    Although a bit of a whole in the wall, they have Great Korean food and were some of the best food we have had in Halifax.

    Went today, had the spicy pork bento box. Tasted lovely and spicy and fresh, can't forget fresh. The price was great for what I got too.

The flavors here were rich and deep and maybe even mild for me but... potato was nowhere to be found in potato soup. The galbi was sweet and well marinated, soft yet chewy. Wholesome bowl of bibimbap with a good mix and balance of textures and flavors from the veggies, meat, grains and egg, bound by a few squeezes of gochujang. I wish there was more seafood in the pancake, but what was there made up in taste. Settled in a quiet and sleepy plaza, we were their last customers for the night. Service was attentive and thoughtful, the server asked about our preferences for water temperature and cleaned up promptly in a team. The restaurant offers KBBQ in addition to a la carte.

It's a small space with maybe a couple of dozen covers, simply decorated with some lovely fabric prints on the walls. Tables have the hot grill plate, if you're going that way. Our waitress was delightful, especially when she discovered she was entertating a fellow Korean speaker. Encouragingly the clientele was heavy on oriental folk and the food was just superb. We went quite light, what with it being lunchtime and everything was tasty, good size and very authentic, according to my daughter. With the population growing in the area, I sincerely hope this excellent establishment flourishes.

The portions were on the small side and I hardly got any vegetables or potatoes :( The taste was ok though, but not as fantastic as I had hoped. I got the Seoul Chicken, regular sized plate ($7.15). I got white rice instead of fried rice. The plate came with the teeniest portion of vegetables (cabbage, carrots and celery) and about 7 tiny cubes of potatoes. The portion of chicken was ok, but by no means generous. The amount of rice was in proportion to the meat, I didn't have much rice leftover, so at least the plate wasn't filled with rice. The chicken itself tasted good. It was fried chicken pieces, mostly dark meat, but it wasn't too fatty or gristley at least. The sauce was sweet and savoury. It was not spicy. The potatoes were a bit boring without too much flavour to them. I liked the lightly pickled vegetables. They were still somewhat crunchy. I would have liked some more though. Service was very courteous and efficient. Korea Garden is in the Scotia Square food court, which is branded "The Mix." There's lots of seating. I'm glad that I tried it, but I certainly am not hooked on it, like I've read other reviewers (both on Yelp and other platforms) are, lol. I guess it's all for the best since I'm from out of town anyway.

It seems that the Seoul Chicken (which looked awesome) is the all time favorite. I personally went with the Spicy Shrimp served with fried rice that is fantastic. The 7 shrimp where huge, the rice very flavorful and not the least bit greasy. The plate came with roasted potatoes and marinated cabbage and carrots (not kimchi, but they do serve that). I added a gyoza dumpling and it still was less than $7. The staff are very friendly and you know this place is one people come back to again and again...the server handed the guy behind me a Pepsi before he even got the words out. He's obviously a regular...smart man. I'm tempted to go back tomorrow.

Before heading out, we selected five items from the extensive menu, and chose to eat-in. When I handed the list of items we wanted, the hostess graciously suggested that the amount of food might be too much for two diners. My response was that the intent was to get to taste as broad a range of dishes possible, rather than a limited number based on just two of us. Turns out that had there been four of us dining, there was plenty of food to go around. We were the only Caucasians present. I think there were five other tables occupied, and the customers were relaxed regulars who obviously had a preference for this venue. I think the wait time for the food was about 15 - 20 minutes. As the dishes started arriving, we were issued chopsticks and spoons. Neither of us were experienced in the use of chopsticks, so forks were the first request. Maybe even knives, next time. The dishes were produced without any ostentatious flourish. All were hot and the dishes well heated and I found that out the hard way. I was impressed with the hostess. She was the only employee in the serving area, in addition to an unknown number employed in the kitchen. So she did the serving, the cleanups, answered the phone, and dealt with the take-our orders. She wore an engaging smile, and was gracious at all times. No lurking nearby as we ate, but she had a very good situational awareness of all that was taking place. There was also a "call" button on the table, which brought her immediately to us to answer a question. With her poise and skills, there are a lot of servers and hostesses I have encountered at other dining spots who could have learned from watching her for even a short time. The food surpassed any expectations. It was all excellent. I felt that the kimchee fried rice might not have delivered a full kimchee experience. And then I spotted a couple of small pieces of cabbage on one of the condiments plates and popped one the into my mouth. My sinuses suddenly felt as if they were on fire. My face grew hot, and I realized that this had to be the genuine item. Next time, my approach will be a bit more circumspect, but I will again partake. My son and I will be back, and will make sure that there are one or two others dining with us. This was an experience we both want to share with others.

The vegetables were green cabbage, red cabbage, carrots, onions, and spring mix lettuce. There was also a fried egg on top. No mushrooms or zucchini. And definitely no gosari. The rice was white rice and it was nicely cooked though. Overall it was an enjoyable meal, even though it was lacking some ingredients that I really like in bibimbap. Also the amount of meat was fairly minimal. My husband's Dakgalbi Combo said it was supposed to come with 2 Gimmari dumplings, but it only came with one :( It was good, but where's my other one? It's basically glass noodles, wrapped in seaweed, battered, then deep-fried. I wish we had gotten 2, as per the menu. The chicken was good, but a bit on the dry side. It had a fiery kick to it. There's some seating inside the restaurant and one lonely table for 2 in front of the restaurant, which is where we ate. Stopping in around 4pm on a Tuesday, it was pretty quiet in the small shop, other than the stream of music videos playing on the TV. I'm not even sure what the source was given that MuchMusic and MTV barely play any music these days. Ordering at the main counter, I went with the sweet and spicy chicken combo ($8.50) which comes with rice, salad and miso soup, and I tacked on a bottle of water as well. Sitting down at the small counter running along the window, I took in some Adele and other pop music mixed with the sizzle of the deep fryer in the back and notes of spice in the air. It wasn't long before I had my container of grub and was on my way elsewhere to dig in. Upon opening the container, the first thing you're going to see is the respectably-sized pile of deeply red hunks of chicken. I'm pretty far from being a Korean food expert, but I assume that their ubiquitous fermented chili paste, gojuchang, plays a leading role in this chicken. The hint of fermented tang to it would suggest that as well. That, combined with the spice and slight crispness to the chicken made for a tasty entree. I'm not entirely confident that the pieces of chicken didn't come out of a bag: they weren't that mushy texture that frozen chicken can be, or overly dry, just not particularly moist and way too uniform. A pleasant surprise was a couple fried dumplings, which were crispy on the outside, and juicy and pork-tastic inside. The steamed rice was cooked perfectly and was easy to eat with chop sticks. My salad seemed to be run of the mill, creamy coleslaw. It was a bit disappointing in that it would have been nice to try a Korean salad, but it actually helped balance out the heat of the spicy chicken. The cup of miso soup was nice as well, with a mild broth that still had a nice umami flavour, with bits of konbu and ultra-tender cubes of tofu. All in all, it was a very well rounded meal, and at a very good price. They're a unique business in the city, so I hope they can carve out the niche they deserve and I'll be back in the near future so that I can try out their battered chicken.
