I wanted to try everything but I settled for a fried musubi and a katsu musubi, and while chatting I had mentioned I assumed that the sandwiches were gonna be like the ones with lettuce and all the deluxe options... she had been preparing her lunch, one of her menu items! A chicken sando. She had no problem offering me half (thank you, lol) honestly it tasted amazing. The flavors were great and it was a cute little spot in a crowded food hall that actually had space for lots of people. I also asked about good coffee and both the owner and her employee had immediately said "upstairs, is the best coffee" and I laughed because I knew the name was best coffee but they said it's definitely worth it. ! So my mind was expecting cherry flavor and it definitely had a floral flavor to it because of the cherry blossoms. I do really appreciate the natural flavoring and the quality of ice was good and after a bit I got used to the floral taste. It would be nice to have a couple of flavors to pick from. Not inexpensive but it was a treat.

The rice was done really well, and the mac salad was exactly how I like it. The people working in the food cart were super friendly and brought great energy. The prik nam pla (fish sauce, chiles, maybe a little lime?) was really great -- something about the flavor really popped for me and was tasty. And everything was served hot and fresh. But the pork belly sucked, and that kinda ruined the dish for me. The fatty parts weren't melt-in-your-mouth at all. They were just chewy. The skin wasn't crispy, it also was chewy. The meaty parts weren't juicy at all, they were tough. I dunno, everything about it seemed wrong. And getting the pork belly right seems like a crucial part of the overall dish. We ordered the Pad Thai, Tom Yum shrimp soup, and the Lao sausage with sticky rice, and everything was absolutely delicious. The Tom Yum soup was one of my favorites -- savory and sour, perfectly spiced, and very comforting. The Pad Thai with chicken was a classic and full of flavor. The Lao sausage was amazing. Not everyone knows about Lao sausage, but it's truly a delicacy. It was big, plump, and packed with flavor. You can taste the lemongrass and garlic, and it pairs perfectly with sticky rice. Very authentic and so satisfying. The service was also wonderful. They even came out to check on us and make sure everything tasted good, which we really appreciated. There were some good food choices, but some bad ones too (including some listed on their on-line menu that wasn't available), and the service was the opposite of friendly. Fork and Spoon was listed as one of the best Filipino restaurants in the Portland area. I wanted to go some place where the food was made-to-order. After looking at their really colorful and put together website, saw that they had dishes like Humba and Champurrado, along with what looked like Chicken Inasal. We found free street parking right in front. I noticed the sign that stated no public bathroom was available. The inside was very quiet, with one couple quieting eating their food, and an older non-customer gentleman minding his own business. We were taken to a table near a window, and given a menu. It's a very simple one, and none of the dishes I was looking for were listed. I asked the hostess/server about it, and she just shrugged and basically told me she had no idea. Yeah... So I reset, and ordered the things that we always order at a Filipino restaurant. COMBO Meal ($23) - Consisting of Pork Adobo, Rice, Bihon style pancit, and shangahi lumpia. The steamed rice was excellent...sounds goofy to say, but have had so much bad white rice at restaurants lately. The pork adobo was good, using very fatty pieces of pork, but cooked to be very tender without being mushy, and the strong sauce was great over the rice. I liked the pancit, with the large vegetable pieces and it worked since it had been made-to-order. But the lumpia was bad: it had been deep fried from frozen, and the center was still cold. Plus, the meat had been ground too finely, causing the filling to be mealy. Pork BBQ Skewer ($17) - three skewers of pork barbeque. It was thinly sliced and expertly skewered, but that's where the goodness ended. The sauce wasn't good, just a very weak teriyaki type sauce. The meat had quite a bit of gristle (which is OK with me if it has flavor, but this did not). It had been cooked on a flattop grill so missed the charring of the meat over fire. It just tasted old, like it had been reheated Have no idea why this is $17...the price fooled me into thinking this would be a 'deluxe' version of this classic...should be closer to $7.50, especially since it was served as an app (no rice or sides). Halo-Halo ($9) - a shareable ice cream dish, topped with a scoop of really good ube ice cream and a shower of fruity pebbles. It came with a piece of leche flan and various sweet beans and jelly at the bottom. I really liked this. My only wish was that it was made with shaved ice instead of crushed ice, but I understand it can be too time consuming. It just felt like we came to a place on a day (or time) when everyone was just trying to get through the day. The prices were good (except for the BBQ), and the portions decent. But along with unfriendly service and the hit/miss taste, it's a place I wouldn't go out of my way for (even though I love the name and their website).
