Foundry Fitness - Trainers Near Me - Gaithersburg, Maryland

I started here a month ago and I'm so happy I finally convinced myself to try it. The coaches make the workouts fun yet challenging for everyone, no matter what their fitness level. How they modify the exercises for ALL members is the best part. For me, they give me suggestions to make them more challenging. For others, they'll have them lower the weights and do lower impact exercises to accommodate injuries and level of experience. Every workout is different, which keeps things interesting. The program is motivating and I can honestly say I get in just as good of a workout in 45 minutes here as I would in 1.5 hours on my own in a weight room. It's fast paced, but doable for everyone. The space itself is organized and clean. The members I've met are all friendly and the coaches are encouraging. This isn't an in-your-face bootcamp style gym. No intimidation tactics here! I can't recommend Foundry Fitness enough to anyone who wants to change up their boring, old workout routine or needs an extra kick in the butt. read more

I came to Foundry Fitness on a Tuesday evening with a friend, first class is free so I wanted to give it a try :) Foundry Fitness is also on Classpass if anyone does not want to commit to a membership. There is lots and lots of parking available, a few spots right in front of the studio... but two nearby parking lots less than a 2 minute walk from the studio. When you enter the studio, there are several screens lined up against the wall for you to checkin. The class I attended was at 520pm, right after work, so it was superrrr packed. The studio isn't huge so a class of 20+ people felt a little tight. The instructor was Simon, he had a workout setup for different sets of weight exercises with some cardio in between. For example, 50 kettlebell swings, cardio, 50 kettlebell curls, cardio, 50 dumbbell front arm lifts, cardio.... etc. etc. so you have an idea of the workout. After the main workout, there were some core exercises. I liked the class overall, the instructions were clearly on multiple screens so you could go at your own pace without feeling pressured to keep up with the class... plus with such a large class it was great to do individual workouts without having the pressure of someone wait for a station or use equipment. Simon would walk around and provide guidance during class, he wasn't pushy which I appreciated, just informative :) Overall I liked the class and would definitely recommend this studio to others :) read more

I've been here a handful of times now and prefer these workout class structures over others I've taken in the area for several reasons: 1) the workouts are efficient and you feel like you've done in a lot in an hour, 2) the workouts involve a lot of reps but are a mix of simple weight training / cardio exercises that everyone can do, 3) the instructors that I've had (Eric and Simon) are both helpful and keep the class running smoothly, and 4) above all else, I like that they are on Classpass so that you can drop in whenever is convenient! Unlike a lot of studios, there are many class times to choose from, and even if the turnout is high and space is small, the class structure works so that it minimizes the feeling of people stepping over each other. There is plenty of parking in Kentlands - the big lot in front of Michaels/Pet Smart is the easiest to walk over from. First class is free for everyone so definitely check this place out! read more

Looking for a more cardio based workout I gave this place a shot. My mom and brother had started to come here after being avid Crossfit goers for more than 3 years... they decided to change up the pace and become members at Foundry. Being satisfied with their results it became the only thing, my mother, talked about. It took one class with Cherine, drenched in sweat, to realize I wanted more. I couldn't even dry my face with my own shirt. Talk about sweat dripping down my face! (And everywhere else to say the least) Is that gross? Whatever. My advice is to bring a towel. Being a Crossfit enthusiast I never saw myself looking for something else to keep me going but I ended up loving these workouts too. So! I go to both. 2/3x a week I'll go to Crossfit. And 2/3x a week I'll go to Foundry. I love the combination bc it gives me the epic cardio I needed to shred the fat. I'm the type of person who loves group classes since it pushes me harder to keep going. Call me competitive, I'm fine with that! Totally a friendly environment and the trainers make sure to keep us moving, even if it's at our own pace. Over all my experience with the trainers and the workouts have been great. Every trainer has a great personality and just want to help you be a better you. Also if you're doing something wrong they don't mind correcting your form to create the extra burn. I came here pre-covid and wanted to catch up on my reviews. I won a free month from social media so I was able to check Foundry out. I enjoyed Foundry Fitness a lot! The instructors were nice and actually watch your form and the members there were also friendly. It is a small place though, but they definitely make it work. Just over a year ago, I decided to 'breakup' with my previous gym of over 4 years, and shake things up a bit. I couldn't be happier with the decision! Not only have a I gained more muscle, strength and muscular endurance, I've also found a place where I can feel more confident in my body and less focused on losing weight. When you walk in to FF, there are no posters emphasizing lean, tight, ripped bodies. You're surrounded by folks of all different shapes, sizes, ages, and abilities. There's no push to burn more calories or 'get that beach body'. The general theme is: functional fitness, correcting form, and gaining strength. I also love having a very consistent core staff of trainers! I feel like this lends itself to a better experience in the gym. Seeing the same coach regularly means they know what you are capable of, what injuries or limitations you may have, and know when to push you and when to give you a break. You'll find it's a warm and welcoming group and environment. You may find yourself going to class just to catch up with the people you enjoy seeing and chatting with before and after class, of course...not during;) As for the workout itself, it's challenging and I love it! read more

