This local library is truly one of the gems of the community. From the moment you step inside, there's a calm, welcoming energy that makes you want to stay awhile. The space is bright, organized, and thoughtfully designed and every section feels purposeful, from the cozy reading nooks to the tech-friendly study tables. One thing that I find here that is truly awesome is their bookstore. For me, I've bought several books here that I used for scraping in my travels and I absolutely love coming here to buy books for cheap that I will just end up scrapping. You'll find most books are no more than one dollar and amongst all the local public library bookstores that are offered, I have found this one, the largest and the cheap cheapest. Love it! Just be mindful, they only accept cash when making payments. In addition, you can print things out, but you will have to pay using cash only. The library also offers great programs with creative workshops that make it more than just a place for books, but a true community hub. You can find a monthly calendar located inside of different events that are ongoing. Parking can be very hard here when busy. I haven't figured out why they haven't opened the parking structure that's adjacent to it. It's been sitting empty for a months now. I always dread when I'm gonna be going to the library because parking is very hard here so just be prepared spaces are limited. It's one of those rare places where you can slow down, think clearly, and leave feeling just a little bit better than when you walked in. Bathrooms super clean! read more

Summer slide? Not here! The San Bernardino County Library's summer reading program made all the difference for my son. Not only did he avoid the dreaded summer slide...he actually grew in his reading level! At the end of kindergarten his AR score was 2.9, and now, starting first grade, he's already at 4.3!! The Fontana Library makes it so easy to stay on track and engaged. Books in the children's section have the AR number right on the spine, so my son can confidently pick books that are both fun and challenging. And the selection? HUUUGE! He loves choosing a new topic each visit (like space, dinosaurs, or sharks) and then finding books at his level. The staff in the children's section are also amazing! Willing to answer his many questions, get excited for reading with him, and help point him in the direction of the topics he is looking for. The prizes from the summer reading program also added additional motivation for him! Weekly rewards and chances at bigger prizes kept him motivated to read every single day of summer! We're so thankful for the resources, creativity, and encouragement the library provides. Highly recommend this program (and others the library has) to any family looking to keep kids engaged and excited about reading! read more

This is the down town library and it's huge. They also host tons of events. They have tons of security which makes you feel safe. It's super clean but not as silent. I came here to study and they also lack in having study areas. If you need a computer they are stacked with computers but if you come with your own and just want to study then it might be difficult to find a good spot. It also gets a bit crowded and it can get loud. If you find a solid spot to study it's definitely a good spot or if you want to stop by and check out a book. It's a solid library. Oh one last thing. The front is closed off. I don't know why but you have to enter through the back but that's where the parking is so it makes sense. I first went through the front and it took me a while to figure out how to enter lol. Anyways get out there and read some books y'all! read more

I recently had the chance to visit this library with some classmates. My first impression was positive as I walked through the door. It's a huge place with some interesting items to look at. All of a sudden a see a female security guard walking fast towards us. In a strong Indian accent she begins to yell "You can't bring your drink inside! You have to throw it away or drink it outside!" One of my classmates had brought in a Starbucks coffee and unbeknownst to us it is a Cardinal Sin in this place. Never mind the homeless that use the bathrooms to do drugs, use it as a personal wash room, watch porn or other inappropriate things! As I pointed out to her another person that had a "disposable drink cup" and asked why it was ok for them to have their drink? She began to say "It's not a disposable cup. I know I saw it." When I began to walk away I observed the security guard walk to the lady with the disposable cup. She obviously didn't use her spidey senses with all guests. Then a male security guard came to us to apologize for the female's behavior towards us. In his strong Indian accent he also asked a bizarre question. He asked to take a picture with us! WTF is wrong with the security there?! I wish I could give this place a better review but apparently all libraries are overrun with homeless people and this particular library has security that puts their emphasis on people bringing in coffee rather than real issues (like homeless using the library as their personal drug place) read more

