We recently spent thousands removing trees to mitigate risk, and were willing to spend more to create defensible space per CAL Fire regulations, but they demonstrated no interest in working with us to do so. This occurred in the context of next door neighbors with much worse fire conditions around their homes being allowed to keep their insurance with other major carriers, even though those carriers are no longer writing new policies in the area. We were given a list of "requirements" in order to have our policy renewed. These "requirements" went way above and beyond CAL Fire recommendations (e.g. ripping out the deck, retrofitting all of the eaves) and Jayne dismissed the idea of trying to satisfy Allstate, stating that is was too expensive/unrealistic and that there would be no guarantee of renewal even if we did everything. It was very clear that the goal was to get rid of us, not to help us keep our insurance. Jayne said not to worry and that our best course of action was to go with another company, owned by Allstate, that writes policies in higher risk areas. But when the time came to do that, she ghosted me. I emailed and called several times, but no response. So much for being in " good hands." I would never go back to Allstate. From talking with many friends and neighbors in the same fire zone, it sounds like other companies, although certainly not all, have taken better care of their customers and been willing to work with them and continue their coverage. We would have been happy to pay higher rates. But we were simply thrown to the dogs.
