On a cruise with a stop in Avalon. I was not feeling good and had a telemedicine appt and dr prescribed a nasal spray. I asked the dr to send the prescription to Leo's as they appear to be the only drugstore in the area. After a couple hours I called Leo's to ensure they received the prescription. The person who answered was not very helpful. After checking their system and reiterating twice they did not receive it, she finally checked with someone who said they have it but since I hadn't used them before I need to provide them additional info once I arrive. She would not take the info over the phone. So after I arrive she gives me a slip of paper and asked me to fill it out. They requested some info I did not have which apparently come from a prescription card. I have had the same medical insurance for over ten years and have never been asked for that and so I mentioned I did not know the info they wanted. She said if I didn't know it, I would have to pay full price and so I asked how much and whether they had a way to find what the missing info is. She said she didn't know until after they filled it. She walked into the back for a moment then came back and basically said "It will be ready at 2:30". So I just figured they were able to get the info they needed from my medical insurance. I went outside and logged in to my medical insurance app and used their Virtual Assistant to ask how to find my prescription card. it took my to my Express Scripts account. After a quick search on ES site, I found the prescription card they were asking for, downloaded the info and went back inside to give them the info. It was a different person behind the counter this time and so I explained the situation and showed her the card and info. She wrote down all the info and I left. Returned at 2:30 and they tell me that the info provided isn't correct and so ended up paying full price. The 2nd person obviously did not provide the prescription card info to the pharmacist when I went back inside. I wasn't feeling well so really didn't feel like arguing with them about it. My fault for not knowing I had a prescription card with info that's different than my medical insurance. However it didn't help that they were not friendly nor helpful. And like I said, I know I paid full price because the 2nd person didn't give the pharmacist the prescription card info I provided to her. Recommend the store for trinkets but not if you are needing to get a prescription filled. I feel bad for the residents that this is their only choice. read more

They pack a LOT into one small, space. It's like the town's WalMart or something. No matter how obscure it is, if you want it, there's probably something close enough to it in this place. Amazing pharmacist! I was stranded, without essential medications. They were so kind, accommodating and gracious in a situation that was difficult for all. The ferry was unable to cross, 2 days now. We bought a great deck of cards! They had several types card games available. We got a deck of cards with large numbers.

The cashier at the front counter was very rude. I asked for an item, and she only had 1 option she offered. I was told they were behind the counter. I asked for a specific charging cable. She sold me the cable and charger. On my way out I looked at the display from a distance and found my item. I had spent 24.00. The cable I needed was 9.00. I took 2. Even though she created the problem, she wouldn't refund the difference to my card. Times are tough but do you seriously have to take advantage of the Tourist. First rude sales person I have ever met in the years of coming here. read more

This drug store is at the prime location in downtown Avalon. Anything you need you can find them here. Essentials, cosmetics, over the counter drugs, prescription drugs, snacks, little souvenirs. The prices are a bit high but it's the most convenient location, can't beat that! read more

The good: I came here twice and enjoyed perusing their interesting gift items. There are many great souvenir items here and beach accessories. You can buy snorkeling gear, beach umbrellas, beach mats, jewelry, candles, drugs, lotions, wind chimes and much more. They do have a full operating pharmacy in the back of the store. The store is a bit cramped in terms of the layout but they offer an interesting assortment of gifts. The bad: Some items here cost more than you can get it elsewhere but of course you're paying for the convenience. It's right across the street from the beach so it's an easy spot to get some last minute items. I will never return. i had my mask on at checkout & the lady, i use that word loosely, checking me out was the absolute worst! she has a mask on behind a shield tells me to cover my nose with my mask as she's touching my groceries & cash with no gloves with her dirty germ infested hands. she made me so sick to my stomach i had to immediately step out of the store. A bitter miserable local fuming inside as she has to watch visitors happy smiling & enjoying their vacay. my stomach turns just thinking I had any interaction with this kind of evil lady. she smells of jealousy & bitterness. yuck. . I am replying to the review left by Heidi S. Heidi is poorly informed regarding the use of face masks and protective shields. The cashier was correct when she asked Heidi to cover her nose with her mask. Wearing the mask is useless when the nose is uncovered. In addition, the employee has a full right to request masks be worn appropriately. She not only had her mask on but also provided her customers with additional protection as she wears the face shield. I have lived on the island during the summers all my life. I have always found Leo's Drug store and its employees to have wonderful customer service. I find Heidi's review appalling and her comments show her ignorance about covid transmission. And the comments about the cashier's "dirty germ infested hands", are offensive. Did Heidi see this woman not washing her hands or not using hand sanitizer after leaving the bathroom? Came here on 7/29 about an hour before my 7:30 pm ferry back to Long Beach for souvenirs and Dramamine. Long story short, they charged me twice for a lip balm. Not a huge deal, just 3.19 more out of my pocket, but, considering the other reviews from here, really gotta question if this was actually an 'accident' or just something the cashier figured I wouldn't notice. The receipts conveniently only have descriptions of about 1/4 of their items and the rest are given the same generic, vague label, so you have to manually trace each item to its price tag, which is how I figured out they double charged me. Definitely would not come back here. Wish I had gone to the Vons for the Dramamine and stuck with the other souvenir shops. read more

