There are over 50 vendors from regional producers, bringing baked goods, coffee and tea, flowers, candles, herbs & spices, condiments, meats and charcuterie, dairy and cheeses, all sorts of seasonal fruits and vegetables, bath and beauty items, specialty foods like honey, kimchi, wine & beer. There's also a section of local artists selling things like tshirts, knickknacks, art pieces like paintings and collages. Regardless if I buy anything, I just love walking around the market looking at all the fresh, colorful produce, thinking of what delicious dishes could be made from the plethora of ingredients. I've been coming to this farmers market for almost 2 decades!! It has everything but the best time to come in my opinion is in the fall before thanksgiving. The fruit and veggies are always so fresh and there's so much to pick from for great prices. Yes farmer's markets are more pricey but if you think about it it's really not when you can get so much more and better quality! There's a great variety of goods not just food. A Monday at Union Square Greenmarket I'll Never Forget I wandered into the Union Square Greenmarket on a Monday and left with a heart full of joy (and arms full of sunflowers). This place is pure magic. The vibe? Electric. The smells? Fresh bread, herbs, and summer peaches. The people? Warm, passionate, and full of stories. I spent the morning browsing stalls bursting with color--crisp veggies, handmade jams, cheeses that should come with a warning label for deliciousness. I bought the most stunning sunflowers that looked like sunshine in a bouquet. But the best part came at the end of the day. One vendor was packing up, and he had a bucket of leftover sunflowers. An older woman walked by and asked how much they were. Without missing a beat, he handed them to her--for free. Her face lit up like a kid on Christmas morning. I've been coming to this farmers market in Union Square for the better part of four years, it's great having an open air market in such a central location. The vendors here are regional farmers, there's great representation across various goods, from fruit and vegetables, to baked goods, to honey, to wine and whiskey, and on and on. I don't come for all of my usual groceries, but I like buying fresh bread from the Bread Alone stand once every week or so. And I'll treat myself to fresh, locally grown produce or a pastry from time to time. Prices aren't unreasonable for some fresh goods, and it would take quite a few visits before getting bored with everything that's on offer. This was my first time shopping at the Union Square Greenmarket. My friends posted pictures from this market on social media and that made me want to go and check it out. I shopped here this past Saturday and had a great time. There were so many vendors/ stands selling honey, mint iced tea, organic vegetables and fruits and flowers. I bought a small basket of purple potatoes for $6-7 and one bunch of Amaranths for $6 from Luna Family Farms. They look so good in my place. I'm looking forward to shopping here again so I can support these farmers. Every vendor I visited was helpful and explained all of the prices. The service was great. I wish it was a bit more organized but other than that, I loved walking to all of the stands and checking out what they were selling. read more

Nice weekend shopping at the market. I was passing by to subway but because it has so many interesting stuffs at the market, so I spent about 30 minutes over there and finally got something I like. I love the green market. It is so wonderful, supporting local businessman, and smaller companies and fresh produce. My bag was super heavy leaving this place. Got bourbon, carrots, salsa, the garlic pesto, zucchini, maple syrup. Such a wonderful place. I don't think I'll get honey or maple syrup from anywhere else. Oh I also got sour cherry jelly. I may be biased, considering my apartment is a mere three-minute walk from Union Square and I used to pass by every day for many years on my commute to/from work. In my experience, this is as good as farmers markets get on the east coast. Admittedly, we don't have the variety of fruits and vegetables that my parents do at their weekly farmers market in La Jolla. Of all of the greenmarkets I've visited throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn, the Union Square location's open most days of the week, with Saturdays being their flagship market. My personal faves include mushroom from Bulich Farms, Knoll Krest's eggs and pastas, and PE & DD Seafood's sea scallops. I also regularly snag pork butts from Roaming Acres (go early; they routinely sell out) and huge cuts of brisket from Grazin' Angus to throw in my sous vide. Although the greenmarket's open year-round, it really flourishes in the warmer seasons. Beginning in late spring, ramps show up. My friends now tease me mercilessly around this time of year, because they know as soon as those wild spring onions pop up, I can't stop gushing about them for weeks. Summer brings out decadently sweet peaches; crisp, refreshing watermelon; and bountiful heirloom tomatoes. You're pretty limited on fresh veg in the winter, but carrots and root vegetables make for great roasts along with the high quality meats. Plus, the Greenmarket team does a phenomenal job at programming. I haven't intentionally attended any events, but they routinely put on cooking demos, book signings, and more. Whoever's handling their social media must be inspired. Last, but not least, I make a weekly stop to pitch my compost at this location. The LES Ecology Center has a food scrap dropoff site here every day the market's open and I probably shave off 50% of my total household garbage by freezing and composting my coffee grounds, eggshells, and more. In short, the greenmarket is probably my favorite perk of living in the neighborhood and Union Square is so much richer for its presence! read more

The vendors are very knowledgeable about their products and you can find some of the best qualities and deals right here. What's unique is that they're open year round and not just on weekends! They're open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 8am to 6pm! This is so awesome especially since so many other markets are open for a very limited time and season. I went to the Union Square Greenmarket on a Saturday in July and was impressed with the number and variety of vendors, selling fresh produce, meats and seafood, cheese, bread, flowers, jams, maple syrup and honey, and so much more!! Most of the vendor's prices are reasonable given the quality of the food, but I do recommend shopping around to make sure you're getting the best deals. I was able to try a few samples, such as iced tea and popcorn, which always makes me happy! I purchased sauce from City Saucery, a company that makes sauces using upcycled tomatoes from local produce farms. This was definitely one of my favorite vendors at the market! I do wish there were more vendors who are local cooks and bakers selling speciality prepared foods/meal, as I was hoping to pick up an easy lunch or dinner, but didn't find anything that fit the bill. read more

