I've been holding off on writing a review of this dealer for reasons I'll explain below. We bought a 2018 Ford F250 from them on June 7th. The process was fine, CJ was our salesman and he was easy to deal with. We paid cash so didn't have any experience with the financing department. A week later the AC quit working, and the check engine light came on. It was running rough and jerking. We took it to our mechanic who said the code indicated a misfiring ignition coil. We were really frustrated and reached out to them. Yes, we knew we had bought a used vehicle and yes we declined the extended warranty. But to have this happen in one week didn't seem right. Jarret from their service department replied and asked us to bring it in. We did, they recharged the AC system and replaced the ignition coil at no charge. So far so good, the AC is working and the truck is running smoothly with no warning lights even after pulling a travel trailer to Ocean Shores and back. So I can recommend this dealer, they stood behind what they sold. read more

The property is huge, spacious, well designed, filled with a terrific variety of lightly used vehicles (all the way from gas to hybrid to electric), and pricing is highly competitive (I was researching a hybrid Audi with low miles, way below current market). Second-honest repairs. Andrew, who runs the service department, has automotive experience that goes back decades, domestic and foreign, and the repair staff are really thorough in their approach. My used Jaguar was fixed in one day, with a minimum of fuss, and $1800 cheaper than a local car shop had bid-free loaner car, friendly, and honest. What's not to love? read more

The quote was $340.00 for the fuel filter change ($200 labor for a 5 minute job and $140 for the filter I purchased from Amazon for $20 (Yes OEM) The oil change was quoted for an additional $200. I got them both done for $200 at a different place. They used to be reasonable but I won't be going back. read more

My husband and I have brought our cars in here a couple times. My biggest complaint normally is they don't care about getting your car back to you same day even when they say they will. We won't be going back after my last service a couple weeks ago. They flushed the AWD fluid to fix an issue for $900. My car started squeaking oddly within a day or two after their "fix" so I took it to Audi Tacoma a week later. They looked at the fluid and said the service was done incorrectly. All the fluid Liberty Bay Auto had put in had burnt because they didn't perform the maintenance right. Audi had to pull fluid out of the system to make sure it had caused metal shavings to get into my car. Luckily I came in in time or it would have been even more expensive! Audi fixed the fluid for another $1,100 (on top of the $900 I paid to LBA). My car had the original issue fixed by Audi Tacoma but I have to bring it in again to them because the squealing that started after LBA has gotten worse and worse. If you have an Audi, save your car and money and take your car to a shop that knows how to work on them. They nearly did major damage to my car read more

After taking our vehicles to Liberty Bay Auto for service this past 20+ years, and having purchased 3 vehicles from them, it is clear that this small town business decided to change their strategy. Gone is the customer service we used to know and appreciate. They've decided to go with the "You can't trust us" strategy. Doesn't seem like a winner - especially in a small town where reputation, referrals and repeat business are critical. When my vintage Mercedes needed an assessment for a couple issues that had arisen, they decided to quote me a mind blowing figure of $6,000! Refusing to bite, I decided to find someone who specialized in vintage vehicles and was thrilled when I found "Sam" (he even worked at THE Phil Smart Mercedes dealer in Seattle back in the day). My car was totally smitten when she saw his garage - it was so pristine you could have eaten off the floor. After having my car for less than a day Sam handed me a bill for $713. I shared my quote from Liberty Bay Auto with him and he said some of the other suggested "future" maintenance looked like "snake oil." I honestly had not planned on writing this review - until my neighbor told me a similar experience she had just recently when she took her car to Liberty Bay Auto, AND when I received a voice message from them telling me it was time to bring my special car in for service! I don't need to state the obvious - but I will. Liberty Bay Auto has forever lost our business. However, we definitely came out on the winning side because not only did my very special car find her forever doctor, my husband and I also now had confirmation of what we had started to suspect in recent years - Liberty Bay Auto can't be trusted. read more

