So I think of myself as a pretty organized guy. Over the past 20 years I had kept every "important" paper, every medical claim, every car registration certificate, and every paper for my student loans which had long since been paid off. She's seen so many different ways of organizing that her tool box is full of great ideas. And if it doesn't work the first time, she tries another approach. After I retired, my husband "gave" me a year to convert my home office into my office/craft room. Two years later we realized I was just moving things around and not making any progress. He suggested that there must be "people" out there who could help me. I interviewed several people and Lauren was my heads up favorite. We worked together and solved the problems. Today my "home office" still has my dual-monitor computer, but my sewing table is here also (this has made COVID-19 mask making possible), my hordes of yarn are neatly sorted in rolling color coded drawers and hanging sweater bags, and there was even room for a small fold out double bed to supplement our guest accommodations! My electronic "parts" and craft supplies are now in neatly labeled color coded boxes. When I recently needed to find my web cam for Zoom meetings from my desktop computer - voila there it was in a box marked "Headsets and Web Cams." Books are on bookshelves instead of in boxes, slides are in cupboards waiting for time to send to them be scanned. Life is much more manageable. My bedroom closet shelves are full of labeled boxes for things like Vitamins, CPAP supplies, Dental, Optical, and so forth. Lauren is a dream. I contacted her while I was in between jobs in December/January. I was fortunate enough to have three weeks off before I started a new job, during which I was planning on getting a lot of life stuff and to do's done that had built up over months of being overworked and commuting three hours a day. As my three weeks came to an end, I realized how much I didn't finish. I found her on Yelp and we got in touch in January for her to help me out. As my new job started to suck up a lot of time again, we ended up not getting together to organize my apartment until March. She diligently and respectfully stayed in touch with me until both of our calendars synced. Once she came over to my place, we spent six hours organizing my closet, my bedroom, my entryway closets and my kitchen. In just under two months (with the winter holiday break in between) Lauren developed a floor plan, scheduled cleaning and purging days, and worked with us to rearrange the office for our small non profit office space. We now have a beautiful, spacious office and bounds more storage space without having to buy anything new. Our "before" office was quite messy, with crowded desk configurations and WAY too many filing cabinets with shelving units holding stuff that didn't really need to be there. Our "after" office allows us to work more collaboratively because of the new open space and more efficiently because of the new designated working areas. This kind of larger systemic change is difficult to implement when we're busy all year working with students both at our center and in schools, so to have the expertise and patience of Lauren was really the only way we could have made such necessary and drastic improvements. I am a pretty organized person when it comes to planning events, fund raisers, etc. Because I am constantly working on events, i tend to dump and move onto the next event. In my down time I get down to the nitty, but maybe not the gritty in organizing my own stuff. I will also be more likely to work the gritty if I am working with someone.
