They are only open on Sundays so make sure to make it early to get all these great products. My favorite reason to go is to interact with the workers. My favorite employee is Pierina; she would always have a smile on her face and was always available to help. When I didn't have cash, she would help me with the debit and credit tokens. I have not seen her in a while so I am wondering what happened to her since she has been working there every Sunday since I can remember. I will try to locate her at other green markets.

One can find anything from flowers to herbs, spices, fruits, veggies, apple cider, Korean pastes, free samples, vegan baked goods, breads, cookies, fish, duck and other poultry, pig products, beef, assorted mushrooms, tamales (the one closer to 78th street is best, but if you're up for a sweet or dessert tamale, go to the lady on 80th), booze, syrups, honeys, NYC groups that take used clothing and textiles, compost, and a recycling book stand where anyone can take, swap, or donate books. It's also one block away from Travers Park which was recently updated. Great place to go for a stroll and enjoy. Happy shops!

It takes place every Sunday from 8am-2pm. The vendors are set up next to MacDonald Park off Queens Blvd, and part of the service road and 70th Ave are closed to cars which makes it nice to stroll through. The greenmarket is open year-round, so even in the winter you can still find items like squash, apples, leafy greens, herbs, eggs, and milk.

There's tons and tons of park space of all sorts in the immediate vicinity (outdoor BBQ, dog runs, track and field, or just plain grass lawns with plenty of trees and open), which makes this a fun experience for an hour or two rather than just quickly buying and leaving. You can easily buy some supplies at the market and have a snack or picnic steps away. This place is around all year I believe but we really enjoy coming in the Fall, as there's great options here for hot cider and donuts, fresh fruits and vegetables, delicious cheese and milk (some of the best Eggnog I've had is sold each year at this market), and lots of other stuff to peruse from while on a leisurely weekend stroll. We live over in Queens, and there's some half-decent similar markets around in that part of town, but it's just nicer to bike or commute over to Greenpoint and enjoy this Farmers Market on a Saturday. Flower beds sit snug in close proximity to the ground and are closely huddled together leaving them exposed for damage from a slight of step. The Greens family is fully represented, a Ware Rabbits dream come true, I gravitated immediately to the leeks, how I love them so. We purchased many items from the farmstand tgat had little or nothing to do with greens. Sourdough bread, hot sauce, honey, carrots and more all came home with me and will all work their way on to my Sunday menu.

I finally did this summer and what a wonderful thing to have in the city! Come visit them on Saturdays when the market is open and you can walk around freely in the farm. I recommend getting coffee and a snack from downstairs to take it up to the roof and enjoy in view of the city and of this farm. And of course, seasonal produce can be bought here just like other farmers markets. The selection is just limited in comparison. They also have a CSA of you're interested.

The juice they make at the juice bar inside says no sugar or water added but the ones from the outside only say no preservatives, color or ice. I didn't think much of it till later that the watermelon granita tasted really sweet like they put sugar or something in it. We went to the market connected to the Apple House and bought a 20lb seeded watermelon...and I made watermelon juice with nothing added... tasted very clean, naturally sweet...really delicious..better than anything premade that is cold pressed for $$$. $5 for a small.