The sales staff and receptionist for the service department were friendly and very responsive. They worked with me and helped communicate all of what the technicians were doing behind the scenes. However, the integrity of the service technicians seems questionable. I won't get into all of the nitty gritty, so all I'll mention is a few things that really stuck out to me. Firstly, my initial quote skyrocketed in price due to labor. They had a reasonable response for it, but the work they performed was not all that laborious from talks with my auto body mechanic back where I'm from. Secondly, they broke pieces of the car off and attempted to sway me into replacing an entire engine for it. It's an older car ('94 Miata) so I can understand their concern, but for an alternator mount, I could have welded the ear back on myself. Of course they still charged me labor costs for the workaround repair for a problem they caused. Lastly, they left a bunch of things on the passenger seat. They disassembled the steering column and left the pieces out for my buddy and I to put back in ourselves. On top of that, one of the techs left a whole slew of car keys in there. They were unattended inside of a convertible for who knows how long. I returned them to the first tech I saw before heading out. TL;DR: If you're coming in to sell or purchase a car, the atmosphere seems pleasant and the sales staff seem to be rock solid. If you're coming in for repairs, be cautious. read more

Brought my car to have check engine light diagnostic. I was expecting it to take couple hours but after the end of the second day I called to check on things, she said she would talk with the tech person and get rite back with me, but never did. Now it's Monday 3 o'clock I call again same lady says she will talk to tech person and get back with me i couldn't believe it she did it again. Complete disrespect not once but twice. Maybe it is just this one incompetent employee and it is what it is so I was just going to let it be but then I got a call from her the following day and that is when I decided not to let it be. After 7 days, two calls never returned they come up with a report that says I need a sensor that will cost me 1,100.00 before the can run a diagnostic test. For that report they charged me 500.00. these people are not honest. The sensor I need is a 50.00 sensor and would take under 30 minuets to install. In short 7 days no communication charged me 500.00 for a report that says I need a 1100.00 sensor before they can diagnose the check engine light. read more

Bait and Switch: Advertised a 2005 Prius with 32,000 miles for $12,999. I drove in to take a look and was told "oh we sold that car weeks ago -- but it keeps coming up on our computer". "Let us show you other cars". Lie and try and get more foot traffic. I drive by this location and laugh they are in they 60's -- they keep hoods upon the cars. This was done in the 60's because men wanted to show off the engine. Beefy car days. Today keeping the hood popped in the sun ruins the rubber, plastic and wires, rain ruins the electronic systems. Cars have hoods for a good reason. I love Poulsbo but this place is a museum taking advantage of being the only shop in town. Off my car search. read more

I just had an oil change done recently, and within a week, I checked the oil--it's already extremely dirty. There's no way fresh oil should look like that after just a week. To make matters worse, they didn't even replace the oil filter, even though I paid for it. Save yourself the trouble--don't bring your car to Liberty Bay Auto in Poulsbo. It's not worth the risk. I always thought Liberty Bay Auto was an honest auto repair center. We took our Audi TT in which we bought last fall. They asked if we had been here and my husband said no but the prior owner had. We needed an oil change and when he picked up the car they said we need new tires and all 4 brake pads were at 3 or 4 mm. My husband took it this morning to Les Schwab in Poulsbo and they said we have 5 mm on all 4 brake pads and our tires are fine too. It was very disappointing to realize they are not as trustworthy as I thought. Just do your own due diligence. read more

Such a great company, with employees who really go out of their way to help. I took our car there when I caught the front panel on a bush and pulled it loose. They fixed it and cleaned up the scrub marks on the panel at no charge. Took the car bag for what I thought would be a brake job, which they diagnosed as tie rod ends and other issues. The brakes were fine. The repair was done in two days and completely fixed the issue. Highly recommend them. read more

He was super to work with: listened to me, understood my needs. He didn't tell me what he wanted to sell. He asked me what I wanted. A rare experience indeed. So nice and helpful to work with. Today was the first with Liberty Bay Auto. I bought four vehicles from them the first in 2005. I have my vehicle service there. And today I brought my vehicle in for about $1000 worth of services. What they didn't tell me was that they recently implemented a 3% credit card fee. Now I'm a senior and I work part time and I get paid per service so I don't even get an hourly wage. And they took over $27 of my hard earned money when I would've been happy to go to the bank and have given them cash because $27 is a lot of money for me. Well, I recommend them? Yes. Will I still go to them? Yes. But before warned to take cash with you otherwise you're just giving away your hard earned money. read more