Came here on a Saturday afternoon to renew our library cards. Apparently we waited too long and we had to sign up all over again. The lady who helped us, was friendly and the process was easy. In and out with our new cards in under 20 minutes. The library was well organized, everything was very clean. They also have a little bookstore and the library has an app via the San Bernardino County libraries system, so you can borrow ebooks, audiobooks etc, if you prefer that over physically going in. Located off Sierra and Arrow Blvd. Plenty of public parking. This was my first visit here. Very clean and beautiful. I was looking for a quiet place to work and found it. There's several desks that you could plug in your laptop. Not sure that I would do conference calls here, but I did see a study room that looked sound proof. I need to ask if you have to make reservations to use them. They even have a small Starbucks at the left if you want to grab a drink or snack. Be mindful that you're not allowed to eat or drink inside the library. A few art pieces caught my eye, The General, statue to the left as you walk upstairs. I believe it's a replica of the soldiers dug up in the Qin Dynasty in China. Absolutely beautiful! It's nice to see that even in the day and age of technology, this library survived and is still being used. read more

This place has nice events and new books. But it has been overtaken by homeless encampments. The entrance smells like pee walking in, despite the Fontana PD being located just feet away. The staff do not welcome pets or bikes and have no problem flagging you at the door. Anything goes at this place. Including drugs just feet from the entrance. This girl with a DORA haircut comes up to me and says I am not allowed to have it on there, and I need to either finish it or spill it in the bathroom. I said ill drink it and she stood there looking at me and was like "are you going to finish it?" Like what the heck is this type of attitude? Shes not my mom... Overbearing staff. Extremely noisy. I came here on multiple days to study for an exam. There are apparently no rules about noise but don't you dare be an adult minding your own business and drinking an energy drink while you read. THAT would be a problem. Never mind all the children running around screaming, just make sure grown-ups don't have liquids. Also, dressing unpretentiously might get you treated like one of the dozen or more homeless people that hang around this place. It does have a good layout, but this is barely a library. read more

I love this place. I missed it so much during the shutdown that when it opened I came every day for 2 months straight. It's always clean and on the quieter side. In the past if there was a family or children's event you would get noise but it's tucked away on the first floor and I'm often on the second so it has never bothered me. The printing is a bit overly complicated but simple enough once you get the hang of it. It's reasonably priced as well. All the chairs I've tried have been very comfortable and the cleaning staff comes about every hour or two, to wipe down empty tables. It does get cold if your spending more than half an hour there. I recommend bringing a light sweater or coat. Also! While the reading corner for the kids is great, there is a park right across the way if they get too rowdy. I definitely don't recommend this place for people who are trying to study. There's loud children and homeless people both inside and outside the library. The staff does not say anything to them. They also don't allow drinks and food in the library which doesn't make any sense because there's a cafeteria downstairs. For someone who is cramming for an exam and needs food and drinks to focus, this is definitely not the place to study. I will not be back. read more

This is our go-to library. They have a coffee shop attached to one of the computer rooms and there's a seating area that you can bring your coffee/food into. The kids area is awesome.. we love getting a study room and bringing our dry-erase markers for some study/fun time. read more

When I was a kid I use to go to the old library that use to be next to the police station...it was so run down then and that was many many many years ago...you know when you had to pull out those long drawers to pull out the paper to find a book. Well this library makes that one look like dusty broom closet. I can still smell the smell of the old one when I think about it. Glad to see Fontana is doing some upgrades to the old areas of town. Now they have to work on getting those damn pawn shops off of Sierra...so sad. read more

The library is a safe haven for me to do my homework in peace, specifically in the upstairs area. They have desks, a few study rooms, and lots of natural light that comes into the building during the day. Most of the employees are friendly and more than helpful. Love that they have a veteran's center and host events for the community. It's a family-friendly environment and very clean. Boy am I glad I came here! Miss Stephanie is the "teacher" as my son calls her. She directs the program as I understood. She is so patient and loves to do what she does. You can see it by the way she does her job. The day we went we did crafts, sang songs, danced, read a few books, and it's all bilingual...English/Spanish! A great way to incorporate another language for your little ones! They also have tons of programs that encourages kids (AND ADULTS) to read. When we check out certain books the kiddos get stickers...and there are other programs on their website you can read about. Did I mention that ages 0-18 get free lunch from 11-12pm Monday-Friday except Tuesday!? I'm talking Pizza Hut and Pick Up Sticks kinda lunch! We now have become "regulars" at this library! read more

