I've complained numerous times only to get empty apologies and promises they would do better. They haven't. Today I spent 12 minutes of the first 30 trying to find weights which I could not. On top of all the complaints they actually have the nerve to charge me the annual fee which is for upgrades to the gym. How about you use that money and buy a mop and hire someone to clean and put weights away? The other thing is that the workers have a habit of arriving late while people are waiting outside. I had to add a star bc they don't let you leave no stars.

All machines were taken and most of them already had someone in line. Not to mention some people go with their tripods shooting videos and taking up a lot of room. The reason I'm giving 1 star (and not zero) is because this location has a pool, jacuzzi and sauna but you can expect them all to be packed. Also, they have cancelled many classes and currently there's only one weeknight cycling class on Thursdays which is ridiculous for those who enjoy spinning. There are some weekend classes but they should offer at least one or two more during weeknights. This is a relatively new gym and they should have planned it better with more machines and a better layout. If you're planning on joining this gym for lifting weights or using their machines do a free trial before you join and just ignore the pushy salespeople.

I am now done 5 classes so i can fully give an honest review:…read more How I found out about this place was at a community event and I got to try to rowing machine. First day of class was with Neil, very welcoming and listened to all of my concerns as I had a HORRIBLE experience at Club Pilates in Bayonne. He assured me he would watch me carefully and if at anytime i can ask questions. so going in to class we had a warmup... not too bad took about 10 mins to explain each station while showing a demo of how each station works (btw every week is a different set of stations AND pace of said class will go into further detail) okay jumping into it.... did squats (OUCH) i never did well with squats and man i was crying.... being that i am in no shape whatsoever i took a lot of breaks in between reps to catch my breath and all. Neil gave me a few pointers which I thought was great being that I haven't workouts in a while... I am asthmatic and again let me stress i have not worked out since the BS at CP so i left the class and sat down because my legs were in shock.. Neil came out to check on me frequently. Again HIGHLY appreciated of that as that shows the care a manager/owner SHOULD DO! (no i am not being nice to CP) so once the class was over i felt that it was a bit fast pace and I wasn't truly sure I was ready to commit so he gave me an additional free class (strength) to try out. I went back one week later to do the strength class. this one is indeed slower BUT as they say no pain no gain... the reps are more and or on the controlling side where the other classes is cardio, getting your heart rate up for the burn... i took less breaks with the strength but i also step outside to take it easy as this is still very much new to me. the coach for strength was Neil's sister Celine (family own) now the weekend classes changed from the normal 5 stations to 7 stations so I took the challenge and took a weekend class (that Wednesday I had made the commitment to join the pack) Sunday class was with coach Devon and she (Sorry Neil) is the absolute best coach i have had so far... her attention to your form and her pointers to do your best and just overall energy and good vibe made the Sunday class the best i ever had! My main focus is getting healthy, but making friends along the way would be cool... and i think and maybe hopefully i'll make a friend... i really like this place and did i mention there's two showers here??? they also have a recovery room but you have to pay extra for that (boo!) the gym is located at the old bayonne theater that has since been renovated to a multi office building. it is new and clean so yea i really like it here.. I hope this is detailed and it would help those who are also trying to be healthy but feel lost if they have ever been to a gym or if they had a bad experience at a boutique gym... not sure where alpha fit club falls but again i like it here and i hope they will continue to support me and others be well ohhhh i have to say i just had my class with Jon and one feedback i would say is that he lets us do our own warmups... which is okay i prefer to be instructed. nevertheless his positivity and high energy made his class also very enjoyable. tho my arms begs to differ as its been so sore... but in a good way!

The gym is on the second floor. Entrance is the door with a sign Optum above it. Gym: the gym was huge, equip with proper and functional gym equipments. You can see it is well maintained and everything seems to be cleaned regularly. There are lockers and showers too. And recovery room as well where you can use massage chairs, normatec leg compressions. Classes: well it was my first time and I felt amazing afterwards. They have 6 stations that you follow and each stations has different equipments and things to follow. There is a screen that shows you the training and rep to follow. Employees: Jon was amazing as a trainer/coach. He helped me all through out. Sasha the front desk is so kind. And lastly Bommer the dog is the star of the gym! I have recently joined Retro Fitness Bayonne with the Ultimate membership and I am overall…read moresatisfied with the Bayonne location. However, my experience with the Jersey City/Twin City location hasn't been very pleasant. First, let's go with the pros. Staff, similar to the Bayonne location, is friendly. Also, there's free parking since this gym is located near other stores and there's a big parking lot so even during peak hours you can find parking. The gym isn't big but it has decent equipment and the percentage of broken machines is small which is good. It does get crowded after 5pm but that's the case with the gyms in the area. Gym is clean, including the bathrooms which is good. The annoyance of people leaving stuff in the lockers without a pad lock is present so if you go during busy hours get ready to open at least 10 lockers until you find an empty one. Once again, this is a problem at other locations, I hope there was someone to check this and enforce the rules so that people can start locking their stuff. Now the cons. I live 2 blocks away from a Planet Fitness location but the main reason I joined Retro Fitness is because of the group classes. My wife takes Zumba and Body Combat and I take Spin classes. The Twin City location only offers Spin classes 3 days a week at 6pm and if the instructor is off by any chance there is no coverage. I took a Spin class for the first time yesterday and although the instructor was friendly, the class was very bad. It wasn't a true spin class. Lots of push ups on the handlebar and the exercises were all over the place. The worst thing in my opinion was when everyone was supposed to pedal backwards. I'm a experienced cyclist and I've been taking hundreds of Spin classes for the past 20 years and I've never seen such a thing. Pedal backwards? Also, this location doesn't update the website/app so according to their site there are Spin classes 6 days a week including Friday and Saturday which isn't true. Also, there are no Zumba classes on Saturdays although they are listed on their website. I'm disappointed because that was one of the reasons I joined Retro Fitness. If you want to know the correct schedule you need to call them every day or go there in person and check the board they have near the front desk. For now I will stick with the Bayonne location. If the twin city location find better instructors or adds more Spin classes I will update my review.

Good gym to go to. Not as big or fancy as the other gyms in the area but it gets the job done…read more Staff is friendly and they do an ok keeping it clean. Spray and paper towels are easy to find for the most part. Its a bit on the small side so when its busy you may have to wait a while for a machine. Atmosphere is ok, not full of meatheads. Located on Broadway, which is a super busy street, and all metered parking so make sure you come early to find a spot. Walking in for the first time was really intimating but everyone was very nice and welcoming. I explained it was my first time and they showed me the ropes and encouraged me to do better. I've taken classes with Juliana, Mallory and Marion and BOY, they were tough! I've never been more sore than after a class here, it definitely makes you work for sure. There are classes throughout the day, starting at 530A through the evening, which is beneficially for working people. Definitely worth the experience, will come back for more classes soon!

But don't be intimidated by that, they super encourage you to go at your own pace and modify if you have to (i.e. instead of doing laps around the gym, march in place between the bags!) The class also motivates each other. It truly is a great community that I'm so glad to be a part of. (I've personally been a member for probably 10 years or so at this point.) Also Juliana is the best, I almost exclusively take her classes. You see results so quickly too. They've recently included the use of heavy weights in class, which is my absolute favorite. Joining will be the best decision you'll ever make. Don't let fear or nerves stop you!
