First time to Liberty Call Distilling (LCD), and the sad part is we've patronized Maggie's next door for years never once thinking to come here. Our loss, as LCD is great! They were busy during a lunch on Friday especially their outdoor patio. Vibe is great here, staff while a little short staffed were amazing, and their food & drinks were outstanding! We shared their chicken wings and burger (added a fried egg to the burger) and chose regular fries from their side options. We both tried their whisky flight, and they were able to apply the $8 lunch entree price for any of their signature drinks towards one of our whisky flights. We spoke to Bill, one of the owners and he said their top two menu items are their burger, followed by their steak sandwich. I guess we'll have to try the steak sandwich at our next visit. I want to give special kudos to Bill and LCD. Not only are all their drinks, food, and service worth praising, LCD is very supportive and a huge fan of our first responders, public safety personnel, as well our military. I personally know they've been a part of numerous fundraisers for law enforcement, and have made donations to law enforcement for fallen officers, and have collaborated often with the First Responders Whisky Society. For some reason, I thought the steak special was on Thursday, but nope--it's actually Tuesday. Still ordered the steak because, honestly, why not treat myself? It's $25 at regular price with no Old Fashioned (sad face), but holy cow was it deeeeeelicious! Get the peppercorn sauce. TRUST ME. That sauce deserves its own Instagram account. We came here before my company partying December to try some of their menu items. I got a mocktail and he got a cocktail to start with. I was between a 2 and a 3 star rating for this place, but I ultimately decided to go with a 2 because the service and what I ordered fell short. We went on a Tuesday during HH, but it wasn't busy yet. Goes back to that table and takes a napkin away. We make eye contact again and I'm just like does she not see me? Because, again, she ignores our continued eye contact until the person I was dinning with got her attention. Overall, the price and portion size of the place is good. I dined in last night for their Tuesday night $20 steak special. Mannn let me tell you! WORTH IT! I made reservations and they were booked out 2 weeks in advance. I read that they can get packed especially during steak night so I didn't want to risk waiting awhile for a table. It looks like it can get pretty packed and the atmosphere here (like others said) is more of a drinking/bar/eating place. There's tvs around and its inside a garage warehouse building so it can get cold. The service was as good as it can get with it being packed and only 2-4 servers. We had to ask them a couple times for things but very understandable since it was super busy and not enough of them. They were all very nice but just busy. So the Tuesday $20 steak includes a 12 oz New York strip steak, a side, and an alcoholic beverage! You can't beat that anywhere! There are other entrees for $20 that includes a side and an alcoholic drink as well if you don't want steak. But that's the star of the night! They have happy hour and other specials during the week too. On Tuesdays, happy hour ends at 5pm which is when the steak night starts until 8pm. Make reservations! My family all ordered the steaks which were all cooked perfectly to our desired preference. We got both sauces; peppercorn and veal which were both good and complimented the steaks. We all got different sides of fries, mashed potatoes, and mac and cheese that were all surprisingly just as good! We also ordered the tri tip nachos and wings. The wings were tasty my son enjoyed them. The nachos were good as well; not salty or bland. It did lack some heat so I had to ask for hot sauce in which they brought out a bottled hot sauce and their verde sauce which made it much better. Their old fashioned is strong! Finally made it! Located in a little food row across from Northgate lies Liberty Call Distillery. It looked like parking could be a challenge, but luckily for me, I ubered. I've yet to make it for their $20 steak night, but since I was planning on going to a jazz show in the area, I figured it'd be a great opportunity to give Liberty Call a try, and I'm glad I did. Upon walking in, I was greeted and told to sit anywhere I'd like. I always love sitting at the bar, especially at brewpubs, as you typically get more attentive service, and people are often more social and chatty there. I come for the food and drinks, but I greatly enjoy meeting new people, and I'm always up for some good banter. The first thing I noticed was that the bar seats are much too low for the bar; it would make a bit of a challenge for shorter people or those with small torsos. I can only imagine that they don't want to invest in new bar stools, because it's obvious these aren't the ones. There's only a few larger tables, so if you're in a big group, you may end up having to push several tables together, which seemed like a regular occurrence here. I opted for the Cherry Smash, which was still $9 on happy hour, as I'm a big fan of cherries. The drink was just okay, and although I ordered 2 more after that, I'd probably opt for something else next time as there wasn't much cherry flavor to the smash. My boy got a draft cocktail, I believe $7 on HH, that was 19% abv and delicious. I'd probably get that next time. I ordered the famous cashew wings, $8 on HH, and the burger, also $8 on HH. I asked for the wings to be extra crispy and that they were; they had a nice little sweet tang, and were very delicious. The burger was a double with cheese, and it also had a beautiful onion ring on top. The burger wasn't anything to write home about, but it wasn't bad by any means. It had a nicely toasted garlic buttered bun, and was served with bbq sauce on the side. I wish they had asked how I prefer my burger to be cooked, as the burger was served well done. Myself and my two friends were excited about trying this place because the reviews were great but let me tell you, we were beyond disappointed. Where do I even start? 