i checked out this gym while in town visiting my parents and i will say that this was a BUTT-KICKING WORKOUT! i'd read the yelp reviews about the trainers mixing up the workouts on a daily basis so you never knew what to expect. on the day i visited, i introduced myself, signed a brief waiver, and was instructed to join the class. we had a brief cardio warmup consisting of high knees, butt kickers, and a couple of laps around the building and parking lot. we were then asked to complete the following: +300 squat jumps +200 pushups +100 chin ups +30 reverse wall walks +50 crab walks we could complete the workout any way we wanted, as long as we hit all of the numbers. i was able to complete everything except for the last 40 crab walks, but i was quite proud of myself considering it was my very first time there. the last 10-15 minutes of class were devoted to abdominal exercises and stretching. i really enjoyed the variety of exercises and my muscles certainly felt the workout immediately after and especially the day after. my only minor critique is that i didn't get much attention from the instructor, partially due to the fact that the class was split between the upstairs and downstairs studios. but otherwise, i had a great time and certainly torched a ton of calories before the family holiday meals commenced! read more

It's now been 3 months and I'm loving it here. Officially addicted! Good thing to be addicted to! Fitness and feeling great before I turn 40. In better shape now than I was a year ago. The reason I decided to go here was because my last physical, the doctor told me I gained 8 lbs since the year prior. Doesn't sound like a lot but it was to me, especially how I gained it by eating unhealthy and barely exercising. First month at Foundry, I slowly got in the groove after getting over the initial 2 week hump. I swear I was hating to have to face another Foundry workout. My wife pushed me to go and I thank her for that! By weighing in each month you see results and become even more motivated to go more frequently. I then upped my workout frequency to 3 days a week in month 2, and now 4-5 days a week in month 3! I have lost a total of 13 pounds in 3 months while gaining muscle and feeling more energized. I eat healthier now and watch my portions and drink less alcohol. You get the total body workout experience here and Eric, Pierre and whoever is there really puts up a great variety of exercises each day. Totally different each day and maximizing results so you don't plateau. Awesome place, great trainers and good environment to get healthy and fit! Wow - went to a free class last night. Loved it - hated it, just what you would expect for someone who has not worked out at all in 3 years! I have a love hate relationship here. Love the way I feel... After class. I get my butt kicked so hard here. The trainers are fantastic despite me mentally cursing them during class, they challenge you with a mix of cardio, weights and core. They focus on form and push you to try harder. The classes are always different every time I go. They are no joke, tough but every class has a range of students from different fitness levels so don't be intimidated! Everyone has to start out somewhere. If anything, modify the moves to suit your own abilities if you're unable to do them. I personally haven't had and issues but if anyone feels discomfort (besides full body soreness of course) just let them know. The trainers will help you modify some of the moves to relieve pain and tension on your joints. They are all very friendly. Seriously don't be intimidated! I know I was but after the first class, I wanted more! It seriously is a terrific workout. read more

