Came here for my birthday with friends and we were really impressed with the theming! The kitchen was closed but we will be returning in the near future to try the food menu. The drinks we got were super strong and the server brought over a cute soft serve with a candle for my bday which was a nice surprise. It gets packed so be sure to make a reservation!
Calling all Star Wars and Star Trek fans. This place is so fun and home to some of the best tiki-style drinks. So flavorful and not short changed on the booze! Their food is also very good. I ordered the fried tofu and it was the best tofu I've ever had by far! It's also part of the Chase Open Table program through the Sapphire Reserve card with means if you reserve it on open table you can get your $150 bi-yearly credit!
Such a cool speakeasy experience. The drinks were fabulous, atmosphere was chill and right on theme. The bathroom was even like you were inside a motherboard of neons and glow. I really enjoyed that the seating space was intimate, so make your reservations!
A couple of my friends were visiting SD and suggested going to Mothership to catch up over drinks. I've honestly never made my way down to South Park, but I liked the area and I enjoyed Mothership! It took about an hour for us to be called from the waitlist. We were fortunate enough to secure a table too (otherwise there are standing areas towards the entrance/bar area). The staff, specifically the host and our waitress, were awesome. So friendly and accommodating. The overall vibe of Mothership is great! The decor is definitely out of this world.. As for drinks, we got Homing Beacon and two mocktails: Revival Mission and the Mindchiller. Many of the drinks, including Homing Beacon, are rum forward but they have options for you to switch spirits. I got the Revival Mission mocktail which was a bit sour. I absolutely enjoyed my friend's Mindchiller as it tasted like a yummy pina colada. Hopefully soon, I'd like to come back and get a Mindchiller of my own!

It was my third overall visit but my first time bringing my kids (12, 5). We all love it and are big Mothership fans! I highly recommend for all ages, though come early with a reservation if you're bringing minors.
One of the top highlights of visiting South Park was experiencing mothership. This is a vegan menu and if you are into that or not will still impress you. Food and drinks very good. I like their choice of stainless steel water drinkware too. So space like. I felt like I was sitting in a scene from Star Trek next generation, it is very immersive and has its own back story and narrative. Staff was very tentative and educates well on the menu. We went on a weekday night with reservations in advance. Everyone says the bathrooms are worth seeing. They are right.
Oh my goodness! Fun, delicious food, decent drinks, and amazing staff? Yes, yes and yes all around. The drinks were good, I liked that they had a strength rating. The flavors were good and they had something for all palettes . The presentation was really nice with some sage and a Mothership stir stick. The food was amazing, I loved it! My favorite was the salad. I have never had anything like it and I cannot wait to go back to enjoy it again. The other thing I really enjoyed was the tofu. Such good flavors! We also got the potatoes because everyone was raving about them, but tbh they were just ok in my opinion. Obviously, the main thing here is the way the place looks. I mean, Disneyland has competition. Forget Star Wars land, this is the IT place. Bring your Sci-Fi lovers here because they will be mesmerized. The attention to detail is spectacular, and I cannot even begin to describe the bathroom because I do not want to spoil it for anyone. Just go, enjoy a drink or two, some food and take it all in.
Cool speakeasy. Haven't tried the food yet but the drinks are unique, space themed and large portion sizes. Best thing is their dedication to the theme. Lots of ambient space sounds, a menu that resembles an engineer's blueprints, and beautiful lights and seating everywhere you look. Even the bathroom has a looped audio of space commands.
Well if you want to not feel like you are in San Diego...and you love Star Wars this is your spot. You know the rules...one quick review, that's all: Food/Drinks: Never ate any food but drinks...creative, crazy and delicious Ambiance: this is why you come. Celebrated my teenager's birthday at Mothership, and it was definitely an experience! The space-themed speakeasy vibe is so creative and immersive--it honestly feels like you've stepped onto another planet. The kids had an absolute blast, especially with the fun non-alcoholic drinks that fit the theme perfectly. The menu is pretty limited, so if you're coming for dinner with a group, you'll likely end up ordering almost everything to make it a full meal. We tried the Potatoes, Sandwich (aka Jackfruit Bao Buns), Paella Rice (our family's favorite!), Lemon Pepper Tofu, and the Charred Zaatar Roti. The Paella Rice was the standout dish for us. Service was warm and attentive, and they made the birthday celebration extra special by surprising the birthday boy with a complimentary dollop of soft serve, which was a really thoughtful touch. The only reasons for 4 instead of 5 stars: the limited menu (in addition to this food menu, wish they would include also include some more appetizers from their sister establishments, so guests can sit back and enjoy their creative and in some cases strong cocktails! And the fact that they can't accommodate parties larger than six due to the seating layout. If you have a bigger family or group, that can make celebrating together a little tricky. Overall, such a unique spot that's worth visiting at least once for the atmosphere alone!
Mothership has already risen to the level of San Diego institution a must-visit that nails it every time. Simply put, this is the best bar experience in town. They serve both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks alongside a growing menu of vegan bites. They do have a seasonal cult favorite: savory donuts. If they're in season, do not leave without trying them. Note that there are no clear signs marking the entrance done intentionally as a nod to the speakeasy vibe. Once inside, the spaceship immersion is taken to another level. And if you're lucky, they'll trigger the spaceship lights-and-sounds sequence, which to me resembles a ship under attack. It's incredibly cool. The ambiance is fantastic, and so is the food and drinks everything here delivers. Do pay attention to the alcohol content of each drink, as some run quite strong. Reservations are strongly encouraged, as they book up early and walk-ins may not be accommodated.
Restaurant and bar was very cool! I like all the outer space decor and theme. Looks like you were on a spaceship. Restaurant itself is actually small. The restaurant looked a lot bigger in social media videos. The food was not bad. I had the kimchi fried rice and I really liked it. Also I had the Scallion Potatoes. It was very good. I highly recommend making reservations for the restaurant as it gets really packed and walk ins are not guaranteed to sit or get in at the standing bar.
First off, the vibe of Mothership was awesome! The food and drinks were awesome! I had a large group of friends go the night before I went, and their reservation filled up before I could say I was interested in going. I saw all the pictures, and promptly made reservations for Sunday night. This place is so busy, definitely recommend making reservations. The only availability was to be seated at the bar. If I were to go again, I would not like to sit at the bar again. The bartender that waited on us, though she smiled and said welcoming words, did not come across as genuine. At one point, I overheard her speaking to another employee about someone else in a negative fashion. Don't know if it was another employee or if it was a customer. Then I saw another bartender that was enthusiasticly shaking a cocktail, and looking like she was enjoying herself, I was enjoying watching her make the drink. Then I noticed the bartender that had been waiting on us give a frown and a slight shake of her head like she disapproved of the happy bartender's antics, so happy bartender stopped. If I were to go back to Mothership, I would rather be at a table where I couldn't see what was going on behind the scenes. The food and atmosphere was awesome!

