I am writing this review based on my experience with Leupp & Woodall and their legal staff. Two years ago I got myself into a situation where I was charged with 3 misdemeanors. One of them was a 'wobbler' which could be a felony in some matters. I had never been in any trouble before this and I had no experience with the law. I asked a family member for a legal recommendation and was referred to an attorney in Sacramento. I met with him and discussed my charges and how to build my case. He had years of experience in criminal cases and claimed to be a very professional attorney. Then I found out how much it would cost to get started... $5,000. I was shocked but was scared of what might happen to me if I didn't have a good legal defense. To summarize the outcome; I ended up with 2 misdemeanors on my record and three years of probation. I was not happy with the outcome what-so-ever. It was the biggest waste of money in my life. I sought further legal defense; Leupp & Woodall who I had heard of from a friend. I quickly realized how big of a mistake I made with the other attorney. Thomas Leupp is hands down the best attorney in Northern California. A weight was lifted off my shoulders after our first meeting; I wish I would have gone to him in the first place. We were able to make things right, expunge my record, and terminate my probation sentence a year early. I would recommend hiring Thomas Leupp in any criminal matter (including DUI) if you are interested in reaching the best possible outcome in a Placer County courtroom. Due to alcholism and some poor life choices, I have required legal defense several times in my life. It was suggested to me that I obtain the best attorney in whatever County I am being prosecuted in. When I conducted a thourough survey of local friends, relatives, and business associates, the overwhelming majority recomended Thomas Leupp. In fact, Mr. Leupp was also recommended to me by my family law attorney (whom was a former president of the local bar association). It appears that to those whom are familiar with the success of local attorneys operating in the Placer / Nevada County area, Thomas Leupp is the best attorney in Placer County, and Stephen Munkelt is the best attorney operating in Nevada County. Thomas Leupp has defended me in a domestic violence case and DUI case, and both times he not only defended my case superbly, but he honestly cared about my progress with my disease and staying focussed on getting my life back on track. He honestly cares about his clients, and will advocate to the court the progress that the client is trying to make in their life (in my circumstances this was maintaining my sobriety). The staff are reliable about reminding you about court appearances and documentation. Before hiring Mr. Leupp, I had quoted retainers for my case with two other attorneys, and his fees were equivalent. On my second case I had to sell a vehicle to pay for a portion of my retainer, and Mr. Leupp worked with me while I made payments to the acount while he represented me. Mr. Leupp is an amazing man. Honest, upfront, trustworthy, and a man of integrity! In May of 2011 I got into some unseen trouble over a ridiculous matter, needless to say things got pushed way out of proportion, even leading me into 2 Felony counts a $1,000,000 Bail, and great amounts of stress, especially for my family. While I was in Jail, my family went around trying to find a good Lawyer to represent me in court, we had never gone down this road before so we were flying pretty blind. I was even listening to some of the recommendations of my friends and family members and when my parents called them, they wanted money upfront just to listen to our story and then rates went up over $10,000 for my case. One of our close family friends recommended this office, so we thought why not give it a shot. Tom actually sat down with me, and listened to everything, learned about me, my past, my family, my habits, he treated me like a person, instead of another number which is extremely hard to find these days. Like most others I never expected to end up in any kinda of legal situation in my life, I did and can not be happier that I had Tom Leupp and his staff by my side. Going in to a legal matter with little to no knowledge of our legal system was one of the more unnerving events in my life. Tom Leupp and his associates are beyond excellent. I was arrested four different times in the span of two years. My future was uncertain to say the least. From the moment I acquired Tom Leupp I began to have hope. From a distance I became acquainted with Tom Leupp when a friend of mine accidentally killed a drunk individual crossing the road. Thomas Leupp is a theif. I went to see him on a small matter that I feared I would be prosecuted for. Mr. Leupp frightened me into giving him a sizable retainer fee to handle the matter. However, the matter was never charged. Mr. Leupp never did any actual work for me, and all of my phone calls to him went unanswered.
