. The prices are lower that you'd see at Crate and Barrel or Pottery Barn, and the quality and style is so much better. read more

This place might look familiar to you if you grew up in the metro-Detroit area. That's because this used to be the home to Ambassador Roller Rink. Just in case you're feeling nostalgic there are old roller skates and other random memorabilia lining the walls. The furniture style at Leon & Lulu is more transitional than modern. There are lots of customizable options available, fabric samples galore. In addition to the usual items like couches, rugs and lamps, there are also some fun little home and gift items near the center of the store by the registers, including a cool plastic spout attachment that turns any soda bottle into a watering can (i picked one up in pastel blue). read more

It's located in an old roller skating rink, right on 14 mile, just west of Main. many of the items in the store are re-purposed, vintage items. It is listed as a furniture store, but most of the furniture is gently used, awesome furniture. There are also a lot of items that are high end crafty items. There are so many things in this store that every time I go in, I see something new. This is a great place to buy that interesting little doodad for Christmas, for that person who is hard to buy for. Occasionally the workers will skate around the store handing out beverages and snacks. A great find! read more

I absolutely love this store...the furniture is QUITE a bit out of my price range, but the middle of the store has one of the hands-down awesomest "gift" sections I've ever seen!!! Crazy, awesome, off-the-wall kitschy stuff, items you simply don't stumble over any place else...this is the place to go to find stuff for a Secret Santa or Secret Pal swap!!! LOVE IT! There's free parking out front on the street as well as a private lot on the east side of the building. I had no idea what to expect when walking into this store. But, immediately upon entry, a young woman rolled up to us (on skates) offering coffee, water and/or popcorn! I knew then that this place was a friendly, quirky, fun store that used to be a rolling skating rink! The Ambassador Skating Rink has been re-purposed into one of my favorite stores. Leon & Lulu is inspiring if you're looking for decorating ideas. They have a great selection of modern, transitional contemporary & vintage decor and furniture. They also have a wide selection of gifts both quality and novelty but, all unique. I may do all of my Christmas shopping there.... And I can't wait to see the store at Halloween! read more