Holy cow, the reviews don't lie!!! I went in for my first free workout to try out Foundry and 2 days later I'm still aching from how hard we worked.. (Although my first class was a muscle endurance class so it was tough..) Eric was so great at keeping everyone super motivated and positive; I've had horrible experiences with trainers in the past who give up on you before you do.. This was a complete 360 for me, I've never worked with a trainer who works in a class setting yet still is able to focus on each person.. The best part about all this was instead of allowing you to reach fail, Eric gave other options for the workout if you felt yourself getting tired so you would keep going. Foundry Fitness is the best gym I have ever been a part of...I truly feel like the trainers and the "regulars" are family! It's a great place and you get way more than you pay for every month! $89/month for unlimited classes...that's unheard of! 1-hour of high intensity exercise. Every time you go it's a different workout. Why pay for personal training, when Foundry is available? You can always ask the trainers questions, ask for modifications, and it's all at your own pace. NOTE: The class is hard, especially if you're not used to working out, but if you want to push yourself and get REAL results that is what you have to do! The first time I went I almost passed out and had to lie down on one of the benches (FYI, after being a member for over a year now, I'm the only person that I've seen do this so far...), but after pushing myself to go for a few months, I got weirdly hooked. I go about 3-4 times a week and have seen MAJOR changes, not only in how I fit my clothes, but also my overall attitude in life. Now my husband encourages me to go because he says I'm in a better mood when I get back...lol. So far I have lost over 20lbs and gained some serious muscles! I just started going to FF a few weeks ago. It is an incredibly challenging workout and I must admit I felt like a loser (out of shape) for a few classes. However, all of the trainers are encouraging and the class is composed of people of all levels of fitness and different ages. It's very welcoming and I encourage everyone to try it. Signing up for Foundry Fitness has been one of the best decisions of my life. I have lost a little over 40 pounds in just four months thanks to the very experienced trainers and encouraging classmates. Not only did I lose weight and gain muscles here at Foundry, I have acquired more confidence in myself and have become more driven in the other activities I am involved in. Eric, the owner, has assembled a fantastic group of dedicated friendly trainers who are all equally excited to see everyone improve. Each one of them checks every participant for good form to prevent injuries while encouraging everyone to push harder to make the most out of their workout. Currently there are a total of 38 classes throughout the week, each class running around 1 hour daily, some starting 6am and the last ending at 8pm to accommodate anyone's schedule, which leaves absolutely no excuse for anyone to skip! What I like most about the classes is that each class is always unique and that they contain a combination of weights and cardio exercises. It all depends on what you want from the workout. For example if you want to work on your cardio you can use lighter weights and keep up the routine taking fewer breaks. If you want to only work on weights, you can use heavier weights and go at a slower pace. Because everyone's fitness level is different, the routines are designed to be manageable for beginners and can be strenuous even for the very fit. You simply go at your own pace. For example a routine requires a set number of reps for one particular exercise. A beginner may try their best to reach half the amount of reps while the veterans may push to do more than is required. The goal for everyone is to complete each exercise routine and eventually complete it using either heavier weights or do more reps in the given amount of time. As my fellow participants have stated below, everyone is in this together. Both beginners and advance athletes will have a great workout doing the same exercise routine and will bond over experiencing similar pains while mastering old exercises and learning new ones. It has been a remarkable 4 months since joining Foundry. I am excited to see where my physical and mental state will be in the coming months! This place is amazing...I'm in the best shape of my life...in great cardio shape and I am a lot more stronger than I have even been! All the trainers are great especially Piere and are always eager to help. I usually go to the afternoon classes with Piere and Brittany. Both are amazing and I'm always sore and I've been going for 3 months. I like how all the trainers are different and can switch it up all the time. It's always a new workout each time. Quick workout that gets results. I'm always sore but it's a good sore.This place is great for beginners or someone who's already in shape. I heard about Foundry from a coworker after I had returned home for the summer after my first year away at college. The freshman 15 hit me hard and I was desperate for a change. The Foundry fam welcomed me with open arms and after a few classes I felt totally in my element. 3 months of summer had flew by, I lost 15 pounds and gained a whole lot of confidence. Eric (the owner) and all the trainers are seriously committed to you and treat your goals as their own. The vibe in the classes is more positive then any other gym I've been too, and I got the best results I've ever gotten from any gym here-- even the VERY popular HIIT gym I work out at back at school (which is also in the same complex in the kentlands.) I was so so sad to leave Foundry but I am excited to say I will be returning this summer since I have an internship in the area!! can't wait to lose another 15! 100% recommend this gym if you're serious about losing weight and don't want to feel like you're apart of a family instead of a corporate run money making machine. read more

Best workout ever. Use to go to crossfit, and took some time (6 months) off to watch a foster kid. Once that was over, it was time to get back into shape. Read the reviews on here, and decided to give it a try. It's rough -- but it's like watching a workout video that's more advanced than you are (presently). You do what you're able and try to keep up. Eventually it gets easier. ...Not that I'm there yet. Been going for 5 or 6 weeks now, and It keeps kicking my butt every time I go in. In relation to crossfit, it's like the WOD portion of crossfit, only 50 minutes long, with a lot of cardio thrown in. For me, it's much more intense (which is a plus). I couldn't be happier with my workouts here. In the time I've been here (in combination with 2-3 2k swims per week) I've lost almost 10 pounds, while managing to put on noticeable muscle. I'm not where I ultimately want to be, but I'm stronger than I was last month, and I'm confident I'll be stronger next month... read more

