I ordered food waited for over a hour , asked bar staff where my food was , she took my card as I wanted to pay, then this thug of a barman came up to me and said I won't let you leave until I paid for my food, I said to him we'll go get it then , he dissappear then finally brought my food. So a few minutes ago, after the NHU football game me and my wife's family walked in the bar. After everyone got their drinks I'm waiting at the bar for a drink and a water, they give me a water (which by the way tasted like toilet water) they say that that's the only thing we're serving you, I asked them why and I didn't get a response until the manager came over and said "you had your head on the bar so you have to leave". I'm like "Whatever, I've had 4 hours of sleep, we traveled from SC and I am very tired, but you don't have to kick everyone out, I'll drink my water". They ended up taking everyone's drinks of off their hands and kicked us out. I don't know if my bad English was a factor in this situation but definitely this felt really disrespectful for everyone in our party even though I said I'll take a water. I wouldn't even consider going back to that place and seeing they have 3 stars on google is not a surprise at all. I own a business myself and I would never treat my customers like that.. read more

Plenty of good deals here, including $5 burgers on Tuesdays, which are excellent. Additionally, I would recommend their steak tips. Dude, get the haddock sandwich. Just do it. It's so good. There's nothing better in this world than a nice little bar that's been in the area for a long time that the town comes out to that serves good effing food. It's one of the joys of my life, seeing a thing like that. Libby's is that. The place has been in Durham, in some incarnation or another for what seems like forever. It's a bar with bar food. Fried stuff, burgers, salads, traditional New England-y entrees (re: haddock). You'd think "hey I've seen this place. This place seems normal," to which I say it's special. It's special because it embodies what it's supposed to be so well. It's what a chain sit-down restaurant is emulating. It's the real deal. And seriously, get the haddock sandwich. I also want to say that the buffalo wings are the best I've ever had in my entire life, and I'm a huge buffalo wings guy. They're what I remember falling in love with about wings when I was a kid. They are actually perfect. One thing though, and I will knock my review down a star for this: the bleu cheese dressing was just mayo with bleu cheese in it. Now, I know that that's a valid way to serve that dressing, but I think you need a little more buttermilk or milk or whatever you put in the mayo to make it into dressing. Coulda just been a choice on the cook's part, but it could have been better. Otherwise, PERFECTION. Actual perfection. I want to live inside these wings and become a wing creature. read more

Nachos were ok, not amazing. Service was HORRIBLE. Sat ourselves early on a Tuesday evening in the dinning room at a dirty table. No one came to clean it, no menu, no water, no silverware, no napkins, no service at all. The kind bus boy came over to make small talk and because we only wanted a plate of nachos he offered to tell our "waitress". We asked for little plates, or water, or napkins, pretty much anything that could help us eat our nachos but never were helped. When we were sitting at our empty table for about 30 minutes the waitress pretty much ran by and threw the check on the table. We asked to talk to manager and he was very rude, he did not apologize for her behavior or their lack of service and my entire table was appalled by his response as a "established manager". Needless to say we will not be returning. read more

My sister entered Libby's at 5:15 and they said that it was going to be an hour wait. So she waited for an hour with her friends and then at 6:10 she went back to Libby's and got there at 6:14. There was a 50/60 year old couple thar was in front of her in line and the couple asked the hostess how long the wait would be. The hostess said that there wasn't a wait and sat them right away. After the couple was seated my sister asked why they got seated before she did after she has been waiting an hour to be seated, and the hostess said that the couple was seated before her because they were older. My sister told the hostess that her family owns a restaurant and that that's not how it works and the hostess got the owner and the owner was even more disrespectful. read more

Went here for the specials on drinks. Didn't stay on the main floor, was mostly in the basement. DECOR: Main floor was a large bar, lots of TV's and tables. Definitely a sports bar, everyone was watching the Bruins and yelling at the TV's. We didn't stay long but the basement would be a great place to go to dance. They had tables everywhere, alot less crowded too, and there was a DJ and dance floor. DRINKS: Drinks were alright, very strong which is good I guess because you get your moneys worth. They were cheap too because we went when they had specials. Think it was only around 1$ a drink actually, at the time. I would definitely go back and stay longer next time so that I could dance in the basement. read more

Felt like the only game in town when I was there for the women's Frozen Four tournament. School was on break, there's not a big selection in Durham anyway and most everything else was closed. It's big and open, so the parents of a lot of the players gathered here. The food was serviceable, but over-priced, even for the east coast. I had a sandwich and there was a note to be able to add soup for a discounted price. But I got charged the full price. I had a sandwich, a soda and the soup and after tip, I paid more than $25. I'm sorry to say it's nothing impressive. We ordered a hamburger/side salad (was supposed to be without the bun but came with) and a turkey club + clam chowder (chowder was forgotten about and we didn't bother bringing it up). Granted, our waitress was new. But the food really wasn't that good. The burger was dry and tasteless, and even the salad was just meh. Plus, our table was dirty when we sat down and our waitress didn't bother wiping it off! I'm sure it's just fine as a local bar for the UNH students though. read more