We had such a great experience at this space themed bar! One thing that I would make a note of is that we did make a reservation for 10 pm on a Saturday night, but still had to wait in a very long line out the door for a good 15 minutes. We were confused, along with many other folks in line. I think they were just preparing their tables way longer than expected. Other than that inconvenience, the bar itself was beautifully decorated and very on-theme. The drinks were very much giving "tiki bar but in space" and were veryyyy strong. They have an alcohol strength spectrum on their menu so you can guide yourself through the drinks. We got drinks that weren't even on the strong side of the scale and they were still pretty strong. This would be a great place for a pregame for sure! They even have some food and seasonal soft serve other than their normal drinks. Overall, great service, strong drinks, and fun vibes. The Mothership is a unique cocktail bar in San Diego with a spaceship theme. The front of the building is very unassuming, but once you enter, you are transported to a spaceship that has crashed on an alien planet. Reservations are highly recommended and can be made on OpenTable. The main bar area is just inside the entrance, and has a "inside the spaceship" vibe. The décor is great with bulkheads, overhead ducts and grates, geometric panels and lights, devices and cabling, etc. The back of the bar features a cool color changing and bubbling reactor. When I was booking our reservation, I was on the fence between booking the bar or dining room. While the bar area does look very cool, I'm happy I went with the dining room. The vibe in this area is you're half in the crashed spaceship, but also outside at nighttime on a tropical planet. The back wall has similar décor to the bar area, but there are rock cave walls, vegetation, and stars overhead. Shooting stars periodically shoot across the sky. There are subtle sound effects playing in the background that add to the environment. There is also some tiki influence with colorful tiki lights being replaced by illuminated aliens egg pods. There is also music playing in the background that they custom curated and is kind of a mix of sci-fi and tiki that totally goes with the environment. I started out with the Self-Destruct Sequence (black pot still Jamaican rum, spiced West Indies rum, aged Caribbean rum, grapefruit, lime, cinnamon, cardamom, Angostura bitters, absinthe, $17). This cocktail was excellent, and is probably one of my new favorites. It was perfectly balanced and complex. Every single flavor was there if you looked for it. She started out with the Away Mission (aged Caribbean rum, gold pot still Jamaican rum, crème de banana, kumquat, papaya, pineapple, lime, opal basil, mint, $16). This was another good balanced cocktail, but with a sweeter flavor profile. I was on the fence for my second drink, and ended up going with the Mindkiller (navy strength West Indies rum, white overproof Jamaican rum, Amaro Meletti, coconut cream, pineapple, tangerine, orange, lime, Tang cordial, $19). I asked our server before ordering it and she confirmed it was definitely a sweeter drink. After seeing this drink on many of the other tables, I had to try it. It is definitely sweet and boozy. The pineapple, coconut, and citrus definitely stand out and the Tang cordial on top kicks the orange into overdrive. I probably wouldn't order it again, but don't regret trying it. Plus, I got that cool swizzle stick to add to my collection. For her second, she had the Revival Mission mocktail (papaya, kumquat, mint, basil, pineapple, lime, soda, $13). We goofed and didn't realize this was the mocktail version of the Away Mission. It had a similar flavor profile but was sweeter. In hindsight, we should have paid closer attention and ordered one of the other mocktails. Be sure to check out the restrooms. They are lit with all red pattern on the walls with mirror on the ceiling, and a mission control type sound track playing in the background. The hallway by the bathrooms is also fully themed, with décor and bulkhead doors. We were initially greeted and served by Anthony, and another server who's name I didn't catch took over for him halfway through. Service was very friendly, and helpful as we asked several questions about the menu. All of our drinks came out in a timely manner, and we were not rushed to leave. We managed to catch the little show that occurs when certain drinks are ordered. The lights dim, special alarm sounds play, and smoke comes out of the spaceships overhead ducts. In addition to picking up some cool swizzle sticks, I also bought their purple cosmic skull mug and a pair of cocktail glasses as souvenirs from our visit. We will definitely return the next time we are down in San Diego. read more

