I really really wanted to like the food in the new location for Liang's Chinese restaurant in Tyler Texas. The location is so much better than the corporate like location they used to have. However, this was not the case. The food here is mediocre at best, and the prices are way too high for the quality of the food. We spent over 70$ with soup, two entrees, a pot of tea and a vegetable dish not on the menu. The vegetable dish was supposed to be Chinese greens, but was in fact a type of tough Yu Choy cooked in a wok with whole garlic and very little seasoning. This place needs a good Chinese chef to save it from mediocre death. We will not be returning unless something changes. We ordered: Orange chicken, Salted shrimp and the greens. My partner had the wonton soup which was over salted. I had the sweet and sour soup. This soup tasted somewhat like the delicious versions I have had in great restaurants, but this version was very bland, not hot, and not sour, and served lukewarm. The orange chicken was not crisp, the chicken old tasting, and the salted shrimp nothing like the good version. It had an over worked batter that seemed to mask the taste of the shrimp. And it was served with old tasting fried rice, and nothing else. The greens were the most disappointing of all. Remembering the pea greens we used t get in Sand Diego at the amazing Asian places there, I was expecting at least that type of green as the basis for the dish. And by the way, there were NO vegetable dishes even listed on the menu! I don't ever think I have been to a Chinese restaurant that had NO vegetable dished on the menu. We had to ask if they had vegetable dishes, and we were assured they did. This was obviously a novel request because at least three employees came by our table to marvel that we ordered it, and to ask us how it was. Again, mediocre. Tough Yu Choy cooked in while garlic and nothing else that I could taste. East Texas is still the land of three major food groups: meat, fried food. and more meat. I really really wanted to enjoy this new location, and my mouth was watering for delicious Chinese food, but oh well, chalk this up to another mediocre dining experience in Tyler Texas. This place really needs a food re haul. If anyone out here is looking for a new business, Tyler Texas needs good, healthy, fabulous restaurants. read more

Sorry, but this was pathetic. The Kung pao chicken was nasty. The pork fried rice was something I've never tasted before, moldy???? Wanton soup was probably from Costco, large size was tall container with extra broth. Needless to say all left overs went in garbage. 1st time for Uber eats. No space to leave real criticism on Uber eats, so posting on yelp. Avoid this place. Had not eaten all day and needed something to eat, so i tempted fate. Upon moving to Tyler my wife told me that Liang's was one of the highest rated Chinese restaurants in town. So, since we've been on lockdown here I decided to give it a go for a Sunday dinner. We ordered from DoorDash (no issues there - this is purely about the food) and the order arrived quickly. After getting the food to the table (sorry for no pictures) I wanted to post my thoughts on it. First of all, not counting the tip and fees our order came to about $57. In this order we got two entrees, a kid's meal, two egg rolls, crab rangoon, and a small hot and sour soup. Before I start let me say that the food itself was pretty tasty. I got the sesame chicken while my wife grabbed the beef & broccoli. We picked up the sweet and sour chicken kid's meal for our son. The food was packaged much as you'd expect from your typical Chinese restaurant. Here was my first issue with the food: the entree I purchased was $16 and it came packaged more like a lunch serving - no side of rice included. Now I've had plenty of take-out from several different Chinese restaurants before, back in my hometown of Bloomington. For the same amount of food I'd have paid dollars less. The same goes for my wife's entree. My son's meal was a handful of chicken with some wedge-like fries that were soggy and salty. Usually he would opt for rice, but this time he rolled the dice and was disappointed. As for the hot and sour soup, the wife claimed that it had nearly no salt content and was very lacking in seasoning. Now I know that by this point in the review, which hasn't been like my others, I've sounded like I'm simply complaining about the price and/or lack of food. Let me say this to make a point: the order was just not, to me, worth the price tag attached to it. The food was hit and miss on taste (mine and my wife's entrees were quite good), however it was definitely not a "bang for your buck" situation. Bottom line: if you're looking for some tasty Chinese for lunch, this would be a good option. I would avoid it for dinner and take-out for sure. read more

I was not impressed with this restaurant at all. Both employees I came in contact with were rude. However, the main disappointment was the food. Everything was bland & didn't have flavor or seasoning or was watered down. We ordered fried rice (zero flavor), beef with broccoli (hardly any flavor), sweet & sour chicken (this actually would've been okay if not for the watery awful sauce that came with it) and fried dumplings. I have been eating Liang's since the 70's when it was in the Old English Village. I was so excited when I heard that they opened a restaurant near Swann's. It was Sunday after church and we were seated immediately. Our waiter was on point. Hubby ordered General Tso's and I ordered Shrimp Egg Fu Yung. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time. The Shrimp Egg Fu Young was incredible. (The leftovers were just as amazing). Unfortunately hubby's General Tao's tasted exactly like General Tso's that we buy at Sam's. Wish I would have taken a picture of the Shrimp Egg Fu Yung. Good news is that hubby is a Shrimp Egg Fu Young fan. Hopefully management will realize that they can't serve food out of a bag and survive in Tyler. read more

Great affordable Chinese food! They had a wide variety. The restaurant itself was really nice inside and the staff friendly and helpful. I got the sweet and sour shrimp my husband got a tofu dish both very good. They also had complementary chip things with a sweet dipping sauce. At the end of the meal the also gave us a orange that was nice and ripe. Great place! read more

But the last 3 orders we have made over the last couple of weeks both online and dine in have either not been correct or not even started until I called back or showed up to pick up my order. Each time they have said they were busy with orders. But after an hour and a half after my order was placed and inquired, it is clear they were not busy. Each time they made no effort to do anything to retain my business or care what so ever. Beware. It's a shame to the Liang family who no longer owns the restaurant. read more

We decided to try Liangs since it was close by and really enjoyed our lunch. The service was excellent and the prices reasonable. The crispy wontons with sweet dipping sauce await you as you are seated at your table. We both ordered lunch specials which included choice of egg roll or spring roll, fried, white, or brown rice, and either egg drop or won ton soup. This has been our go to Chinese restaurant for years, but something has happened. The normally delightful fried wonton was greasy and tasteless. Our server never smiled and was nonexistent after our drink order. My moo goo ghi pan was as dreary as the spring roll accompanying it. I'm so sad and pray this was a bad day. I was thoroughly disappointed with the food at Liang's. My husband and I couldn't even tell which meal was which because they tasted almost identical. I got the Kung Pao chicken and it had so many pieces of chopped water chestnuts for filler and very little chicken. The egg rolls and hot and sour soup we're good. I would love to come back & eat here! They were not busy at all when I visited between 3:30-4:30 on Wednesday afternoon. (It was even within walking distance of work, so I came here on my lunch break.) The dining area was so beautifully decorated & well-maintained. They also had 2 stalls in their restrooms, & those were also well-cleaned & well-maintained. I sat in a nice booth near the sushi bar. They have plenty of good menu options, even for vegetarians. For my appetizer, they brought out these fried & dried noodle-like chips with some *sweet* sweet-&-sour sauce for dipping (dare I say, like the Chinese restaurant version of chips & queso?). I had water to drink, & my server was friendly & helpful & kept my water glass adequately filled. My vegetarian-friendly dish that I ordered was the tofu dish with the spicy sauce & fried rice (you get the choice of white or fried rice). The sauce was delicious & awesomely spicy (glad my water glass stayed full!). I wouldn't mind ordering the same dish again, but I'd still like to try some of the other vegetable dishes.