Loudest library EVER. More of a children's playground than an actual library. I understand that they have multiple programs that enhances children learning. I also get that it's most important during summer when school is out, BUT what about the rest of us trying to study for upcoming exams, etc. Half the parent's responsibility and half of the staff's responsibility. Fontana has usually been the ugly stepsister to the ever hot and popular younger sister, Rancho Cucamonga. The same could be said of their respective libraries and with pride, Fontana seems to have exercised, eaten well, and gotten a little plastic surgery done. I don't care for plastic surgery, but I'm all for it when it comes to urban planning facelifts. Little by little, Fontana is becoming an attractive place to live, work and play. This library boasts the following: -A cool waterfall seen from Sierra Avenue. -Expansive, contemporary design with simple and classic architectural notes. -It felt like the builders and designers were given free reign to flex their creativity and breathe new life into the heart of the city. In other words, nothing seemed cramped or forced. -Huge selection of books, periodicals, and media (an aisle dedicated to graphic novels? Wow). -From afar, I could see a lot of parents and kids in the children's section. -A projection against the wall downstairs showed letters falling down, allowing anyone to "star" in it and "catch" words onscreen. -Internet bars abound. I wish they had a system of alternating users or giving priority to those using it for educational purposes. -They have information desks and restrooms on both floors. -I noticed a bookstore and a coffee shop on site. -Unspeakably quiet study rooms can be reserved like the way you do it in college. -Staff was friendly and helpful, but I wish they could've been more assertive. -The place is quiet enough to concentrate in. -There's an adjacent auditorium, which I have yet to check out. -People from all walks of life as well as the popular kids at school have actually flocked to a Fontana Library to study and *gulp* hang out. We went here yesterday for tax forms and booklets. They printed out forms for us at our request, but unfortunately, they had no booklets. It makes sense, though, because this place doesn't want to be associated with anything unpleasant. Except, of course, I'm sure they'd welcome ugly stepsisters from any city. read more

Libraries make me happy and the Lewis Library is one of my favorites. Although I am not a resident of Fontana, I work for the school district and I enjoy rubbing elbows with the residents, encouraging literacy and supporting the city and local economy. This is one of my favorite places to come and relax for a bit during my lunch hour. The Lewis Library has a healthy collection of books, audio books (both CD and, my favorite, MP3 books which take up far less discs) and other media forms (DVDs, etc.) Although I usually bring my own computer and use the free WIFI, they have plenty of computers one can use to access the internet. Customer service is a solid 4/5. I don't give out "5s" very often so don't read too much into this score. The reason I have to go with a "4" is because there are times when the waiting times can be a bit long if you need to purchase a replacement card, etc. and there have been a few times when I felt the employees could have been more proactive in their service, but overall the service has always been quite good. Cleanliness: the bathrooms can be a bit stinky, but beyond that they are usually much cleaner than one might expect since they are used often and by some folks who don't go out of their way to avoid making a mess, if you know what I mean. Overall ambiance: sometimes people talk loudly on cell phones, etc. and I wish someone would ask them to be quiet, but generally the place is very quiet. There are also study rooms you can "check out" if you need additional privacy/quiet. I hope Fontana can maintain this beautiful, state-of-the-art library and that the students of FUSD and everyone else, for that matter, will take advantage of this one-of-a-kind resource. read more

I come here often to study as they provide free WiFi. The only issue I've had is that you get logged out of the WiFi after an hour so you have to constantly connect to it again. Other then that it tends to be a nice quiet place to study or read. read more

Pro: Lots of different study spaces, nice, new, coffee bar, wifi, lots of computers, security walks around Cons: Coffee bar sells Starbucks coffee but is not an actual Starbucks. Prices are about $1 more a drink and the drinks themselves do not taste the same. Noise level is not at what you would expect a library to be but its bearable and some areas are better than others. I am a law student so silence is golden to me. Earplugs do the trick. Wish they had a "Quiet Area" where they could be a lot more strict about silence. Read reviews on employees. So far had good experiences with everyone being very friendly. However, just now my niece stopped at the front desk to quickly ask the lady where the conference room because we had been sent there to ask (trying to get the kids to make cookies in a jar) lady was somewhat rude and snarky and I had to go up to tell her they had sent us there and she just said "I don't know anything." Yes there was a long line and she was the only employee and I understand being stressed out and snappy at me but not at my 10 year old niece. My niece was extremely polite to her there was no reason to talk back the way she did. I wish someone actually read these things and made some changes. read more
