I have been a member on and off throughout covid. Unfortunately, illness and two job losses over the pandemic again this year created grave financial difficulties for me. Earlier this year, despite being fully vaccinated, I got COVID and was bedridden for a month, then subsequently terminated from my job while out sick (illegal, yes). I called Level in Jan and was told my membership would be on hold. I made the mistake of not asking for confirmation of that. I went in last week after realizing they were still trying to charge my card. The emails were going to my spam folder, so I never saw them. I spoke to a guy named Jon, fully expecting to pay a fee, assuming there was a miscommunication. Jon told me he would be happy to cancel the previous membership and restart a new one. I almost started crying after six months of dealing with illness and job loss (I went three months with ZERO income). I was looking forward to getting my health in order. I showed up Monday, ready to work out, only to have Jon tell me that I was banned from the club, didn't meet their criteria, and that they "cater to a wealthier clientele." I was unbelievably embarrassed, devastated, and went home crying. I immediately emailed the manager and never got a response. I went on Nextdoor and put up a post looking for other gyms and mentioned the interaction that I had. As I was leaving my house to go to a doctors appt, Jon called and stated I dropped my debit card in their parking lot, I headed over to pick it up. Once there, he asked to speak to me privately and mentioned the ND post. He then stated they would give me one chance if I took it down. I was shocked, I would never feel comfortable coming here again, I told him. Two days later, the manager, Kevin, got a ND account for the sole purpose of publicly shaming me by responding to my post. At that time, he also violated the Fair Debt Collections Privacy Act, which states, "state consumer protection laws, found in the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). Debt collection is a private matter between the parties. Do not publish a debtor's name on a "blacklist" or other public posting", by stating that I owed them "$1200". They never once called me, emailed me, or made any attempt to alert me to the fact that payment wasn't going through. This is THIER FAULT, not mine. When clients don't pay me, I call them. I also informed them months ago I was ill and was told my account was "on hold." It is absolutely EGREGIOUS for a business to shame someone again and again and then to do so publicly and violate consumer protection laws by posting how much they claim is owed to them. It is nothing short of defamation of character. While this is a wealthier area, and most people around here make considerably more than me, I am masters level degree holder and currently work in mental health. Like teachers, we aren't wealthy. I'm also a single parent who works multiple jobs to make emds meet. This gym charges considerably more and offers much less, but the close proximity to my home meant I could actually go more often. Kevin accused me of bullying them, yet they have the power. They are a business with powerful clientele. I am quite literally the lowest income earner in Cabin John; mobile mental health crisis workers don't make a ton of money. The manager could have simply emailed me privately. Instead, he publicly shamed me. That is absolutely appalling behavior. The entire interaction, including my post, is here. I am digusted that a business would violate my privacy, publicly humiliate me, and defame my character. No, I'm not a wealthier Cabin John resident, but I deserve dignity and respect and most certainly not to have my name publicly smeared in direct violation of my rights. read more

Beautiful facility with amazing staff. Andrea is amazing! I had a few wonderful 1:1 Pilates sessions with her. She is wonderfully knowledgeable, and she is great at communicating cues to me as a beginner. I could not say enough great things about her teaching style! She's very attentive, and I felt like I learned a lot in our one hour together. She is the reason I am returning for more sessions! Also, the Pilates studio is peaceful and has many different pieces of equipment and machines. The main gym is clean, and the front desk staff are friendly. A wonderful place in every way! read more

Really nice, friendly staff. Very bright and pleasant environment. There is a good range of exercise and weightlifting equipment. The facilities are clean and well kept up. It's a "small town" gym where you can do your own thing, work with a trainer, or take classes. You'll feel comfortable regardless of your age or fitness level. read more

This place is pretty posh looking for a gym, but the space is small. So, they have general workout equipment squished together in the same building with their store and lockers, and a couple bathrooms. They also have separate studios for fitness classes, including cycling/ spinning and yoga/ pilates/ fitness. For a small operation, this place packs in a lot of options. Although I also only went here for a fitness deal over about a half-dozen classes, I was happy with the offerings. The classes allow people of all fitness levels to be at any class. You can scale up or down, and everyone is friendly and supportive. Most of the folks here at the classes seem to be older and more mature, but still, they are committed to be fit, so that's cool! Level Fitness is clean and well-oiled as a fitness operation. I like them a lot, but, they are kind of far from DC proper for me to attend regularly. If you live nearby and can afford their regular membership, this place is pretty good for your regular and traditional workout needs and classes! read more

I signed up for this gym early on when it was still quite new and not so well-known, and it was great: very intimate and cozy, well-kept machines and facilities nice and clean. It's very small though so as more members signed up it began to get a bit crowded and not quite as enjoyable as people were literally almost in top of each other. So I finally quit but then hubby joined so I guess it's a wash! read more

Nicely equipped, upscale but warm place for workouts, in a converted house with attractive decor. You can work out on your own or with one of their trainers (for an extra fee). You won't feel out of place no matter what your age or fitness level, which, in the sometimes snobby DC suburbs, is a welcome relief. The place is open, sunny, clean, and contemporary but inviting, with polished wood floors, and private bathroom/shower rooms lined with stone, and heated floors. I prefer to do my own workout (cardio and weights), so I've never taken classes here. It's rare for the main equipment area to be crowded, and I very rarely have any problem getting on whatever piece of equipment I want. All of the cardio equipment (treadmills, stationary bikes, ellipticals) have their own flat-screen TVs. As a woman with, er, vertical challenges (I'm short), I've always preferred the much more adjustable Cybex line of weight machines, and that's what they offer here (the main reason I joined). Pilates is offered in group-class floor format, and you can also have a trainer put you through your Pilates paces in a sweet separate studio with all of the torture devices you love. One of my favorite aspects of Level is the quiet, upstairs "loft" area where I can stretch (and do my struggling crunches) without feeling like I'm on display. Four stars instead of five because of the hours (I'd prefer longer weekend hours -- they close at 6pm on Saturdays and Sundays), and because they've been a little difficult to deal with when I've had to put my membership on hold and then reactivate (three times over the eight years I've been a member) -- they always solved the problem, but it needs to be smoother and more consistent. read more

Very clean and well maintained. Friendly staff and trainers. The only drawback to Level is that it is a small fitness club so they don't have as much variety in the types and timing of classes. However, the advantage of a small club is that the classes are seldom crowded which makes for a much more enjoyable experience. read more

This place is perfectly located to attract people living in Potomac. Unfortunately, the management/owners let it slip (and lost many of its members) to the point it probably can't turn itself around -- too bad really. I gave up on the place and joined another facility. read more

I have taken 6 classes at Level, using a special deal offered online, and have been very impressed with the quality of the instructors and the comfort of the facilities. The "mobile cycle" studio, in a trailer, is a bit weird, but the cycles are unlike any other I have seen. They wobble just like a bike outdoors. It was hard to manage at first, and after 2 classes, I like it. The BARRE class is a fast-paced challenge, as is Total Body Conditioning, which, with 4 students at the time, was more like a TRX training group that costs a lot at other gyms. No extra charge here. I love the 9 minute drive and parking right outside the door. Nice gym. read more
