Best breakfast we have had in Scotland! Delicious scones and coffees. Highly recommend the savory scones (not pictured)

If it wasn't for Yelp, I wouldn't have known about Leo's. If you're not familiar with the area, then you'd be forgiven for just driving past and having know idea it was there. And there are so many cafes and restaurants nearby--- many of them being so-so--- that it would be easy to overlook the place. But if you have, then you're totally missing out. The cakes here are heavenly. The carrot cake was one of the best I'd had in a while. I recently stopped here for lunch with a friend and had the half sandwich and soup. The tomato and red pepper soup was tasty, and my cajun chicken sandwich with cheese was worth a trip back for lunch. This is definitely one of your best bets in new town for a reliably excellent lunch. And if you happen to luck out like we did, then I'd recommend sitting outside on a sunny day (of which you're no shortage of in Edinburgh).

Brunch bagel with avocado, mozzarella, spinach, tomato and pesto.

Went for Sunday brunch after seeing it positively reviewed on Yelp. The place has a great buzz and always seems busy. The brunch menu is fairly similar to what you would expect, with a few more unique items. The cheese scones looked excellent and the bagel with avocado, mozzarella and pesto definitely was! I like the range of teas on the menu, which is always a favourite in the morning. The orange blossom oolong was nice, certainly a change from the more regular builders variety. Great looking cake cabinet, although we managed to resist, so will have to visit again before I can can review those!

Had a big lunch and delicious fresh baked scone with friend. Leo's is really the best underground restaurant or cafe in my mind. The quiche of the day, which i had is for vegetarian and it was just so excellent. My friend had burger with crispy potato and both of our dish were served with vegetable salad. The fruit scone was nice too. The most special things there was the hot chocolate. The hot chocolate was served with a cup of hot milk and a block of dark chocolate with spoon. So it make sure you are having the real hot chocolate now, not just the powder hot chocolate. That was so lovely!! The inside decoration, i think it is kind of vintage style. the black and white photo on the wall, the old book shelf, the special clock on the wall, they all looks so " Leo's Beanery". Everything was great, must visit again some point.

Eggs Benedict. Delicious and a good sized muffin.

Leo's is hidden below in in basement level in the New Town and definitely a favourite weekend hang out. I've been coming here since it first opened and it's still going strong. Firstly, they have beanery in their name and thankfully the coffee is good. If I am in for breakfast or lunch I will happily order a flat white. If tea is your thing, it looks like a decent selection of that also. We came with some Yelp folk for brunch here recently and it did not disappoint. The menu contains some of the usual favourites and it's all done to a high standard. I had eggs benedict - the hollandaise was perfect, the muffin was generous and I would definitely have it again. I definitely want to try a 'croque-mon-scone' next time though which looked fantastic. It's not huge and it's often quite busy; there's more room in the back but it feels a little bit more like being in basement. It's definitely a good place to spend some time on a lazy day though. There is plenty of pretty good looking cake on offer to go with the coffee and tea. Leo's have expanded their brand to a couple more places across the city which are also worth checking out. For breakfast/lunch/cake in the new town you should give the original a go.

    Mocha!

Very nice, cozy place (inluding their own sort of library with books). Went here for breakfast and it was excellent. Eggs benedict and a mocha. Unfortunely my follow-up scone order went missing, but they made up for it in pure friendliness. No time for cake, but they sure looked good!

I did that silly stance while walking with exaggerated arms and one of my legs out like I was just struck with a beautiful cartoon cat. If you don't know what I mean then tough. I love somewhere new and this place certainly is. Big thumbs up to all the tremendous home baking, I'm really disappointed about now being able to have time to try the 2 types of soup or have 3 different sandwiches (that I planned on before I realised that I was late and on a diet) Definitely will be back to this friendly, wee place.

Lovely little place, very close to Stockbridge and the city centre alike. Based in a traditional Edinburgh basement, this cafe offers great coffees and a smile every time I'm in there. Even though it's usually busy, there's plenty of seating, so I've never had a problem finding somewhere to sit and read my book, and as it was an actual sunny day today, I even sat outside on the farrow and ball coloured Parisian balcony seating. I've never eaten here, but the food also looks great, and from the many stickers in the window (good food, local food guide, etc) it looks like it'd be a great place to grab some lunch. They also do a selection of homemade cakes that, so far I've managed to resist, but can't make any promises how long I'll be able to keep that up, as they look delicious!!!!

