To Bianca, the website is clear there is no "facility", this is a rescue, not a shelter. If you really understood what rescues and shelters go through on a daily basis, you might be a little more compassionate. Everyone has the same goal, and that is to help animals that have been abused, starved, abandoned, in-bred, molested (yes, really), shot, burned alive, poisoned - the list goes on and on. Try a little patience, support and kindness for people who are willing to do what others won't --- it IS a very, very tough job for many reasons. They have bad days too, and not because they got 'lost' but because they deal with the results of mean, vicious, cruel people every single day with much worse agendas than venting with a crappy review. Do you have any idea how many dogs you just deprived of a loving home because you had a bad day and chose not to do your homework? Inaccurate reviews hurt, especially when it's about you, and not about what this rescue does, and that's saving dogs. Help, not hurt.

I haven't had a dog for many years but had been considering adopting for about the last year. I checked their website for specific type - due to allergies I was looking for a more "hypoallergenic" dog. I found one, sent a request for information on a Saturday evening around 7pm and immediately was responded to by Erika. I came to see my new doggo the next day (Sunday) and was greeted by Mara outside, who I ended up hugging because she was so lovely. I was helped by Spencer who allowed me some time with the pup, and then allowed some one-one-one time by Cara. I decided to come back the next day to make a decision which was great - they had given the doggo a bath and spayed her. I was provided with medicine, a collar, leash, paperwork, and about a week worth of dog food. The cost for all of this was $30. I named my new pup Blanche and could not be happier. I believe every review should have some balance, so here are small negatives. Someone said the Blanche had been spayed, which she hadn't been, so I had to prep to take care of her which I wasn't prepared for. She was listed as a labradoodle, which she is clearly not (that wasn't important for me, but it might be for others). Lastly, the staff was understandably stressed the weekend I came in. There was an unusual influx of dogs and a lot of drama regarding this. I witnessed a few people being snarky with the staff, and they didn't seem overly friendly at first. As soon as they knew I wasn't there to yell at them, they were all very sweet. I think this reflects on the consumer rather than the staff though - please be kind to these folks! They deal with a ton of crud and they are only looking at spreading love around, in the form of our furry friends.

They told me on the phone that I could not go back with her which broke my heart. I've never left my kitties or dogs alone to be put to sleep without being with them. But I'm a senior citizen on social security with little funds having seven pets at home. So I went ahead and took her there to the shelter So an hour after that I was waiting and waiting and waiting and Iwent back to the desk and asked what was taking so long? They told me because of the cat's age 17 years old, that it was taking her longer to be put to sleep because her blood flowed slower. I have had cats for over 30 years, six at a time and put many down up to 21 years of age. That was the most ridiculous explanation I could ever imagine‼ At 90 minutes I went back to the desk and said give me my cat. I'm going someplace else to what is going on??? and a lady came up and said the same thing and that they were almost done. I told him how upset I was, and that I was going to post on Facebook what a terrible experience it had been. When I brought my kitty home I unwrapped her from the bag that they put her in, so that my five other cats and dog could say goodbye. She had a sibling. They say you should let them see the dead pet, so that your other pets are not looking around for her and know that she is passed away. So when I unwrapped poor Coco I saw that both her front paws had been shaved, so obviously they had trouble finding a vein to put in the anesthetic ‼‼ Why couldn't they be honest and tell me that they were having trouble finding a vein to put the anesthetic in her? Why did they have to lie about it? Her heart would have been pumping 10 times faster, not slower being in a strange place, being put in a carrier, and driven there, so it certainly didn't have anything to do with a slow blood flow I would not take my pet there if anyone ever thinks of it, for euthanasia even though it only cost $25. They're liars. I have no idea what kind of terrible panic my kitten would have gone through back in that room for 90 minutes with these people stay away from this place unless you want to adopt

