Be very careful dealing with Leslie. My wife ordered some decorative plates, charged to a credit card. After a couple months they never appeared. Do to the length of time this took our credit card company (they're going to be gone also) would not rectify this transaction. Neither would Leslie. Have had multiple problems over the years: being spoken down to, and no one being able to process a simple low cost return, with proof of purchase, after being told I would receive a refund in a few days. I never did, so I gave up. I will admit I'm likely not the biggest or highest spending customer of this store, and as such don't expect to have the red carpet rolled out for me. What I do expect is to be treated with A basic level of respect, and for the owner (an intimidating woman who thinks so highly of herself it's palpable) to know what's going on in her business. read more

I was visting Santa Barbara with my husband for a few days and we had just enjoyed a nice brunch nearby at the Bella Vista. I realized through my yelp app that this place, which I had bookmarked after reading good reviews, was nearby. I love stationary and paper goods and was in the market for some thank you cards so I thought we'd stop in. There were three women working in the store. As we approached the entrance I could hear them chatting. As soon as we walked inside, they became silent. The two women who were closest to the front of the store looked at us then turned around to continue with their product arranging. I thought it was a bit rude that neither of them greeted us or at least gave us a simple smile, but continued walking in anyways to browse around. As we approached the area where the third woman was standing, she looked us up and down and gave us this look like "what are you doing here?". I said a friendly hi and she replied after an awkward moment with a very hesitated hello. I had never felt so unwelcome in a shop before. It was totally unexpected having read only positive reviews on here. Was it not a store open to the public? Was it by appointment only or something? Was I missing something? My husband and I were the only customers in the shop and none of the three women offered to help at all during the time we were in there. I felt like somehow (based on our appearance?) they had decided we were not worth being friendly towards. Maybe it was just bad timing or something, but the negative energy I experienced that day left a very bad first impression. It made me want to cut my browsing short, get outta there and not return even though I probably would have purchased a couple of things, as I usually do at paper & stationary shops. read more

This is the place that taught me the importance of nice stationary and cards, thus creating my obsession with Crane's Stationary. When I graduated from high school this is where I went to purchase the Thank You cards. Sorry, I'm just not a Hallmark kind of gal! Having our wedding invitations prepared by Letter Perfect was a little like having Breakfast at Tiffany. The quality was unquestionable and the understanding of etiquette exacting. We chose Crane and Company for the paper and engraving. Instead of the double envelope, we chose a stenciled floral pocket with brushed gold folded invitation inside. Beautiful lace effect. Response cards, envelopes and accommodations separated by tissue. Stunningly simple. We were guided through each detail of proper form and personalization by Leslie and her staff. Leslie retained a calligrapher to address both the invitations and the thank you envelopes. (So smart.) I stuffed the invitations just because it was fun to "play" with them. I have been a customer of Letter Perfect for over 30 years; strictly due to their professionalism, outstanding customer service and know-how. Letter Perfect knows the rules of etiquette- particularly how it translates to written materials. They also (especially Leslie the owner) are incredibly flexible at working with me when my personal budget or time frame prohibits me from simply ordering straight out of their vendor books. When I fall in love with a card or invitation, but a complete order is beyond my budget, they will customize the order by suggesting what parts will be unnoticeable and can be eliminated, or which parts can be done in house to save money. I have also had them print items in house for me when their vendor was unable to meet my very tight deadline. I have dropped off gifts for them to wrap, as my skills in that area are somewhat lacking, and I always end up with the single most beautifully wrapped gift at any event I am attending. I have had them do calligraphy on large number of invitations and it's always perfect and finished on time. Letter Perfect is constantly innovating and they now have a service for creating amazing online invitations. Not the run of the mill static invitations, but ones with physically active illustrations that are like watching a short movie drawing you into the invitation itself. They even offer classes on how to do gift wrapping and calligraphy and have an in house design department if their sample books don't have what you want. I'm a big fan of Blackwing pencils (if they're good enough for steinbeck...) and it's been a great spot to pick out unique gifts and cards for clients, friends, and family. What an awesome store. They have things that you couldn't find anywhere else. I found an amazing leather bound book with hand made paper for a special party I was throwing. They embossed it and did calligraphy on the first page!!! It is stunning an they were so easy to work with I was amazed it was done in time, it looks great and I was happy to support my local businesses as they have had such a hard few months from fires to mudslide. Leslie has always had a reputation for going "above and beyond" for her customers and she just took heroic measures to help me get some time-sensitive invitations into the mail! Given the struggles that Montecito is facing right now it would have been easy and understandable for my little project to have been buried in the chaos but Leslie put her own overwhelming problems aside to help a customer. It's gotta be the most difficult paper to print on that they have! But it's so gorgeous I had to have it. While they make promises, they rarely keep them. The "boss" is the only one who knows the answers and her schedule is "iffy." I questioned the type of paper to be used for my business cards. I don't use them often, and I didn't want to spend a lot of money. In spite of my request, I was guided to the most expensive card with the most expensive printing. Each card amount to more than $1 a piece and then the printing, etc costs. The add-ons were outrageous.I was promised business cards for 2 weeks. Two weeks arrived and they weren't ready. A supposed 'goof up,' which has happened to me once before at this store, but I thought I'd give them another chance. They offered to do temporary cards on thinner card. I said ok, but in the end they would have been fine, instead of the pricey cards on a cardboard type paper. The people in this store have trouble explaining themselves and it seems everyone has to ask the boss. read more