    Sunny day, perfect patio.

Great coffee. Nice tucked-in patio perfect on a warm sunny day. Delicious brownies.

While walking down Howe Street in the cold Edinburgh drizzly all I could think about was having a nice hot drink to warm me up. And how convenient it was that I spotted Leo's Beanery. I had never heard of it before, but I was willing to try somewhere new! Located on the basement level of the street, Leo's Beanery struck me as being quite a retro cafe! The decor is modern and very welcoming. However, it was also very snug, a great place to escape from the rain! I had just a normal big standard tea, which was just what the doctor ordered, and it was quite reasonably priced! As I sipped my tea I gazed over their quite extensive menu. It had a range of cakes (which all looked lovely), sandwiches and soups! A perfect range of foods for a coffee shop. Also, the drinks menu looked tempting as well! Leo's Beanery is somewhere I would venture back to due to its friendly atmosphere and retro look. However, more importantly I will be going back to have a taste some of the fine food on offer!

This cosy basement level coffee shop delights me every time. With perfect coffee, moist, tasty carrot cake and various seating to suit lone rangers like myself, couples, business groups or friends catching up and more. I love sitting outside for breakfast or by the window to work. Friendly staff & a lovely atmosphere to boot. Winning.

A quaint little bottom level cafe, Leo's Beanery knows how to make a good coffee. Service was friendly and the place has a nice atmosphere. Can't say too much about the food, though there didn't appear to be a great selection of baked goods (but who knows? The select few could be delicious!)

Croque mon scone was really tasty I. Their freshly made scones!

Very friendly staff checking to make sure we were well taken care of. Never felt rushed or forced out even though we accidentally stayed past closing time. The food was unique and delicious and freshly made. They also offered us a great deal of the left over baking from the day because everything is made fresh daily!

I adored the lime, poppyseed, and blueberry roulade! It was gone before the soup and toastie sandwich arrived. Crispy on the outside and so very soft and tasty on the inside. The cookie pie was impressive, but I honestly liked the roulade so much better. The soup today was broccoli and it was delicious! I had a ham and cheese sandwich lightly grilled in a panini press. Mom had a chorizo sandwich. The ladies at the bakery were lovely! Friendly happy folk always make food taste better! The bakery was quiet and not busy at 12:30 pm. It wasn't empty, just not busy. We got a table for 3! It was funny (and also a sad commentary on humans) that the still water available said "Please turn the tap off." Silly people. Thank you so much for a wonderful lunch! Mom said very good! Very different!

My very first time I came I tried a vegan cinnamon bun. It was warm, soft, and had that sweet caramelization from the sugar on the bun. It was soooo good. If you follow them on Instagram they even sometimes release what goods are in the shop since they switch it up! Tasty Buns definitely became a go to of mine and I think there is truly something for anyone with a sweet tooth!

Sausage Roll: A very meaty sausage roll. Like it's mostly sausage, with a bit of dough around it. The sausage itself had veggies and herbs in the mix. Perfect if you want a big meal for breakfast. Cheese Scone: Subtle and mild cheesy. I didn't have any butter on hand, but imagine that would make this even better. Twice Baked Blackcurrant & Pistachio Croissant: Loved that there was a nice jam spread in the middle of the croissant. The twice-baking meant it wasn't as airy/flaky as once-baked croissant, but that is easily overlooked since the blackcurrant makes up for it. Frangipane Bar: A really great take on a dessert bar. Perfect if you love marzipan, but don't want to eat one of those weird brightly shaped candies. I liked this so much, I'm gonna look up how to make this at home.

As long as you don't stay overstay your welcome, that is. ;) The OAT MILK CAPPUCCINO was frothy and creamy, but overall it was just okay. Not the best, not the worst, right in the middle. I loved the icing on the VEGAN CARROT CAKE. It was smooth and sweet, but not too sweet. It also had a pop of citrus. As for the cake, I was underwhelmed. It was lacking in carrot flavor and was denser than I'd prefer. However, I did enjoy the big chunks of nuts and raisins. EXTRA: Super cute decor They have a retail section in the front that sells coffee, jewelry, mugs, pens, vitamins, etc. Friendly service Decent size space and amount of tables The bathroom is downstairs "Weekends are lap top free" that's what the sign says, at least Not sure how I feel about this sign: "If busy, please limit your stay to an hour.. thanks for being cool."