We were visiting Durham to check out UNH and it turns out, pretty much everything is closed on a Monday. We didn't want pizza so we settled for this instead. It was a good choice. I had the grilled chicken and it was great! My parents had the clam chowder and although I didn't taste it, they said it was the best they've ever had. But otherwise, nothing else was impressive. Our service was a bit slow, but it was the server's first day on the job. I'd eat here again if anything else wasn't open. read more

Mediocre food at average prices. You are impressed when you walk into this college town restaurant the engulfs a bar. The place is clean and the menu looks great. The food reminds you of your friend's mom cooking, if she wasn't a good cook. The food really tastes like it was mode in someone's kitchen. I had the special grilled chicken and bacon wrap with ranch. It tasted just like I described it - bland with tons of ranch dressing and maybe bacon bits? The grilled wraps were served warm so be prepared for that. We didn't have room for the deserts but they sounded really yummy. Around 12:30 the bar called last call. At 12:38 the manager threatened to kick us out and call the cops if we didn't leave. I was with 2 friends and we had each had 2 drinks and a shot (aka we're not drunk. We're responsible, in our late 20's, and current restaurant managers. The whole experience was absurd and the manager had no idea what customer service is. It's obvious why a "college bar" is dead on a Friday night. If this were one of my managers, he would've been reprimanded instantly for a complete lack of understanding what the job entails. read more

Good bar food. Great wings and decent drink specials. Good place to take the family, but avoid Thursday-Saturday nights unless you get there early. Can fill up with students especially since Ballard's closed. Black and Blue Burger is very good. I recommend adding bacon. Came here while on vacation and really liked this place. I know that we weren't here during peak college time, so our experience was somewhat different then what it would be when college is in full swing. With that being said, the Chicken Nachos are on point. Everyone really enjoyed them and the portion size was huge. 4 of us couldn't finish them lol. 3 of the 4 of us ordered soup and salad for our main meal since the nachos were so big. All 3 of us agree that the salad and the dressing was great, however my mom and I ordered the French Onion soup and were not fans. The broth was very sweet almost like sugar had been added to it, and they didn't use Swiss Cheese with the soup. My dad ordered the Clam Chowder and really liked it! My husband ordered the Mac n Cheese and added Bacon & Jalapenos and really loved his dinner. The beer selection is good here too, my husband is huge IPA fan and they let him sample 3 different IPA beers and they actually had more then 1 summer shandy on hand which is for me was great. If ever I'm back in the area I would definitely come back to this place. read more

It's a college bar.. so your standards have to be set a little lower then if you were at any other restaurant. It probably will still smell like the dollar drinks from the night before.. and don't look too closely at the carpet. As a review based solely on the food.. it is great. The chicken fingers, nachos, pasta dishes.. are all my favorite. I honestly can't say I have had a "bad" meal here (remember the standards are lower). In all honesty though, the fries and chicken fingers are some of the best that I have had .. ever. That says a lot. read more

It is what it is. The service isn't great, but this isn't exactly a nice place. It's a bar geared towards UNH students. One thing I really like is the California Pita. Grilled Chicken, hommus, veggies and avocado. I've also had the chili and that's pretty good. If you have a choice, head to Portsmouth. But if you're limited to downtown Durham, you'll be able to find something here. Just don't expect anything great. read more

OK, I'm going to give this place a shout out because it definitely isn't getting the love it deserves. I am a UNH graduate and have lived in the coummunity area for the past 15 years. I have been to this restaurant at least 40 times. I will admit, that my experience is either lunch or dinner by 6 PM. But for these experiences, I have always found the food to be excellent. My wife is a bit of a haddock expert and she thinks the fish and chips are about the best around. I have had some meals here that are amongst the best I have had in the entire Seacoast area. I definitely disagree with the greasy bar foot comments. I think they do a great job and the food is always excellent. I always look forward to their daily specials because they are typically fantastic. Sometimes I have a hard time choosing which one to get. I guess the food they serve is right up my alley and I always sit on the side without the bar. So, for me, five stars. read more

Let me begin by stating that this is a college bar. If you have a family, please proceed to evacuate your children promptly by 7pm. Why? Because at this time every UNH Wildcat over 21 funnels through the front doors for Beat the Clock specials. Be ready to fight like a beast on animal planet for your drinks. After attracting the attention of the bartender, you may feel the urge to buy 4+ drinks at a time when you realize they cost a dollar for the next ten minutes. And that's why the tables look like a pincushion of dirty shirlys and whisky sours. All of a sudden, you feel the bar start to shake as if from an violent earthquake. They open the downstairs at 10 pm and the dance floor fills up like a minifridge in Williamson and Christensen. If you go anywhere in Durham when you become an "adult", go to Libbys. read more

I have been here twice while traveling on business in Durham, New Hampshire. Both times, the service was quick and friendly, and the food was good for the price point. The place was not amazingly crowded or noisy, but I went on weeknights during the summer, so UNH was out of session. All in all, I liked it. Would go again. read more
