As first time home buyers, my wife and I were very fortunate to have Steve Leunes as our real estate attorney.

That's not what Debbie did, and honestly, I'm glad she didn't. She told me the hard truths right from the start. There was no sugarcoating, no false promises. She's a total straight shooter, and in a situation like this, that's exactly what I needed. It wasn't always what I wanted to hear, but it helped me make real decisions instead of living in denial. She takes the initiative without me having to chase her down or beg for updates. She's always two steps ahead, thinking about what needs to happen next. Super involved, very personal, like she actually cares about how this affects me and my life, not just another file on her desk. She got me remote court appearances when I really needed that flexibility, which made a huge difference with my schedule and stress level. And the communication? Unreal. Emails at all hours; early morning, late night, weekends. She was always prompt with her responses and never left me hanging wondering what was going on. If you want someone who will fight for you, keep it real, and actually be there when you need them, she's the one. Highly recommend.

I was served divorce papers and saw that I needed a person who is genuine and actually knows what to do for the benefit of a family. I spent a lot of time going through superlawyers, reading profiles, and AVVO and then I came across Debbie's bio. I was panicked, but when I spoke to her I knew I had found the right person, someone trustworthy and who could understand, so I retained her on the spot. In what seemed to be only a few hours, immediately my life began to change again, but now instead of more losses, the positives began to show up. She was able to secure overnights with my young children that I had missed for months! She was even able to help me graciously handle the other firm and thanks to that I was able to receive a refund (I'm told this does not happen often). The contentious divorce matters are still pending and Im certain they will work out, happy to update this review at a later time. Debbie has been able to provide a solid framework and plan for this divorce action, and has given me more certainty to move quickly and start new. Debbie has great instincts for communication and understanding and this is what you need when asking someone to fight for your rights on your behalf. I will and do recommend the services she and her team provide to anyone who's feeling angry, betrayed, lost, stuck, or even hopeless. You will come to see, "you're going to make it." It's always been about the client and their family.

I would give him a -100 if I could. 20 years ago I got married to my US citizen husband, since I…read morewas always legally in this country and was able to proof to afford my stay, the process to obtain my residence would be very easy. My husband said that Jewish lawyers are the best and we should hire one in my area. We hired Schachter and he took all my documents and asked for $4,000 which I paid. From that moment on I kept calling to follow up on the forms that should be sent to USCIS. Online I saw that the only form they filed was sent to the wrong office. Nothing else happened for 3 months. I kept calling and his assistant always said that he was too busy to take my call. After 3 months calling without getting 1 call back, that secretary hung up on me. This was the last drop for me. I sent them an email and told them that I would not accept more disrespect and delay in my case, I had all proof that I amicably tried to speak to my attorney without him being responsive. I filled a complaint in the bar association (I am surprised he can even keep his license), sued him at the civil court for my $4,000 and reached out to Telemundo, Alejandro Medina. The day that Alejandro Medina got to his office with lights and cameras ready to record about him, Schachter decided to call back at my office saying that he would like to talk with him. It was the pressure of media, not that he wanted to help or be responsible all of a sudden. He probably intended to keep my money and do nothing. He did not count on my being fully bilingual and able to go to last extent to get back my documents and money. He said he wanted a deal. I said "no deal" after over 3 months. I want my money and documents. He returned all and I ended up filing my own forms and 3 months later I had my work permit. It was not hard at all, but I just got the worst attorney possible in Jackson Heights. I hope no one else has to experience what I had to go through. It's not fair that there are people like this scamming others who are in need of getting their papers.

Furthermore, operations from other businesses occurring within the vicinity contribute to noise, interruptions, and an overall lack of confidentiality He can't even unable to find documents or deny any prior work which I previously hired but this time its different cases, I initially retained the attorney for a single, specific matter: the tenant eviction case only. During our first meeting, he required a $1,500 non-refundable deposit, which I paid in cash. He subsequently issued a 90-day notice to the tenant; however, despite my requests, he did not provide me with a copy of the notice. There were also significant administrative lapses. when I requested copies of my documents, the attorney mistakenly sent me another client's court documents. This error was neither acknowledged nor promptly corrected, raising serious concerns about the firm's record-keeping and confidentiality practices. Later, The attorney allegedly drafted four proposed contracts of my house sale; however, all four failed to proceed, and no transaction was ever completed and he withdrew in the middle and print out the bill charged every phone call, forwarding email exchange as messenger without legal advice. Regarding the real estate sale, At no time did the attorney disclose that he would be billing at a rate of $450 per hour, nor did he provide any written retainer agreement or fee explanation for real-estate-related services. Unknowingly to me, the attorney billed at this hourly rate for virtually any contact with the office--including calls made by me, calls received from the attorney, calls made by my broker, and even when the paralegal or secretary merely forwarded email messages from prospective buyers' attorneys or from me. Much of the communication from the attorney's office consisted solely of forwarding messages without analysis or legal guidance, effectively functioning as a messenger service rather than providing substantive legal advice. Communication with the attorney himself was minimal. The majority of interactions were with office staff who were not able to offer legal assistance. The attorney was frequently unavailable, often due to religious holidays or appears to be out of the country, resulting in extended periods where he could not be reached. Throughout the entire time, we had only one in-person meeting after the initial eviction retainer. Even my two brokers agreed that the attorney was largely unreachable, responded with significant delays, and did not maintain productive or professional interactions with them. There were also significant administrative lapses. On one occasion, when I requested copies of my documents, the attorney mistakenly sent me another client's court documents. This error was neither acknowledged nor promptly corrected, raising serious concerns about the firm's record-keeping and confidentiality practices. I will definitely dispute the invoice bill, which is an unreasonable amount that grossly greedy exceeds the standard fees typically associated with real estate contract work. This attorney should have known, and was required to inform me, of my right to utilize the New York State Fee Dispute Resolution Program (FDRP) for any fee dispute. In short he is greedy, expensive and did not explain agreement, very authoritative his way or highway and not friendly out of reach due to his frequent religious holidays. Not much legal advice to the client. My two broker who also had bad experience with this lawyer.