I came down here because my son wanted a bottle of wine from Chateau Renaissance. The man who helped me was lovely! He's only taking preorders, but I showed him the text from my son, and he took pity on me :) I also bought a sourdough baguette and some gluten-free treats. Whenever I visit Manhattan on a weekend, the Union Square Greenmarket is one of my go to destinations. Over the years, surviving past COVID lockdown, this market continues to be an extraordinary place to visit for anyone who appreciates food and fine goods. My previous review sung the praises of the food you can buy here, and that hasn't changed. The produce is still beautiful and fresh. The ginger snap cookies at one stand are to die for and I have enjoyed more than one or two bottles of wine purchased at the market with a meal at home. I have also really loved buying items like lavender pouches to freshen up the scene inside my car and soaps at the honey stand (the smaller one). This is also a great place to see a huge parade of doggos. People tend to walk their dogs through here and you see all sorts of adorable critters large and small. Union Square Greenmarket is a joy and I am so happy it is still a focal point of activity on the weekends. You definitely want to check it out! read more

There's so many things available that you can't purchase in stores. I keep thinking about the local honey in the cute bear jar. Although it's a bit pricey I'm told it's good for allergies. A tiny bit each day of your local source honey is supposed to help. I'm going back for that! They also have the Compost Collections on Fridays. I'll get my daughter to come since she's got Fridays off for a while. She's very into compost and recycling. I raised her to be environmentally friendly. I'm glad they have a booth here. Hands down...one of my all time favorite farmer's markets. I have been shopping here for years. For the widest variety of everything farm grown and the freshest produce, Union Square cannot be beat. They are what I'd describe an L shaped market that is quite extensive and carries the most delightful variety of just about everything. It is extra fun when they are seasonal---think Fiddleheads, zucchini blossom flowers and warm apple cider. True story, I was shopping with my mother here years ago as we often did and she needed to buy zucchini blossom flowers to make her delicious Italian fritters. Not on that day. Just as she was going to purchase some, the person behind the counter informed us that they were all spoken for--by Emeril Lagasse!!! He bought the entire lot of them! Despite this, we took the opportunity to say hello to him. This market is not only about produce. At Union Square Greenmarket , you will discover unique homemade jams, bread, olive oils, cheese, spirits and so much more. There is also a large flower selection for planting when Spring rolls around. The selection of what is available varies since they set up shop a few times a week. You should also make a point to ask the vendor about their days and hours during the week. It is always changing. You will always find gorgeous heirloom tomatoes, fresh greens, variety of apples and the list goes on and on. There are many green markets around the 5 boroughs, including where i live in Brooklyn--however, Union Square reigns supreme for such a large space and an abundance of fresh produce/more. We came across the market area in Union Square Park. It was a beautiful day, and even better to walk around to check vendors and the farmers market area. Checked out the Oak Grove Plantation tent - it smelled and looked awesome. The small and large potted plant varieties were great. I liked as you browsed in the tent, each plant or herb had small facts written to let the public know what was helpful information it can be used whether in food, medicine, or any remedy. There were other options there too such as food. Popcorn kernels packages, homemade apple sauce, Pickled eggs and more. We got a Pineapple Sage, Pineapple mint, Berries and cream mint, Strawberry mint and Lavender. The Lavender was in a big pot, the other four are in smaller pots. Each plant looked so fresh and vibrant. Payment options were either by cash or card. Paying card there is an extra charge. If you don't provide your own bag, they have bags given with an additional charge too. There is no store front on their farm in New Jersey, just the farm itself. Highly recommend checking this tent out. Bring your own bag overall when you walk through the market. Staff was friendly, looking forward to planting our new additions! read more

This is the only place I know of where you can get Tremblay Apiaries LLC honey aside from traveling upstate to Van Etten. This is my all time favorite honey! Tea sold at the market is also really good. The Greenmarket is definitely a cool place to stroll around any time of the year. A farmer's market in the middle of the city. One of the best ways to support your local farms and businesses without paying a corporation like Whole Foods (still guilty of shopping there for produce). I am a frequent customer of Migliorelli Farm as they located in my hometown and I personally know the family. Does not mean I get discounts and that's okay! There is also a composting station for you to dump compostable items into a bin, which is pretty cool. There's an EBT tent so looks like you can use food stamps to purchase produce. I love this farmer's market. Operating not only in weekends but 3 weekdays too rain or shine. Some of the nicest farmers and vendors are there for hours selling quality produce, speciality items and breathtakingly beautiful flowers. They also have a great relationship with restaurants and chefs who frequent the market. And a mission to reduce food waste by giving unsold produce to non-profit organizations fighting food insecurity. Some vendors have even partnered with the Too Good To Go app since this summer. I buy a new bundle of flowers from here almost every week. Affordable prices - sometimes only $5/bundle for a specific kind and $8/bouquet with a variation of 4-6 kinds. I have been coming here for years, first as a child and the now as an adult. While the prices are not necessarily low on some products, most are reasonable. The vendors use to be here everyday but know the schedule seems to be Mon, Wed. Fri. And Saturday unless its a holiday or bad weather.
