We drove back to the USA and used this border crossing. When we arrived there were three lanes open, no NEXUS lane. After bring in line for about 2-3 minutes, another lane opened and many cars moved over to the new lane. We stayed where we were and in about 5-8 minutes we were done with customs. There are a few different options for crossing the border between the United States and Canada. Based on where I was and where I was headed, the Lewiston Queenston Bridge ended up being the most efficient for me to get to Ontario. I understand that this bridge usually has the least congestion compared to the Peace Bridge (bonkers!) or the Whirlpool Bridge (which only accepts drivers with a NEXUS pass). This beautiful arch bridge opened in 1962 and has five lanes over the Niagara River. It serves as the terminus of I-190 in New York and Highway 405 in Ontario. Very good signage points the way to the border and there is a "Last Exit in USA" sign to keep you from doing something dumb. A toll of $5.00 USD (or $6.50 CAD) is grabbed at the border but only heading in to Canada. There is a tollbooth after the border crossing and I was surprised that my North Carolina Quickpass worked. Absolutely amazing and quick service . The immigration officers were very polite and work great . There is a duty free shop at the entrance but we couldn't stop. I'm from Detroit area where we have international crossings that can be busy with wait times - but this is horrible. Been in line for over one hour and I'm not even halfway across the bridge. The website with wait times said it would be about 40 minutes. Lies!! Two lanes for commercial trucks and one lane for cars! The only positive is that my husband can stop and look around the area. I came over this bridge for the first time in a long time because this is how Google maps sent me coming back from Canada one day. The construction seems to be finished here, making this bridge pretty easy and pleasant overall. And driving across Niagara Falls to get to Grand Island. Also isn't a bad drive along the Thruway there. read more

We missed our exit and had no choice but to go through the exit that leads to Canada. Of course we had to turn around there and head back toward the American side. After we have them our Identification I let them know that we weren't in Canada we missed our exit. The fellow and the boarder crossing took several minutes before telling us to go park and go inside. He didn't say why. And I didn't ask. We waited inside about 15-20 minutes before we were called to follow the officer outside where he gave us back out identifications and told us we could leave. The building at the boarder is beautiful! There were several televisions hanging up throughout but none of them were on. There was vending machines inside and lots of seating. Not what I would expect from boarder patrol. It was quiet inside with glass everywhere. You can see but have no access to the corporate side of the patrol building. They were pleasant inside and out. I had no issues I just was never told why we were told to pull over. This was only my second time taking this bridge. The first time I was coming from the United States Entering into Canada. It was anew Years Eve night and we thought it would crowded but it wasn't. The boarder patrol into Canada was nice the entire infraction was seconds long and the traffic was light. read more

The Lewiston-Queenston bridge is located at the end of the 405 in Ontario in Queenston or the beginning the I-190 in Lewiston on the New York side. Depending on what side of the border you're on perhaps you'll call bridge by another name. I've always referred to this bridge as the Queenstown-Lewiston Bridge as opposed to how this bridged is named here with Lewison-Queenston but regardless we're talking about the same bridge north of Niagara Falls on either side of the border. This bridge is one of the 3 major general public road crossings between Ontario and New York state for the Niagara region. The other bridges include the Peace bridge which is the largest full traffic bridge bordering Fort Erie and Buffalo, the Rainbow bridge connects both sides of Niagara Falls and the Whirlpool bridge also known as the "lower" bridge is the dedicated Nexus only bridge. The Lewiston-Queenstown bridge is the only other bridge besides the Peace Bridge that allows commercial trucks since the Whirlpool is Nexus only and the Rainbow does not allow trucks. Because of the truck restriction this crossing can be busy with truck traffic although there are dedicated lanes for trucks to the right. I haven't been to this crossing in a very long time and I noticed this visit that the border has been completely overhauled with a new look and lanes dedicated to the rather upgraded looking duty free shop on the Canadian side. If you're going Buffalo or making your way to I-90 east or west you'll have to drive south along I-190 and unless you're going to take US-62 east towards I-290, you'll have to pay a 1 dollar toll to drive on and off of Grand Island. That toll has recently been automated and they are no longer collecting cash. They only charge a toll to cross that bridge like all tolls going into Canada and do not collect going into the US. That toll may fluctuate depending on where the US dollar is in relation to the Canadian dollar but the last time I crossed into Canada on the Whirlpool bridge the price was 3.75 USD. You can pay the toll in either US or Canadian currency. There is no dedicated Nexus lane for this crossing. read more

I've been crossing these bridges dozens of times each year, for over 30 years, and I am not a fan of this bridge, for a few reasons, -Crossing from Canada into the U.S. always results in heavy questioning. I'm not sure why, but it always happens. They don't do that kind of interrogation at the Rainbow Bridge or Peace Bridge, just here. Further, I've come across early in the morning and they will only have one or two lanes open, which results in very long waits. -Crossing from the U.S. to Canada on holidays is a nightmare, with tons of traffic, that's when you want to always avoid this bridge. Although, the Canadian customs officers are usually nice, and the duty free has great prices. The speed limit on the bridge is 15 miles per hour. Far too low of a limit. It's ridiculous, and rarely anyone drives that slow on it. read more