Just got new tires and was referred by the tire shop to get an alignment here at a discounted rate. I'm walking back to the shop and I see my truck pulling out of the parking lot and the tech lights up my brand new tires and peels out of the parking lot like a bat out of hell. I went into the lobby pissed and the service manager apologized and said he'd talk to the tech. I watched the tech come out and ask the cashier who I was and she pointed at me. He looked up, laughed and turned around and went back to the garage. No apology or accountability for abusing someone else's property. The service manager came out and was apologetic and further discounted the rate. Said he talked to the tech and he had no excuse as to why he did it. I take pride in taking care of my things and I am livid and extremely disappointed that an 55+ year old man has the audacity to Ferris bueller customers cars with zero remorse. They were not helpful. I won't be buying a vehicle from them. I'd buy private or from a front-line dealer (not that they're necessarily better). These second-tier dealers often get vehicles that the front-line dealers reject. Plus, they take consignments, which shows they aren't invested in their inventory. No thanks. read more

The Pandemic has taken another once-great Kitsap County business (Liberty Bay Auto) and turned it into a mush of really bad customer service. Purchased a 2004.5 Kia Spectra there in 2005, and had regular service done there since. Not anymore (details from me if queried). If you feel the need to go or return to Liberty Bay Auto in the future, I would suggest you avoid the auto-service department, or even the business totally. They have been destroyed by the pandemic and very bad choices in managerial directions. There's MUCH better auto sales/service locations out there... just gotta know and search. read more

My Explorer was beyond dirty...I've tried vacuuming it myself, wiping down all the surfaces...it looks ok but can never get all the dirt or hair out. I even had straw stuck to the backseat liners. I've had a truck detailed in Bremerton at an auto detail company, not a good job. I thought I would take a risk and have Liberty Bay Auto take on this enormous job. They already do my oil changes, so why not. They kept the vehicle for two days....I could not believe my eyes when I picked it up. It was just as clean as when I bought it. Found a great SUV for sale at Liberty Bay Auto Center. Drove half a day to buy the vehicle for CASH. Unfortunately the local branch of our bank closed in Poulsbo, so I couldn't get a cashier's check. The dealer said they would not check my credit, and would not affect our rating. At some point they asked for my Social Security Number. Not thinking they would use it to try and get loans for the car I was buying for cash, I gave it to them. I found out later after getting about 10 rejection notices that the DID try to secure a loan for the SUV. I KNOW my credit rating was not sufficient to buy the car on a loan, WHICH IS WHY I WANTED TO PAY CASH. If you plan to buy a car for cash from these snakes, DON'T GIVE THEM YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER! I called after getting about 5 of the letters declining the loan I DID NOT REQUEST and the dealer said "they told me they were going to try to get a loan". They NEVER said this to me, because I would have told them it was useless and would only be detrimental to my credit report. THEY APPARENTLY DIDN'T LISTEN OR CARE. read more

We went to Liberty Bay to look at a lower cost (about $5K) used car. were EXTREMELY high pressured to only look at ~$15k used cars that qualified for 1st time buyer/no credit financing. Definite bait & switch. We repeatedly tried to leave, yeah ... that didn't happen. When we questioned why all of the cars our daughter was being shown were so far over suggested Kelley Blue Book pricing we were told KBB didn't apply to their cars because the car's at Liberty come with free lifetime oil changes and were so thoroughly mechanically inspected. When processing our daughter's credit app Liberty tried to repeatedly get our social security #s & signatures.... uh, no! Fortunately due to weekend and daughter not having current vehicle insurance, she did not leave the lot with a vehicle. THANK GOD! Our daughter did pay a "100% refundable no questions asked" deposit of $1,000. Not sure if you have to request the refund in 48 or 72 hours - but the approval process for financing would literally take up the entire window to request your deposit back. Fortunately Dad caught read that fine print and had that changed... Liberty tried to slip it back in again, had to stand our ground... clock didn't start ticking until Liberty gave her an answer on finding first. As expected, in spite of Liberty Bay's assurances to the contrary, our daughter was denied financing due to lack of credit - surprise! When we asked to test drive the $5k car (STILL on their website) it was supposedly not available for showing. Husband & I decided to co-sign for our daughter since we live out of state and didn't want her driving an unreliable vehicle. We called our credit union to set up the financing & figured out daughter could just one if Liberty Bay's first time buyer cars - except the credit union refused to finance ANY of the "first time" cars Liberty had to offer - even with our daughter's $1,000 down payment, BECAUSE LIBERTY BAY'S CARS WERE ALL SO EXCESSIVELY OVERPRICED!!!! We had our daughter request her deposit back - yeah, definitely not a no questions asked process. They had the nerve to insist we switch financing from our credit union to their lenders because then the price wouldn't be an obstacle!!! It took a lot of pushing but daughter did get her deposit back. She also got the same model car as one of Liberty's first time deals - only it had fewer miles & is a higher trim model with all of the bells & whistles... oh yeah, it was also almost $5,000 cheaper!!! (Thank you Olympia Jeep!!!) TLDR; Liberty Bay high pressure sales + bait & switched our 18 yo from a $5k car to a $15K car because it qualified for no-credit-established financing. Mom & Dad arranged financing through credit union after Liberty Bay's in house financing failed. C/U wouldn't finance any of Liberty Bay's vehicles because they were too far above actual value. Liberty Bay continued their shenanigans by resisting returning daughter's deposit & insisting we (the parents) switch financing from C/U to them! Got sweet car from dealership in Oly that was $5k less & better car. read more