I've tried several group fitness gyms such as Orange Theory, Soldierfit, F45, Gold Gym's boot camp classes, etc. Foundry Fitness is by far my favorite place to workout! Every single time I leave a class, I am drenched in sweat and I always leave in a such a great mood. The trainers and other members are always pleasant and encouraging. I love that the workouts are structured and planned out ahead of time so there is no time wasted while the trainer is trying to plan a workout on the spot. Each month they send members an agenda of what muscle groups will be worked on each day for the next four weeks. Basically their goal is to focus on two separate muscle groups each day and they also make sure to include cardio. This allows our bodies to focus on those two muscle groups rather than being sporadic like how they do in other boot camp classes. I LOVE the music they play during class, it's very upbeat and motivating. The trainers are highly experienced and they make it an effort to know everyone's name. It's nice to hear them call your name out to help motivate you when you're starting to get fatigued. They also make sure to observe everyone during the workout to ensure that they're in the proper format. I would highly recommend this fitness gym! read more

I LOVE foundry fitness and I guarantee everyone else who goes feels the same. You immediately bond with the other members, as you're all in the same boat (despite your physical shape) and the trainers are amazing! Each class is something new, so you're basically always sore, but it works. Everyone always asks what kind of fitness classes they are and honestly I'm not sure the best way to describe them but it's like body pump and cross fit mixed with some cardio and core- seriously a full body work out. I went for the first time last month. There were stations set up and we were given 5 minutes at each station to do the exercises. It was intense-in a good way. Since I was new, I relied on other people and the instructor for guidance and modifications. They were really helpful throughout! I was definitely tested to the limit during my 50 minutes there and was sore for a couple days afterward. I would definitely come back and try more classes! read more

A challenging workout with a friendly atmosphere. I've been going to orange theory for 3 years and needed more of a challenge. From the first class my body has done exercises that I didn't know I could do. From rope slams, pull ups, tire flipping, etc I definitely have gotten stronger and more fit. I like how each day has a dedicated body part so you know what you are focusing on that day. It also includes cardio bursts and an ab segment which I like. I joined Foundry 8.5 weeks ago, and can confidently say that I make great decisions. This is only partially true, as I've wasted my youth eating kitkat bars, smoking hookahs and drinking. One morning I woke up finally acknowledging the tightness in my lungs, and rattles when I breathe. I thought maybe I don't want to die tomorrow so I decided to do away with some of the bad habits and join a gym. I hate running, because it's boring. I learned this while trying out treadmills at Eppley UMD. I also tried ellipticals and stationary bikes, all of which suck just the same. Running outside is nice, but if you're as easily distracted as I am, every tree, playground, fence, every dog looks like a chair, and becomes one. Needless to say, self training didn't work for me. I didn't want to dwell in my failure, so I turned to google, and came upon Foundry. I tried out a free class, and died. The post-workout soreness lasted 3 days and for a moment in time I was scared of fitness. But after I subjected myself to 2 more weeks of useless "self-training", I realized it was best to jump right into it. Eric, founder of Foundry Fitness, kindly allowed me another free class, which killed me a second time. So I joined and I've been going 4-5x a week ever since. I still get nervous on my way to each class because I know I'm going to be breathing like a cow for the next hour. But I also leave every class feeling like a Jedi. In the 2 months that I've committed to Foundry, I feel totally anew, and as if I've reversed any lung or liver damage (not scientifically proven). And to my surprise I lost 9lbs, my weight has not changed in the past 10 years. Although I've doubled my protein intake, my diet had stayed relatively the same. It's worth noting that I have at least 2 kitkat bars a day, averages to 3 a day really- I am not proud of this. In hindsight, I can't imagine how much more I could have accomplished had I fixed my eating habits. If you're trying to look physically better, no need to look further. Losing weight is the easiest part of foundry. If you want to show your heart and lungs some love, foundry's tough love is it. Unfortunately for everyone else, I exhibit anti-social behavior; I walk in, do the work-out and leave. Sometimes I manage to utter, not a single word throughout the entire work-out. Despite this, everyone has only been so kind, friendly, encouraging and helpful. I've started to appreciate each peer. And all of the trainers are amazing. They prepare a unique workout everyday (THIS is so important, because my ADHD brain cannot handle repeat workouts). They call you out on bad-form, answer all of your questions, expect more for you, and motivate you. They are mentors I didn't know I needed until they were there. I couldn't ask for better. Foundry provides you with the workout regimen you need to reach your goal, whatever it may be, but its up to you to make it happen. The workouts aren't easy, but more importantly, not impossible. This is by far the BEST gym that I have ever been to. As someone who is very much out of shape, I was very hesitant to try it at first because I felt I would slow down the class or that I would not be able to do any of the workouts. After doing a lot of research online, I attended a class for free and I saw how engaging Eric was with all of his members. He came to make sure that my form was good for all of the workouts and he gave me a lot of good tips on to build up to a good fitness level and to take things slow at first. After I joined, all the positive experiences only got better. Here are some examples of those positive experiences I had: - Lost about 11 pounds, despite not being consistent at all. - Every workout was a challenge but they were a lot of fun and properly structured. I can barely do 5 minutes of cardio without being bored to death but here, the hour long workouts went by so fast. - Every trainer was friendly, knowledgeable, and gave tons of attention to everyone in class. - I went 5 times a week for a few weeks and was really on top of the workouts, however, I was not on top of my nutrition, so one of the workouts, I was REALLY out of it. My performance became terrible and there were a coupe of times I felt like I was going to pass out. Brittany noticed it instantly, kept checking on me the whole class and she came to me after class to tell me that she noticed I was coming very frequently and that she could tell my body needed a couple days to rest. I took her advice and had one of the best work outs after taking a few days off. So all in all, I 1000% recommend this Foundry Fitness. Unfortunately, I moved away from the area so my only regret is that I didn't fully commit as I should have when I was a member. As I am trying to get back to working out again, I am strongly contemplating rejoining this place despite a 30 minute drive each way. read more

