Lew is the best guy. His whole modus operandi is to keep old Volvos on the road. My husband bought his Volvo from Lew, and it's a 24 year old car in great condition, thanks to being serviced by Lew for years before my husband owned it. Seriously, there's a cult around Lew. Been going to Lew for over 15 years. His office is a mess but he is a fantastic Volvo repair auto mechanic. Specializes in older models. I literally bought another Volvo because Lew is there to service it (and will sell it when he retires). He worked on the assembly line in Sweden decades ago. He can diagnose your Volvo car problem over the phone, he is so expert at what ails these Volvo's. The only downside is that he is a solo operation and he is in high demand so it may take some time to get your car back. So call ahead and schedule a time with him. read more

Lew is a Volvo specialist -- maybe the best in the New York - New Jersey area. A few years ago, while I was in grad school, I ran into a bad experience with another shop. I was convinced that it was the end of the road for my car (an 850), but a professor told me to go to Lew before giving up. I took his advice, and Lew had my car up and running again in just a few days. He also charged a very reasonable price for the work. Since then, Lew has kept my car running well. Lew has been working on Volvos since (probably) before I was born. He's honest, intelligent, and he does careful work. He's also a great guy. Well Well!!! I bought a 2006 S60 R for my son and haven't had a volvo since 1988 when I had a 1974 144 4 dr...I came across Lew by not giving up on a wild search for a real Mechanic from the Old school days. one with no stories after you drop off the car, one with no crazy pricing, one that truly Loves his work and has from the beginning of time. I started my search at 11 pm one evening and finally after 3.5 hrs of pushing the limits on google with lots of cut and paste and hit the search button I found a review on here that spoke from the heart. And That God It did. i called Volvo in Englewood and the serv guy must of not been happy working on Saturdays, quotes me one crazy price for a PCV replacement. Called Volvo in Hasbrouck Heights and get a complete different figure of the same job. They where off by 3 hrs in labor. Hence forward. I speak to Lew. He is honest quoted the perfect price, and realized my alternator was not charging as well. I knew that was an issue, i saw the code and he knew out of the 3 similar models that can be installed, which one and why I needed. Just so Happy that their is one more guy that really doesn't like nonsense talk! respects his job as well as his customers. And very happy to see that his son has joined The Lew Legend. Lew is as honest as the day is long and no one knows Volvos the way he does. I have recommended him to other Volvo owners and every single one of them uses him exclusively as a result. The only word of caution is that he is busy and if you're having some pretty significant work done then he's going to need a couple of days to do it - and sometimes he can be a little optimistic as to when it'll be ready. However, he doesn't cut corners and takes a lot of pride in his work. Trust him implicitly. read more

i have been going to lew since 92? i bought my first volvo from him, via a recommendation from a buddy. i now worship at the church of,"lew's foreign car." the volvo i bought from him was crazy great and he kept it running for me, even after i made it an art car, much to his head shaking. i have owned 2 other volvos since then, based solely on the fact that i love the cars and i have lew to work on them for me. he is honest, funny, beyond reasonable, and very patient. i have called him from the road to help me out from strandings. he is game for stuff like that. he is actually excited by that, because it allows him to prove that volvos always fail in the positive....you can make them run, you will not be stranded. i use to live within 45 minutes of lew, now i live over 3 hours away and i still bring my car to him. that is how much i love this guy. i love the older model, rear wheel, wagons that volvos make.....i will always buy them, as long as i have lew. i need a truck for my lifestyle, but i will stick with volvos because of lew. and he fishes! how great is that? read more

The owner, "Lew" is a crack pot. A true legend in his own mind. Don't waste your time with this guy or his pig-stye of a shop. It seems his service got worse as my visits and expenditure increased. His lot is deceivingly full, leading you to think he is very busy and successful. Well, I found out the hard way why there are so many cars there. He is the only person there, no one tending the phones, a phone he never answers. Particularly when it's time to pick up your car. He has no other mechanics, yet his hours are erratic, preferring to go fishing rather than concerning himself with his customer's cars and their timely repair. He determines that he needs to order parts, doesn't call you until a week later on a part that takes him two weeks to get!! He had the nerve to tell me he wasn't swamped, just not really "pushing himself" to get things done in a timely manner. I brought him one of my volvo's with a specific problem, he swore all it needed was a specific part. Ordered it and a month later, he admitted he never looked at mine and didn't realize it was a different type and need more parts. This was after he kept my car two days longer than necessary, for an afternoon's worth of work; not answering his phone nor having the decency to tell me he needed more time. He removed parts from my car, forgetting to put them back, I had to remind him to do so. Fed up, I called him 5 times in a row so he'd asnwer the phone and was actually annoyed when I asked him to reassemble my car so I can just pick it up. He told me he needed three hours to put my two trim panels back and charged me $80 for a job he couldn't finish plus $295 for a part that wasn't even broken. When I asked for the old part, it was fully intact and operational. Lew close your doors. You shouldn't be in business. Stay away from this shop! read more