Not going to lie, I was hesitant with the plant based menu, but the potatoes and flat bread we ordered were fantastic! They definitely added the right amount of seasoning and textures to keep the food flavorful and fresh. We had a Mind Killer (and one Mind Chiller...the non-alcoholic version of Mind Killer.) Drinks come with a cool fizzle stick. Well made and tasty. You reservation is timed so be mindful of that if you get caught up in conversation. Inside decor was amazing and tge restroom felt like the death star. Fun experience for sure and staff were very friendly and attentive. read more
Had been looking forward to this place for awhile, as I always enjoy Kindred. The decor and vibes are definitely next level. We ordered a few bites to share, and each had two drinks during our time there. Service was a little slow, but mostly friendly. Good suggestions and helpful answering questions. The only issue we had, which I know they needed to do on a busy night, was how pushy they were with getting out of our table right at the time limit. I am sure people try to take advantage of it - it's just not my favorite to feel that the whole experience is on a timer. Overall I am glad we went. I think I am just more of a Kindred person than a Mothership person. If you haven't been though, definitely go check it out. read more

Favorite cocktail bar in San Diego! We make it a point to come here every time we visit. The inside is incredibly well-decorated and detail-oriented. It really feels like you've stepped onto another planet. The whole space-themed concept is so fun, from the drinks to the food. Every cocktail we've tried has been delicious and surprisingly strong. The cups are super cute too, and we somehow always end up buying one to take home. The staff are very friendly and helpful, especially if you can't decide what to order. It's a really casual and fun spot for date night or hanging out with friends. read more

We booked a reservation at Mothership for a Sunday night after spending a full day in the zoo. We were dehydrated, cold, and exhausted upon arriving, but the environment was really cool to see. The wooden seats in the half booth were supremely uncomfortable, so I did that annoying couple thing and sat next to my boyfriend on the same side of the booth. Oh well. Since we were dehydrated, we didn't check out the famous bathroom -- which I did not know was famous until this past weekend, whoops. We did each order a cocktail and split the tofu, which was very tasty. My boyfriend had the Polaris and I tried the Harmonic Tremor. I liked that the menu provided booziness levels, as I was way too zonked to go ham that night. Service was mostly prompt. It took some time to grab our check, but they were busy busy. It's a popular spot for good reason. Definitely come here for the atmosphere and tiki drinks. read more

I love a bar with a curated vibe, and Mothership is definitely it. My friend booked a reservation here and our table was ready when they said it would be! I got the Tracking Device, and my friends got the Mindkiller and Away Mission. The Tracking Device was zeroproof and a very delicious mocktail! The tang from the lime and floral taste from the hibiscus made it very pleasant to sip on as the night went on. The cocktails here are STRONG, so drink accordingly lol. My friend couldn't finish his entire Mindkiller drink because it was so strong, but he did enjoy it. The bathrooms are super cool, and the interior is very trippy and chic. I'm a big fan of how much effort and attention to detail the creators put into this location. read more