Known as the Lewiston Queenston Bridge on the United States side of boarder and the Queenston Lewiston Bridge on the Canadian side, this is the bridge you want to take from the Buffalo or Niagara Falls area when heading into Canada toward Toronto and want to miss the congestion and tourist traffic of Niagara Falls, Fort Eire or Buffalo areas. It's far less congested with traffic and the customs agents, particularly those on the US side have a reputation of being far more polite and pleasant. The bridge and bridge areas have recently been greatly improved. Before crossing into Canada the is a brand spanking new duty free store, perfect for picking up a bottle booze or a carton of cigarettes as purchasing the same in Canada is far more expensive and because Canada has a Provincial government run liquor store system, far less of a hassle. Though the bridge itself isn't all that much an inspiring structure, the crossing experience is so superior to experiences one typically encounters using the Peace or Rainbow bridges, I'm rating it Five Stars. read more

I do like a "Lemontwiston" my frozen custard and ice cream when I'm up in Middlesbrough, England, and "Lemontwiston" is the closest I can get to a parody of Lewiston. And I wonder who the Queen of England is banging these days, I'm sure the British tabloids know who the "Queens-on". Yeah I'm reaching. Personal experience: Well, I've crossed this bridge more than a few times now, most notably my first crossing, during the World Cup of 2006, and they made me late to watch the Semi Final (gasp), still, I have no really hard feelings towards it. My truly heinous experiences happened at the Rainbow Bridge. The one that has always been good to me is the Peace Bridge. I thought this bridge was the Whirlpool Bridge, so my joke was going to be: Remove the "L" at the end of the name, and you have exactly what happens inside the toilet bowl when you flush after a #2. And also: This bridge was originally a sheep-only crossing. Hence its original name, the Woolpool Bridge. These days, they "whirl" you across if you have a NEXUS card. But other than that little has changed. It is a bridge where sheep cross. BURN! OK just kidding. I give this bridge a mediocre review because I've only used it once, and both times I was held up for a long time (see what I did there? No? Neither did I). The first time I used this bridge was during World Cup 2006. I wanted to get back home to watch Italy v Germany (Semi Final) and it didn't work out at all because they kept me here forevvvvvvvvver. They always do long interrogations when I cross borders into the USA, but this was a little extreme. In any case, once I get a NEXUS card I will give it another try and see if my rating improves. read more

One of my favorite crossings between Ontario and New York! The bridge makes a short crossing over the Niagara River between Queenston, ON and Lewiston, NY. It is well-maintained and entry to and exit from on either side of the border is usually effortless. I suspect the bridge is owned by the respective governments, so the tolls are very reasonable. By the way, it is a free ride from Ontario to New York, pay the toll on the way back to Ontario. read more

It's hell sometimes being an American.. It's as if they don't care when you are leaving America at some of these borders. This however isn't one of these places. I mean I get it, let's keep my country safe, but maybe we really do need more border patrols etc... Thanks a lot bin laden! Oh but this one, yeah real quick and efficient, not like say Montreal border coming out of Vermont and vice versa.. I pulled up and was about 5th in line on Saturday afternoon and it didn't take more than 20 minutes to get through. I was greeted with no smile, no jokes, no personality but I guess when you are trying to sift through the bad guys you need to keep a blank stare going. This person did exactly that. Then I was in Canada and I felt immediately more wealthy, maybe because my $1 was worth a $1.30 Coming back I came home a different way and was lucky enough to get picked for a secondary screening, very exciting. read more

This bridge doesn't have quite the capacity that Peace does, but it is a bit cleaner and in some respects better organized, particularly in relation to the Duty Free shops. It can be useful to take coming back into the US in the summer, because the line will sometimes be shorter. As always, keep an eye on NITTEC or peacebridge.com to see the wait times. The US customs agent on the American side of the border was very polite and professional. Unfortunately the same can't be said of the Canadian customs agent on the Canadian side of the border. Everyone in the car was embarrassed that foreign tourists heading into Canada will be greeted by someone so laughably rude and unprofessional. Here's an idea to improve service ... hand out surveys at the gate. For example, "On a scale from Captain Canada down to Disgruntled Mall Cop, how would you rate your customs agent's attitude today?" If nothing else, visitors will think we have a sense of humor! read more

This bridge into Canada is pretty easy to get across. The signs make it easy to follow. They have a lane for buses and trucks and then the other lane is for Autos & RVs. The duty-free area has lots of options. The border patrol staff is always friendly and they may actually speak to you in French. read more

My laptop and iPad went missing right after they searched my car. I had it right before I crossed over because my passport was in the same bag. I've been trying to get it back, but the supervisor said he can't see the officers taking anything on the security video. But that doesn't mean it didn't happen. Niagara Police haven't followed up with them either. They just assumed that wouldn't happen. read more