I used to like this dealer. This time my experience was definitely not up to par. The young salesman that I worked with seemed like he just wanted to sell me the one car and didn't really show me others. When I ask about them talk the others down. While they were assessing the value of my car they ran into a problem. They never brought me my keys back and after waiting 20 minutes found out that they had quit working on the estimate and we're just sitting in their office messing around on a computer. It wasn't until I went up there and asked for my keys and how it was going that he said he thought I had left. No one seemed to know where my keys were and the gentleman that had been helping me was on the phone with another customer. I didn't know we were done. He said he was going in to check on something with the manager. Overall bad experience will not ever be buying a car there. read more

Went by earlier today to get my low beam light bulb replaced for my front right head lamp. They did it for free no charge because I purchased a light bulb from a different place. The guy who helped me even fixed my left head light bulb because it was loose. No wonder I couldn't see sh/t at night. To sum it up. Service was friendly and they were able to fix it last minute. Told me I needed a $10,000 transmission repair and that they reprogrammed my system. Took my car to a transmission shop that did the programming again and confirmed everything was fine for only $300. And after buying a high end car 2 years ago, I thought they would be honest. Not the case, I guess. This will make an interesting story for all my nurse and vet friends. I brought my two vehicles in for routine maintenance. Eric was the Service Writer. The appointments were made for me on days in the same week as when I called. Eric was waiting for me when I arrived and listened to my concerns with the minor repair & maintenance issues. He made some very good recommendations. The vehicles were repaired and serviced in a very timely manner and a shuttle was available for me if I needed it. When I picked up the vehicles they had been washed and vacuumed by the Auto Center. Watta great surprise. The prices for the repairs were fair and Eric, again, made some additional recommendations for when I bring the cars in next time. More importantly, I felt confident that the appropriate work was professionally completed, and, there were no suggestions that I should consider for "unnecessary" items and repairs. I'd like to add that this facility is very clean and the waiting area is extremely comfortable. The coffee pot is always filled and they have a refrigerator with creamers and other drinks. This auto repair business is, by far, the nicest, cleanest and most efficient auto center I have ever been to (and I've been to dozens and dozens in my lifetime). I've tried to make this my trusted shop as I love poulsbo and have already spent thousands in repairs here, but have recently been very disappointed not only in repair work but customer service. I sent two emails to the service department with no reply, so I felt it appropriate to share my experience here. My last email with no reply: I have another concern I wanted someone to be aware of regarding this same service. I hope this reaches the right person. I just went on a long drive and my step dad checked my engine at the halfway point. He found a large wrench hanging off my engine from this last service at liberty bay. It was close to the fan and if it flew off would have been extremely dangerous. I brought it in and was not offered any acknowledgment for the inconvenience or most importantly for the safety issue this could have caused with me and my four year old child in the car. My check engine light also was not turned off after this repair and I was told to return. But after another trip I took there, it immediately came back on. I was told it's fine, but I am very worried I won't know when my car is breaking down. It is still on. I see the value in supporting local businesses especially in Poulsbo. But, as a woman with little understanding of vehicle repairs and assuming the people working on my car want to keep me safe, I'm let down, and I haven't been able to develop trust with your organization. To conclude, I hope this helps someone when making a choice for vehicle repairs or maintenance. I am still driving a car with the check engine light on and cross my fingers literally every time I drive, especially when my son is in the car. read more
