In 2021, I received a chemical peel at this med spa that resulted in a SEVERE chemical burn to my back. The peel was performed by a front desk receptionist who was "in training," not a licensed or certified aesthetic provider. I later learned this occurred because no qualified provider was available at the time, and rather than rescheduling the service, the treatment was performed anyway. I was not informed that the individual performing the treatment was unlicensed, nor was appropriate supervision or medical oversight provided. The result was significant skin injury--second degree burns, as shown in photos taken during my visit at the BURN UNIT. This was not a post-chemical peel reaction -- it was a chemical burn. At the time, I did not fully understand the seriousness of what had occurred. As a nurse working in the field of aesthetics today, I now clearly recognize this as negligence and a breakdown in management, supervision, and patient safety standards. To this day, I'm still baffled by how this was handled afterwards. Beyond the physical injury, the lack of accountability and concern from management/owner during my recovery was deeply upsetting and added to the emotional toll of an already traumatic experience. I chose Shimmer Salon because it was close to my home and had good reviews. I was able to schedule my haircut online with Yelina. I loved everything about my first time visit with Yelina that I have been back two other times for haircuts with her. The salon is on the main floor of this old house and I love that, like many businesses in Ocala. It is always clean and neat when I visit. Yelina always does a great job with shampooing, conditioning, and cutting my hair. Yelina also always finds a way to keep the volume in my hair and cut it so it looks like a new haircut for at least a month afterwards. Yelina is also quick, maybe because I'm simple with my requests. There are several other hair stylists here and they also have a tattoo studio. They have blowout memberships and products for sale. The hours are better than most salons in the area and they have their own parking lot.
