Went to adult night on Monday! Boyyy did we have a time. Though, i wish they would say drinks are only allowed at the table or at the bar. Ppl were dropping their cups and making spills entirely too much on the skating rink floor which was ruining the experience. I love skating! Having a bar & tvs there was also nice. I got to watch the Lions win! I enjoy the music, but i feel like it could've been another speaker because the audio shouldve been louder. The DJ can play good old school music too, preferably super sonic or skate. I wanted to ride more in a fast/fun way. It was alot of slow songs. They drinks were nice, not watery. The staff are nice and all smiles. I brought my own skates but they have rentals for a fee. read more

Very fun night with friends and family that didn't break the bank. For a different experience watching bikes zoom around a banked track this is the place to go. There are multiple races each one a few minutes long, then a break while the next riders get situated then they're off again. There is an announcer calling the race which was super helpful and added to the excitement. We opted for tickets that included seating so we ended up at a hightop - which had a bike as a base. Very cool. You can wander around though and check out the bikers getting ready and see the race from different vantage points. We enjoyed going to the outside of the track and looking down on the racers. You can really get a sense of how vertical they are and how fast they are going when you do that. Drinks are available for purchase, no food but you can bring your own. The facility was very clean, very well maintained, ample parking in the lots outside and easy to find. A fun night out and we'll be doing it again. read more

Great way to work out if you can get past the Hamster wheel feel, round and round. There is less bike traffic during the week in the mornings during the open rides. They cater to the racers and the young riders. If you are fit and old you can still ride but it's not a welcoming situation. If you are a cyclist ( I've done many rides in Michigan including the DALMAC a few times, etc and some triathlons) with good fitness, you can ride the track. It's not that hard once you get some riding time. They require you take their track classes which is good. They have bikes (Track Bikes) for you to rent. Like most things, if you can get on the track often it becomes a nice workout. I wish they would build one in Ann Arbor for us old but fit riders. If you're a racer, it's a great way to get indoors and ride. read more

2020-01-11 Lexus Velodrome. Detroit, MI. My phone crashed and I lost all my notes for my visit to the Velodrome, so I apologize in advance for the lack of detail this review may hold. Every year I volunteer with several organizations to give back to the community. One of these organizations is Free Bikes for Kids (FB4K Detroit), a nonprofit organization dedicated to sustainability and a green footprint. Their modus operandi is to collect gently used bicycles that 8 million Americans grow out of each year. These bicycles are cleaned and refurbished, then given away to kids most in need. A great cause which is why I support them wholeheartedly. For this I would also like to give a shout out to their partners and sponsors for their contributions in making all this possible; Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Foundation (FCA), Henry Ford Health System, Children's Foundation, Community Foundation for SE Michigan, the Platform, and APTIV PLC to name a few. FB4K Detroit works out of one of the Ford Piqutte Plant buildings on Piquette Avenue in the Milkwaukee Junction area of Detroit, the birthplace of the Ford Midel T! Today this Plant is home to one of Fords many museums. At the end of riding season (Oct-Nov) every year, FB4K Detroit accepts bicycle donations at several locations scattered throughout SE Michigan. For more info visit fb4kdetroit.org The Lexus Velodrome was the venue for FB4K volunteer appreciation social gathering to update us on the impacts of our efforts the past year and to provide glimpses of future goals. There were races scheduled for the evening and we decided to stay. Tickets are $10 in the infield and $5 in the balustrade, which make for a relatively inexpensive outing considering there will be about 3 hours of racing for you to enjoy. The Lexus Velodrome is located on Mack Ave at Chrysler Drive (I-75) in Midtown, Detroit. It opened its doors in January of 2018 and this 64,000 square foot facility features a 166 meter wooden indoor track with 50° banked turns! There is plenty of free parking in their private lot as well as free street parking if their lot is full. The facility is an indoor multi-sport complex and is managed by the Detroit Fitness Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. In addition to cycling, they offer community fitness classes taught by experienced fitness instructors as well as walking, running, and skating on your own. During events, the infield has a licensed bar and VIP seating where the action is literally a few feet away! Each VIP suite comes with a flat panel TV and seats up to 10 people. The suites can be booked for $200 (the same price as 10 regular admissions - no premium or surcharges!) Food is pretty much non-existent as there is no facility for it. You can bring in your own snacks though. After the FB4K event, there was about an hour before the races. We purchased out tickets and were allowed to stay until the races began. You can roam around the facilities freely, which I did, and found out that even in the balustrade (standing room only), there are great views (sometimes even better views) at the finish line (see pics and videos). The only other notable is that the restroom facilities is a huge port-a-John. But not what you're thinking, it's not individual John's you see at construction sites, it's more like showroom John's. They're lit, the walls are not bare, and the loos and sinks are fully functioning as if they were plumbed. All in all, it turned out to be a great event. The races are exciting and entertaining, the venue is unique. and the infield can be booked for just about any type of function. Just think, you can do your thing, while cyclists are whizzing by in the background! I highly recommend you visit at least once just to experience it. You'll be supporting a great community venture. Memberships are available at monthly rates, and in addition to cycling, there are various fitness classes you can partake in. This place is so impressive! My husband races at the Major Taylor Veledrome I indianapolis so he plotted out s visit to this indoor track during a quick weekend visit to Detroit. Located along the highway near downtown, I have to imagine a lot of people drive by this spot without even knowing what it is. Inside you'll find an impressive track for indoor cycling races and a great setup for spectators including a bar, couch lounge areas, engaging announcers, bathrooms and fun lighting. This velodrome has a fun party vibe and you can tell a lot of the spectators are regulars and there's a sense of community. Parking is easy and free and I paid ten dollars to attend as a spectator which I thought was worth it. If I lived in Detroit, I would grab a few friends to catch the races here on the weekend. I especially enjoyed seeing the youth race- they were tearing it up! Last note- I wonder how often this spot is used as a non-sporting related venue. It would be perfect for a big bash with the inner track area and the exterior track space. Very cool experience. read more