1. The service was horrible. A girl helped us, but she was not attentive at all. During the entire time we were there (like 3 hours of eating and talking) not once did she come check in (or anyone) to ask if we wanted refills. She was at the bar talking to these 2 guys the entire time. When we told her about issues with our food (keep reading), she didn't care. She was very nonchalant. My friends ordered Diet Coke. Well we found out they didn't even have Diet Coke so we don't even know what she gave them. 2. The food. My friend ordered the cob salad which she was so excited about. When it got there a lot of the ingredients listed on the key were no where to be seen. It didn't have the bacon and it didn't have the egg!!! She told one of the employees. They came out with bacon that was NOT fully cooked. They said that they ran out of hard boiled eggs and were working on them. They came out with the eggs which were still pretty hot and more bacon (this time it was cooked). Needless to say, she was disappointed. She also ordered a side of fries. Those came out so late. I've always liked this place. This has always been my go to place since I live right round the corner and have always enjoyed taking friends here and have even started to know the employees here by name. The last two times I've been here the employee that works lunch shift with the tattoos and facial piercings has been here. She has always been very short, never a hello or anything, just give a menu and that's it. Today, I decide to take a business meeting there l. My business partner had a company truck with lots of expensive tools and machinery and we wanted to get a better look while we sat outside. The tables were very close to another party that was already there so we moved it a bit and she immediately told us to sit somewhere else (granted I did not see the other table that was available) and sparked "do you want to move that table back now". She immediately started to be extremely rude. She went off about how I said "a menu", as if she was insulted by my tone of voice or something and then berated me in front of my business partner saying I was misogynistic for no apparent reason and saying that next time she just won't serve us. I honestly have no clue to what she was referring to. She brings us our beer and spills it on the table and never comes back to wipe it down or even apologizes. Fiery start. *Thai Cashew Wings: an excellent appetizer. Not spicy but rather a milder version of a mango habernero sauce. Chicken was moist and tender. Loved that it came with a ranch trough. *12 oz NY Strip: the steaks came with either a veal demi glace or bourbon peppercorn sauce. The steak itself was cooked nicely to medium rare. I chose fries as my side and they arrived limp. Both items were on the saltier side. *8 oz Filet Mignon: the alternative cut to the NY strip and was $25 instead of $20. This was inedible as it was incredibly rare to the point of mooing. The mashed potatoes were over salted and the salty demi glacé was unbearable. Very disappointed in this plate. Overall I would stick to the NY Strip and avoid the demi glacé. While the deal was enticing, the service and execution made the meal disappointing. I've been coming here 1-3 times a week for the past two months while my daughter attends physical therapy nearby. I usually sit in the corner and get some work done, and I've really tried to make this my go-to spot. The vibe is usually great, and the guy behind the bar is always helpful and friendly...he always remembers my beer and he's honestly the only reason I keep coming back. Unfortunately, the service from one staff member has made the experience uncomfortable. The woman with the tattoos and face piercings repeatedly ignores me, even when she's serving tables right next to mine. Outside of fútbol games (soccer) I'm not sure if I've ever seen more than 5 people in there at a time. Which makes drink service fast and easy. It's a chill spot that is much better when it's sunny then when it's cold especially since it has a garage door opening. As for food.. I really only had the sliders from here. It's quite tasty actually. The bbq sauce on the side didn't match the sliders though. Felt very bland and took away from the sliders rather than adding any depth to it. The tvs are well placed to be able to sit and pretend to listen to friends as you really eye the score of the game. The bartender was fine. Been here a few times and it's always the same guy. So this was recommended to us, and I will have to say I'm glad we listened to them. We went on their steak Tuesday night where you get a ribeye with 2 diff sauces to pick from to put on top, a side dish (I added the garlic parmesan to my fries) and an old fashioned or house wine all for $25! My family all enjoyed the cut of meat, we just wish it had more flavor to it, even the side dishes were a little bland (nothing salt and pepper couldn't fix). The old fashioned tasted great, and the house pinot was okay but not the greatest. We also ordered the chips with cheese and salsa. It wasn't something that stood out but we enjoyed it. They only had 1 server for the whole place, but she was on point and got everyone what they needed in a timely manner. This place is right by Chicano Park so coming from LA, the ambiance reminds me a bit of Echo Park or Silverlake but definitely a hidden gem, with a bomb steak and great drinks.
