This campground is mostly dedicated to the dirt biking. The sites are small and close to others. I think mostly because everyone is out riding the trails. I do not ride a dirt bike and neither did the two small children I went with. Luckily if you're not on a bike there is plenty to explore and do with the chitlin's. Our site was next Mill Creek. We explored multiple locations to get into the water. It was freezing! Its also February so I expected it. But we got in and I even at one point fully submerged to wash my hair. At our particular site there weren't any showers but they do have bathrooms. Amongst other things we did was make the kids collect sticks for firewood, found too many pine cones to take home, touched bright green moss. The most important thing was cook under the expanse of stars. It was a great camping weekend. Theres absolutely no cell service. So you are at the mercy of the wild when here. It really forces you to be present. Im all about being present. Im not going to go another year with out camping. This one is now on the favorites list.

Good camping reservoir for kayaking…read more The camp sites are kind of hot in the summer because of the scarcity of shade trees. Bringing your own shade structures is recommended. A picnic table is located at each campsite. There are portable potties at the campsite. There are a limited number vault toilets, also. The reservoir has a lot of wildlife in the vicinity. This includes a lot of bird life, fish, and a herd of elk.

All it really needs is someone to go through and power wash it it doesn't even make a difference if certain things need painted and so forth but the power washing every few days is a no-brainer when everything is dirty or cobwebs on it. The bathrooms need to have seat covers and locking doors. It's a pretty easy fix to lock or fix a lock on a door. Other than that the management was nice even though years after covid the lady is paranoid and if you walk into the office makes you wear a mask which is really bizarre. You can't help the water is awfully green has nothing to do with the campground . Again just power wash everything would be good I will probably come back either way if I'm in the area although that would be my suggestions

The town of Chester is about 10 miles away if you need a store for something. The campgrounds are close together. Which we don't really like. Each has a fire ring and grill to cook on. Tons of wood to scrounge for a fire but you'll need a burn permit which are free and good for the entire year. Be sure to secure your food as those cute but pesky chipmunks and squirrels will help themselves. We came before the season was open and it was wonderfully quite.

It wasn't too far from the restrooms and trash either. The drinking water was just across from us and compared to a state park or national park campground, it was pretty quiet. There is a paved hiking trail to Lake Almanor just across the entrance from the South Campground. On an early morning, I took a jog with my 1-year-old while the others were still snoozing and the weather was just perfect at 8:30 AM. Although I found that even for early July, it can get a bit cold in the early morning (1 AM-8 AM) in the tent. So pack extra blankets. There are no showers here, so you will have to find them somewhere else. Overall, this is a great spot to camp if you plan to go to Mount Lassen National Park or surrounding areas. There is a lot of space for the whole family at your campsite.

We tent camped at Wright's Beach for two nights in late May. The high temperatures were around 60…read moredegrees; the low temperatures were around 50 degrees. The ground was so hard in our campsite that we were unable to stake our tent and just left it unstaked. For tent camping, you must use your rainfly because everything gets wet at night. At night, pack as much back into you car as you can to keep it dry. If you can't do that, then put things under the picnic table to keep off some of the water, fold up your camp chairs so the seats don't get as wet, and cover stuff with tarps if you can. There is a camp host selling firewood ($13/bundle or two bundles for $25) from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. There are lots of birds trying to get at your food. In the morning our vinyl tablecloth was wet and covered with muddy bird footprints. The bathrooms are the best I've seen at any campground. Individual bathrooms/stalls, fully stocked with seat liners and toilet paper (and hot water!), but no soap or towels to dry your hands. All in all, it was a fun and different camping trip. You are steps from the ocean. But, for tent campers, be prepared for cold and wet.

We just came out of a drought and it's still early in the year w/o enough rain or snowpack but DAMN I really didn't expect it to be soooooo bad! Saying that I follow the news very closely so I have heard it is Lakes Mendicino, Sonoma and Folsom are drying up fast. Along with most of our reservoirs... I cannot comment on how beautiful this lake would be when full, I can't wait to come back in a few years after this drought and see this place in its glory! I do know people are still catching fish and enjoying the beauty of nature here. We met a couple of very friendly geese and an old fisherman who lived near here and shared fishing stories as well as facts about the lake and some of the rocks I was finding... All in all it was a nice stop on our roadtrip!

I went back yesterday, and it was so worth it. I love being out hiking, basically alone with the dogs to run off leash. Across the street is another area with a bunch of trails along the river. Good to see not too much trash that the illegals always bring in, but I'm not in Ventura County anymore, and they trash that county.