The pharmacy here really saved my vacation. I have two really important daily medications I need for my general well-being. But while we were about to board the boat I realized I forgot them. Yeah I know I said the meds are important so it was really stupid to forget them especially since we weree going to be there for four days. Anyway, I went on Yelp to find a pharmacy on Avalon and found Leo's. I called ahead to ask what I need to do. They gave me clear instructions on what to do once I get there. Once I got to the pharmacy it was as easy as she described on the phone. I gave her all the information they needed to fill my prescriptions. But, they called me about a half hour later saying that my insurance would not approve a vacation override. Ugh!. Anyway, the pharmacy still did their best to accommodate me. I have lived in Las Vegas for twenty years and know a thing or two about customer service. I truly understand that if it was not for the tourists. My town....my current job....probably would not exist. From what I gather...Avalon is dependent on tourists....period. We rolled into Leo's Catalina Drug Store (LCDS) in search of a postcard and birthday card for BW along with some stamps to send them. Sure, LCDS had those items but the when it came time to ring it all up, things went sideways. The lady behind the register was without smile and not what one would expect on an island, in a town, like Avalon. Almost impatient when I asked for the nearest post office, she told me it was across the street. Cool. I tried to make light and create some happiness, but she was having none of it. Fine. I can take the items I purchased and go on my way. BUT WAIT. Across the street? The directions forced me to seek the assistance of two other business's to find a post office drop off. I wish I could help out other yelpers, but I am still confused. The post office is in a building to the right of the Chinese restaurant. Sure LCDS had what I needed, but it left a foul taste in my mouth. I am due back in Avalon in December and will do one of two things. Remember to bring everything I need for a smooth running vacation, or seek the items I need from someplace else. bought a few small items here and the cashier ran my card, told me it was declined when the machine said approved, told me to run it again and the cashier again told me it was declined. Unknown at the moment she had refunded the second debit on my account but not the first while I was getting cash. I pulled up may bank account after leaving is how i knew I was charged. So I was charged three times and credited once. The scam is the cashier charges you twice, tells you each time its declined, refunds you once, and pockets your cash. Why? So the till doesn't come up short! Thieves, ask to see all the receipts, I will be contact the chamber to find out who the owner of the store is as this is a small establishment.... read more

In traveling from the Pacific Northwest to Avalon, I encountered an upper respiratory "bug" that was a game changer and it blossomed into an uncomfortable congestion. Leo's was staffed by a registered pharmacist, who avoided any eye contact and preferred not to be addressed or disturbed, and there was a clerk behind a nearby register. I noted no bargain-priced items as I briefly scanned items with familiar prices, but I purchased over-the-counter decongestants and appreciated the resource. read more

If you need to go to a pharmacy, this is the place to go. I never knew they had one before, nor did I ever pay attention to the sign ("Drug Store" lol). I had forgot my hairbrush and found a pretty good selection here. They also had a pretty big selection of souvenirs (including jewelry) and toiletries--I found the most wonderful smelling all natural organic lotion there. My only disappointment with this place was the cashier wasn't very friendly. We arrived on the Island late on a Friday afternoon, and when I got around to the unpacking, I realized I had left my migraine medication on the Mainland. I was scared, and it was nearly 6 o'clock! A local told us about Leo's Drugstore. We raced there, and a very kind Pharmacist named Bill got me the medication I needed, just before the Pharmacy was closing for the night.
