Before I get into the 2-star rating, I'll throw out a couple of positives. The first is that the orders are fairly plentiful and .......... well, I though I had at least two positives but I guess I was wrong..... I have tried Posh's Rice Cafe three times before writing this review and there is really only one tru constat between all three: The food didn't AT ALL seem like it was cooked on that day. It had been a long time since we went to Poch's Rice Cafe and I don't know what happened, but it went from great to awful. The egg rolls were saturated in oil, the hot and sour soup tasted like dishwater and they even managed to mix up the shrimp we ordered with chicken. The only thing salvageable was the steamed dumplings and they were not great. All this ran almost forty dollars, very disappointed. read more

The food has always been good and the value for your money was always excellent but it has been a long time since we were in this establishment because it had taken on the appearance of a flea market with all of the items that were placed for sale inside. I need to go back just to see if things have changed. I realize that the quality of the food and the service of this restaurant have nothing in coordination with the items for sale but I still prefer to enjoy my meal(s) in a nice clean environment and not with the look of a garage sale going on around me. read more

On my forever hunt to find decent Chinese food in the city, this was on our list today. Ordered a mixed fried rice plate and a Mongolian beef plate. Price wise it was a little bit high for the amount of food delivered to us. Also, it is a little bit more pricier than other restaurants we have gone to in the city. Considering this is East Texas, I expect prices to be a little bit higher than in the bigger cities. Mongolian beef. This is what I ordered and sadly it was not that good. Mongolian beef is supposed to be spicy and this dish had absolutely no spice even though I did ask them to make sure it was spicy. For some reason here in East Texas Chinese restaurants seem to make their Mongolian beef sweet. In all my years traveling I've never had sweet Mongolian beef anywhere but in East Texas. So back to this restaurants Mongolia beef it was lacking in flavor and spice. One positive the beef was tender. Came with a side of what I assumed was fried rice. It definitely wasn't just plain white rice. It had a slight brown color to it and not much flavor. If this is a version of fried rice then they need to find any recipe. Husband got the mixed protein fried rice. He said it was really good but then again he eats anything and everything because he hates to waste food. As for the restaurant. It was really dated. Boots were worn out and they had a bunch of knick knacks in the corner of the restaurant for sale. Also they had a sheet separating one area from another area. Not sure what was behind that sheet and I'm not sure I really wanted to know. As for the staff, lackluster at best. Tried to ask a few questions. Didn't get much of an answer. Being Asian myself I know that restaurant staff members seem to be very quiet and they only interact when you interact with them first. So not sure why the staff couldn't answer simple questions about their food. ‍‍‍ All in all, I doubt there will be a second visit to this restaurant. read more

Cheap, above Average Chinese eatery with various options on the menu! I am a regular here. Whenever am craving for Chinese, I usually end up eating here as it's close by and very pocket friendly. My favorites here are pot stickers, hot n sour soup, rolls, and chicken fried rice. Their spring rolls are also famous but I don't like them so much. Mostly they offer daily special meal under $6. You will find tons of options on the menu. From veggie to all sorts of protein. The place is clean and has casual sitting arrangement. The customer service is great. Orange peel beef has the best flavor and the perfect crispiness. 10/10 highly recommend. Sweet and Sour Pork was super tasty and the breading was perfect. I appreciate that they sauce was on the side ( I ordered to-go). 10/10 highly recommend Crab Rangoons was fried perfect and I liked that the shape was in a triangle because it made it really easy to eat. 10/10 highly recommended If you're in the area and want some good food...come here. Definitely a weird scene inside the restaurant with a side business selling furniture and glassware - there are a few tables to eat inside, but you probably want to get your food to go. First off, the food was pretty good so there is that. Compared to other Chinese Places in Tyler it does taste good. However, I will say this is place isn't the best inside. When first walking in the restaurant you're hit with a strong smell of old furniture. They have random pieces of furniture for sale inside the building. Reminded me of a thrift store. So other than that I would recommend getting take out from here and just not dining in. Update after eating here, I felt sick for two days after eating their food. I've read other reviews stating they have got sick from eating here as well but disregarded those comments. Will not be returning. read more

I'm so sorry to leave a negative review. That's not how I usually roll. Hoping this was just a bad night, because stuff happens, but this was more than just a little bit bad. I came here once before and was uncomfortable with the general disheveled feeling of the place, but I'm always a fan of a good hole in the wall so I tried it. It was... ok? Edible at any rate. And I'm not picky, having grown up with a mom who didn't cook and eating tv dinners almost every night as a kid. But we got takeout tonight and I hate to say it but it was truly awful. So bad I couldn't eat more than a few bites. Everything tasted like it had burnt fry oil that had been used for months on end without being changed out. We had three different entrees and they all tasted the same, with the same horrible rancid taste. We were very hungry so tried to keep eating, but it was just gross so I think I'll just go to bed now. I'm so sorry, I HATE leaving bad reviews! This restaurant was previously known as Peking Chinese Restaurant, which was located near 5th Street and Beckham. It was my favorite Chinese restaurant, and I had always thought they had closed, not relocated. It wasn't until I tried Poch's, several years later, that I learned this place is owned and run by the same folks that ran Peking. Whatever. The food is great and the prices are fair, and the service is really fast. It looks and feels like a garage sale is going on when you walk in. They really should correct this. When once beloved, family-owned & operated, Peking unexpectedly closed its doors (back in 2011), I was left heart-broken. No one could ever and would ever replace their soups, specials, egg fried rice, friendliness, customer driven, and humble business that procured a hot mustard able to send your sinuses to the moon. It was called: POCH'S RICE CAFE Poch's Rice Cafe opened under the original owner's of Peking. Apart from completely changing the name, address, and expanse in menu, also came no changes at all. The original recipes, freshness, value, quality of food, top-notch attention, and TASTE are the same and remembered. Poch's Rice Cafe can be found in a strip mall just down the road from its previous location. Its neighbor is (the admittedly younger, but never the less welcome, as any local business should be) fellow and second Burger Grind locale within the Tyler area. This place is simply amazing! Very unassuming storefront restaurant right off Loop 323, traditional sit down restaurant. The portions are generous and when you leave you will be well filled, if not taking some leftovers home. Highly recommend the orange chicken, which is soft and tender, and has a nice sweet and slightly spicy flavor. Warning on the hot mustard: it's very hot! Good but going generous you are responsible for what will happen when your sinuses evacuate. Prices are good and affordable for families. Tables are a bit small where chairs are but boots have bigger ones. Bottom line is I will be back! Tell your friends and neighbors about this plate because is frankly the best Chinese food in town. read more