As of today 4/22/2025 there still is NO humane society or any true services to the community as described in the mission statement. All that is being done is, by appointment minimal shot clinic, no rabies shots, toe nail clippings, and "puppy play days". There are NO fund raisers, community outreach, efforts to help the community in any way, even tho the HUMANE SOCIETY OF BAY COUNTY IS SITTING ON OVER A MILLION DOLLARS! The only thing being done is the operation of a thrift store with expenses in excess of the income, while at the same time the EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR IS DRAWING A SALARY FOR DOING NOTHING BUT DRAWING A SALARY! She has claimed for years now she wants to reopen, yet nothing! The admission for Puppy Play Day is a bag of any pet food. Since the humane society sells pet food but does not operate an emergency pet food bank, I can only surmise the donated food is being sold to help cover the expenses of the store. The ED and the board of trustees are all the same people since they were appointed in 2019. There have never been any opportunities for interested individuals to run for a position on the board, the 'meetings' are closed to the public, and no printed copies of the minutes are available. In fact, no actions by the humane society are ever made public! That is very suspicious! OUR HUMANE SOCIETY IS A PUBLICLY OWNED 501c3. It is NOT owned by the ED and as a community and as some people are donators, all information should be available for public review! The ED has elected to maintain secrecy about all operations while she receives a salary for NOT HELPING THE COMMUNITY! I AM CALLING ON THE COMMUNITY TO CONTACT THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, EACH AND EVERY BOARD MEMBER AND REQUEST THEIR RESIGNATIONS TODAY! Like probably a while ago but there's still living and figured the older dog is looking out after them I don't know maybe it's the mother they do not strike resemblance though there's two black and white spotted I'm having for sure what they are probably a Pitbull breed but they kind of look like they might have boxer in them according to their face features and then there's one that's I believe completely like a charcoal gray. And then the elderly dog is like a brown or an Irish cider color but shorter wiry hair what it has left of it it has heat spots and I think they're ate up by fleas. When I adopted Huxley, I was told he was a sweet, loving, laid-back dog who had never shown aggression toward people or other animals. I trusted what I was told and trusted that I was being given the information I needed to make an informed decision about adopting him. Once he was in my home, that was NOT the whole story. We discovered food/resource guarding that was never properly disclosed to me. There were also things in his vet history that I feel should have been explained to me before I adopted him. My own vet also questioned his age and believed him to be closer to 5 rather than the 2 years I was told. Then Huxley bit an older man at a dog-friendly restaurant when the man offered him a treat. He broke the man's skin and drew blood. And now he has bitten me. I have spent a lot of time trying to make this work because I genuinely cared about this dog. I am not trying to "dump" him somewhere because I don't want him anymore. I have reached the point where I don't feel safe or capable of handling his behavioral issues and I am trying to find him a home/rescue that actually can. Instead of helping me, they accused me of abusing him and trying to hurt him. That is absolutely unbelievable to me. You adopt a dog based on what a rescue tells you about that dog. If serious behavioral issues exist, adopters deserve to know about them BEFORE they take that dog home. You can't tell someone a dog has been nothing but friendly and gentle, have them discover serious issues after adoption, and then turn around and accuse the adopter when they can no longer safely handle the dog. I also find it incredibly concerning that their response seems much more focused on blaming me than on actually finding a safe solution for Huxley. I am not claiming Huxley is a bad dog. I don't think he's a bad dog. I think he needs a different situation and someone who knows how to handle his behavior. That's why I'm trying to surrender him responsibly instead of putting him in another unsafe situation. I would strongly recommend that anyone adopting from this rescue get every vet record, ask about resource guarding, ask about previous bites/aggression, and verify everything they possibly can before taking one of these dogs home. Because right now I feel like I was sold a completely different picture of the dog I adopted, and when I finally said I couldn't safely handle it anymore, I was treated like I was the problem.

It's not hard for me to come up with a reason to spoil my pup, so I had to limit myself to one toy and one treat. Making a selection was no easy feat, as there's so much to choose from! In the end, I walked out with a Kong squeaker toy I've never seen at any other chain store or online at Chewy. I also got some dog ice cream to make at home, of which they have lots of flavors! Besides that, they have a wide array of treats from more independent vendors than you will find at mainstream shops. The owner was so nice and you can tell loves animals! I wish I lived closer so that I could be a more frequent visitor.