Letter Perfect is a complete and utter disaster. They are completely incompetent and blame the client for their mistakes. My fiance and I were using them for our Crane order. We were told they would receive the invitations within 6-9 business days. After the order was placed, we were told that it was in fact a week longer and that they forgot to call and check on this. The printing was bad on about 20% of the order. Because of the late arrival, we did not have time to reprint before the invites had to go out. Leslie, the owner, who had delegated our order to as many as three different people on her staff called to tell me that the mistakes were in fact our fault and not her staffs. We produced the emails to the contrary, yet she still was rude to us. She insisted on reprints even though I told her that was a waste of time and paper. Our wedding planner asked her for a refund of 20% and she wrote us a scathing e-mail about how rude we were to even suggest this. The company also sent in the wrong orders for our menus and invitations and tried to charge us for the proofs. They misspelled our names, address, and parents names. This company is rude, unprofessional and a complete headache to deal with. read more

I spent $1,318.52 for 40 wedding invitations at this store. I had the addresses done in calligraphy on 22 of the 40 invitations by the store. My assistant retrieved the invites and promptly dropped 17 out-of-state invites at the postal. She brought back the remaining, including 5 that had been stuffed and addressed at Letter Perfect. When I saw the 5, 2 of them had been incorrectly addressed. The fault lies with the store. My records of addresses given to Letter Perfect is impeccable, there were no errors on my part. Leslie at Letter Perfect suggested she give me $6.00 that's six dollars to compensate this error. Mathematically, given the cross-section of checked invites, she has a 40% failure rate. When I suggested we use this number and that she reimburse me for 7 of the 14 that went out without checking (40%) to the tune of $32.96/invite plus the 84.00 calligraphy charge, for a grand total of a $314.72 credit, she reacted insulted. It is I who am insulted. I paid $32.96 per invitation and apparently she cannot be bothered to double-check all of her work. My total was $1,318.52, I have no way of verifying the amount of mistakes that took place and her solution is to offer me a $3.50 per incident compensation. I cannot even know that she put the correct street numbers on the invites. It is possible that some of my guest will never receive their invitation. It is obvious that one who pays $1,318.52 does it to have perfect,impressive invitations. NOT invitations that say, "I have known you my whole life, but I don't know your last name!" or "Sorry Aunt Debbie, I swear you were invited, I guess the store addressed your envelope wrong." read more