I drove in from 4hrs away to race here during one of their Saturday Night Rumbles and was extremely impressed with the production of the evening. Here were the high points Community: the racers and staff who showed up were all welcoming and warm, and it made the place feel like a home track. Joachim, the facilities manager and coach, gave me some pointers for a first time rider on their short, steep 166m wooden track. He took me around the track for a few laps to guide me through some racing lines and make sure I was comfortable taking the turns super fast and super slow. Facility: They turned what looked like it used to be a parking lot into a very fine indoor velodrome, which is a boon to the region. Bathrooms were in something that looked like a portable bathroom trailer, but were very clean and full service with running water, soap, toilet stalls, etc. Changing tents in the outfield to get suited up. Racing: The local riders here are generally very competent and safe (you need these traits on this track!). It is apparent the velodrome management team does a thorough job with skills training for the community. The infield has a wonderful party/bar/club atmosphere that I could see being very appealing for even non-cyclists to enjoy an evening watching races. The videographer, tv monitors, and race announcers make the place feel reminiscent of the six-day race/parties in Europe. Cool! Will definitely come back for more racing. read more

Last night was our first time at the Velodrome, and it was astounding. The racing was exciting, but with a small learning curve to figure out how the various races were configured. Staff was great, very friendly and accommodating. All in all, a very cool place to spend an evening. Lots of seating and standing options, with a really good bar ("Spoke Easy") in the middle of everything. It is surprisingly affordable, with good choices for all kinds of drinks, and a taco food truck was in the building too. Cottage Inn pizza can be ordered from the floor, delivered in 30 minutes. The restrooms are actually like a space station version of porta-potties, extremely nice, and very clean. Worth a visit even if you don't need to go! Parking in the school lot next door is free and close. The only negative is the echo-ey sound system. It is very difficult to understand what is being announced, so much so that it could have been in a different language and we wouldn't have noticed. If they can fix that, they get the fifth star. We will be back, for sure, with friends in tow. More folks need to see and experience how great the Lexus Velodrome is. read more

Great venue for Saturday night races, and monthly Friday+Saturday night championships. These are fast-paced and exciting races at speeds in excess of 40 mph on fixed-gear bikes with no brakes around tight 50º banked turns! Of course it's also a great place to ride, roller-blade, run, walk, lift weights or join in a group fitness class. While spectating a race or after a workout, ease on up to the Spoke Easy bar and enjoy a craft beer, cocktail, coffee, soda, etc. Just a fun place to be for so many great activities. So happy that we have an indoor velodrome in Detroit! After spectating on the opening weekend I registered and attended Track 101 and Track 201 now I'm looking forward to Track 301 and maybe racing ;) Having a place to ride indoors beyond rollers or a trainer in winter is awesome. read more

After passing by the dome for months and saying to myself I must check this out... I bought tix to Octoberfest this weekend. We walked in and were helped by the awesome staff to rearrange a little seating faux pas that we created. They were so happy and insistent on making it work for us. When we walked up the staircase into the arena it takes your breath away...all you can say is Wow!! When the races began another Wow!!! I thought I might get bored watching the nights line up if 12 races. But no way!!!! So much excitement. I found myself cheering and clapping for the bikers! Everyone there was so helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. The Hughes went above and beyond to make us have a great experience. I highly suggest you visit this gem! read more

Even if you never had an interest in bike racing you really need to check it out! They bring in pros from all over the country and the world, and you're literally right next to the action. The racing is fantastic! $15 for a general admission ticket, kids are FREE and parking is FREE! They usually have a food vendor and you can get a draft beer at the bar for $6. Cheapest sports entertainment in town. You can spend hundreds of dollars to take your family to a Lions, Tigers, Pistons, or Red Wings game or you can watch something unique and spend less than $50 on the entire family. What's more you can bring the kids back for a track riding lesson and try it for yourself, I did and my kids LOVED IT. read more

Spent three days here on vacation with my grown kids. All active riders. Did track 101, open riding and watched the racing on the weekend. Great group of guys running the place. Luke was excellent in track 101. Bikes are in great shape. Velodrome is awesome. New and in great condition. All the riders were respectful of each other. Got in some great riding. Will definitely be back. High speed, lots of grins and worked our butts off. read more