We stopped by on a Saturday night without a reservation so we waited for a bit around the street for about 15 minutes or so Only standing room still but it was a Saturday night after all Drinks were delicious!! I've been to Mothership a few times now, and the experience is always excellent. This time, I popped in for a rum tasting event which kicked off The Rum Curious Summit, which my friend Bryan organizes. Highly recommend the Warbird if you're a fan of Aperol or Campari. I didn't eat this time, but the vegan menu has always been delightful, even for myself, an omnivore. The cocktails, service, and ambiance are always immaculate. read more

Have been wanting to try this place for a while. Having a Vegan friend in the group this was perfect. We finally were able to get reservations. Yes you need reservations. The place is very small, a couple of stand up bar top tables and around 10 total tables. I would recommend this place only for a group max of 4 people. Very interesting and cool mix of Signature drinks. They also had non alcoholic beverages. The whole menu is plant based. Drinks were very interesting and really good. Food is Spanish style tapas. Small plates to share. I think we ordered almost everything in the menu Bread, Potatoes, Rice, Tofu, Bao Bun Sandwiches and Savory Pancake. Every dish was delicious and nicely presented. Place was medium loud and it felt that you actually entered another planet like in the tv series of Star Trek. Bathrooms looked like the elevator of a starship. Outstanding decor. Service was really good until the part that they rushed us through our dinner. That is why I put 3 stars. No where I saw that seating was maximum for two hours but they even rushed us more. Our reservation was at 730pm and they took us out of our table at 9pm. Very nicely they told us that we had to leave because they had another reservation. We were not even through our second cocktail and we had to leave it half drank. That is why my 3 star rating. I think that was very rude. For four people to celebrate a bday an hour and a half is very little time to share. It was a nice one time experience but that is all. I was planning to go again with another friend but with this time limit I would not repeat the place. read more
The concept of this speakeasy is so cool. The interior decoration is above and beyond and the vibes are perfectly out of this world! Service was nice. Their menu is very cool, designed to fit with the theme from the names to the descriptions. I got the Revival Mission and unfortunately, it's just not for me. The combination of the acidity and bitterness... at worst I can describe as tasting like vomit... literally... I tried my friend's Mindchiller and hers was good! The coconut cream really complimented the drink nicely. Unfortunately, I think I just picked the wrong drink. We ordered the pancake and while it was tasty, it was so expensive. All in all, I'm glad I went because the experience really made it worth it. If I come back, I'm definitely getting a drink with coconut cream in it. I'm intrigued. read more

We were in North Park for a show and lucked out to grab a reservation. I will be looking to returning anytime that we are in the area. Pretty neat place! It gives space mountain vibes. My friend and I both got drinks, I felt mine (zero proof drink called tracking device) was too sweet for me to finish. It was nice to have a slice of carrot cake with our drinks and even better there's bites to eat along with your alcohol. We sat at the bar (have had a reservation for a month) but they were so busy it at times felt we weren't attended to as quickly as we liked. Either way, neat experience and I am happy I finally got to check it out. read more