I am going to be an outlier here. I will say the staff were professional and responsive and the space is clean. I went for a intro personal training session and the workout really wrenched my neck and back. The day after I was more than sore; I was in pain. My free workout has led to a: 100 dollar massage 1 month of physical therapy 1 MRI which I don't know the results of yet My left arm is feeling numb I don't want to put everyone off the gym. However, make sure you watch your back and neck during any exercise there. read more

This gym is amazing! The owner, Eric, has put together an amazing team of trainers. I must admit, I was hesitant before my first class because it had been over a year since the last time I did any cardio or much weight training. I came in to find people of all shapes, sizes, and ages doing the same workout together. The trainers and members are all VERY supportive of each other and even helped me push through when I wanted to stop. And if any workout is too difficult for you for whatever reason (bad knees, injury, whatever) they help you modify the workout, so you can keep going! I've seen the transformations on the wall and noticed that each class, I get a little stronger and less winded. I can't wait to see what results I get after a few more months. I love this place. The transformation I've seen in my body shape and my strength is incredible. It's like personal training in a group atmosphere. Don't wait to "lose weight" to start, there are all shapes and sizes of people there and we know we are all in it together! Foundry Fitness is a great place to workout and get in shape. The format Eric uses allows people in great shape to workout with people who are getting into shape thus they are inspiring each other and yet never leaving anyone behind. In three months, I've yet to do the same workout. After three months, I now have the strongest core I've had in years (possibly ever). My son and wife also workout here. I played sports in high school but was never by any means athletic or muscular. I used to get into phases of going to a gym and doing cardio on a stairmaster and then leaving, never even sweating. I always stopped going because I was bored, saw little results and didn't feel like I was pushing myself. Foundry Fitness has been the complete opposite. I have seen a change in my mind and body. I wake up excited for each class and the new exercises we will do that day. Keep in mind, I used to never want to get out of bed! I can't say enough great things about Foundry Fitness! I am 4'11 and have always had to watch my diet and exercise. After years of aimlessly walking around gyms and seeing minimal results, I finally found a gym and class model that I can stick with! I've lost 26lbs since October (7 months) and am in the best shape of my life. But, more importantly, I had a blast doing it! The classes and personal training sessions are dynamic and constantly changing to challenge both beginner and advanced members. Eric, Tungi, Cherine and all of the trainers are fantastic. They keep you motivated and push you to your physical limits. Best of all, is the family dynamic. This is not the type of gym where you put on headphones, ignore everyone else around you, and crank out 30 minutes on an elliptical. I've been going to FF for almost 2 years now. I've never been this consistent with any gym or home work out. EVER. It's because the trainers are great. They do their homework to bring varied and creative workouts that keep you engaged and challenged each day. They make it fun and you see results. I'm 46 and the fittest I've ever been. I highly recommend to anyone looking to build a strong, healthy body and wants to have fun along the way. FYI. I'm in the same classes with teenagers and 60+ year olds.