The menu helpfully indicates the strength of the drinks and the attention to detail is lovely. The drinks here are almost all rum-based and some can be quite sweet. Mothership offers a limited selection of finger foods but no large dishes. Away Mission: Not too sweet, refreshing Mindkiller: Very sweet, very strong, not a fan Ambiance: 4/5 The decor exudes spaceship/sci-fi/galactic vibes. It's not really my cup of tea but I'm sure any Star Wars fan would like it. There's lots of super cool details that you have to see in person. What a fun speakeasy. It was super chill and the service was awesome. Chole was our server and she was so nice and attentive. We shared the potato 001, and it was good. It was a like a mini hash brown with vegan cream cheese. If you plan on coming make sure to make a reservation, you definitely will not be disappointed coming here. I like themed restaurants and bars, so Mothership was high on my list of San Diego destinations. The outside of the bar looks like a Mexican restaurant (which it was a few years ago), but the inside has been transformed into a scientific base on an alien planet. The decorations, colors, and music all fit the vibe perfectly and look great! If you've been to any of the Meow Wolf locations, it reminded me of that minus the interactivity. I guess that's my one criticism is that I wish there were points of interaction around the place. For example, the bar had these cool recessed lights that looked like control panels, but they could easily be made into an interactive element. A lot more could be done with projection technology too. We didn't eat dinner, but the menu looked interesting with all vegetarian entrees with futuristic names. We did have some drinks. I had a non-alcoholic Tang & Tonic which was yummy and reminded me of something I drank in the UK when I was a little kid. My friends got alcoholic drinks which they both enjoyed. I really like this spot - for various reasons. It's speakeasy enough but not hardcore. There's no password, no serious advertisement or big sign, and there's no dress code to give off a snooty vibe. There's a small sign near the door area that's somewhat discrete and if you see their door, just open it. Love the entrance. Every design and decor looks to be well thought out. The music is a bit loud but not so loud that you need to talk over it crazy. I came on a Tuesday and there were some groups but it was rather empty otherwise. Nathan was at the bar. He knew everything about the menu and had a great balance between conversation and bartending. Dive simulation: loved this drink! I love creamy sweet drinks and this has a great balance. Star Rider: I was expecting this to be creamy also with the banana but it wasn't. It very much tasted like a raspberry popsicle that Nathan described it as. For being tiki drinks and heavy on the ice, I wasn't disappointed in the alcohol content on both drinks. Rice: this was a kimchi crispy rice that was a full meal. Priced appropriately and well presented. My only gripe was that the mushrooms which I was soooo looking forward to were extremely over salted. Everything else was well put together and balanced. Watch out for the lemon. Take a couple of bites before committing to squeezing the whole slice. Overall, very happy o stopped by and would love to try more on their menu. read more
Great cocktail spot ! We went on a Friday night with a party of 6 and it was busy! Good thing we had made reservations and were seated right away. Our server was fun and entertaining. We loved the creative drinks and the decor was perfect for the name mothership! Very quirky and fun! I could see why this place is so popular. read more
First visit to Mothership, and totally based off of recommendations. I have to admit, this blew the other local Tiki Bars out of the water.... The drinks here are incredibly well balanced, and so much fun. The decor here is amazing, fully immersive and completely transformative. It's like being inside a Disneyland ride, but it's even better than that, there is rum.... The bathroom on its own is an experience, and you have to go check it out, even if it's just for the photo op. Our bartender was also extremely friendly and went out of their way to make it special for the birthday we were celebrating. I can't wait to come back again... False Idol? Pfff. The scenery was awesome! Absolutely love the gimmick here. It feels like you're ripped straight off of a cross between Star Trek and Star Wars. And the bathroom is super trippy. Celebrated a friends 21st here, they gave us their secret menu bowl cocktail for free which was so nice! And our servers were super nice and had a great vibe! If you want to feel like you've stepped onto another planet, Mothership is an absolute must. The entire space has this immersive, spaceship vibe that makes the experience feel so unique from the moment you walk in. The best part. It's completely plant based, which is such a hidden gem in itself. You wouldn't expect the food to be this good, but every dish is packed with flavor and creativity. They also have a great variety of mocktails, and they are just as fun and delicious as the atmosphere. Definitely make a reservation ahead of time because it fills up quickly. Bar vs restaurant?
There is a better view at the restaurant. You really get the full experience
Are kids allowed to?
Yes. The bar are is 21+ but the dining floor is open for all ages. The food and drink offerings are generally tailored to adults but children are often guests too.
I see on open table reservations are standard, bar and counter? Does a bar reservation include seating?
not all bar reservations guarantee a seat... they also have tables for standing only.. for the best experience reserve "standard"
Can we just get drinks, or do we have to order entrees?
You do not have to order any entrees, you can just go for the drinks 😊
Can some members of our party be seated if a few members of our party are running 15 min late? Or does the whole party need to be present to be seated? We have to bring separate cars!

Affirmative. We have Happy Hour from 4:30PM- 5:30PM, Monday-Thursday. As well as a reverse Happy Hour 10:30PM-Close, Monday-Thursday.

Yes. We visited with children. We sat at a table and they had non-alcoholic drinks. They loved it.

We went on a Saturday night so it was completely full and it was SO loud. Also has very loud music. Would not recommend given the information you provided

Are walk in times available?
We walked in and got a spot at the bar easily but it was right when the opened. I would suggest a reservation but if you don’t have one don’t let it stop you.
Do you have to drink to go to the bar area?
No you don't. There's more than one "Mocktail" on the regular cocktail list. There're all pretty tasty and fun-looking creations! Enjoy!
Are there any gluten free options on the menu?
Yes! Also the menu clearly states the ingredients of a dish and includes whether or not foods include items that are commonly part of a dietary restriction.
