Date of visit: October 21, 2023…read more I did a fair amount of research on corn mazes; my mom said she wanted to do one and since this was her first--and likely only--corn maze, I wanted to make sure I found a good one. Schuett Farms did not disappoint! The price was good ($8, and they aren't cash only!), the staff was friendly, and the mini donuts were outstanding! We were all pleasantly surprised at how affordable everything here was, I appreciated that they were trying to keep things economical for families. The maze was quite challenging, with 10 checkpoints (we only found half of them) and miles of corn to navigate through. I do wish they had staff inside the maze helping ensure people did not trample the corn and it would be nice if they had some trash cans inside to help with the trash that garbage people left inside the maze. Another disappointment: There was an option to "play" on your phone but someone forgot to pay for the QR code and that portion of the game was not operational. Technology is great, but if you don't follow through, it ends up being worse than not having it at all.

For the fall, they have a hayride, corn maze, gourd launching (yes!), pick your own pumpkins, pick out your own pumpkins, caramel corn, cider, etc. Everything it should be for family fun day. The selection of squashes/gourds/pumpkins really impressed me. I'm certainly not a connoisseur, but they had pumpkins ranging from golf ball sized to approximately 300 pounds (not an exaggeration), all kinds of eating squashes, and piles of decorating gourds. They even had hay bales in both regular and mini sizes so you could really up your fall decorating game. The farm was surprisingly clean for being an actual farm, and everyone was friendly. There are wagons, but they are basically all always in use, so bring your own! I'm really excited to come back next year when tiny tot can walk!

They had such an adorable set up in a cute cabin and the photographer was really great with my boys. The bunny was friendly and had a kind face that was welcoming to my toddler twin boys! It was rainy and muddy, but the family that owns the farm was so kind and welcoming! They had baby chicks that the kids could pet and had set up a great egg hunt around the farm! My boys were very interested in the chickens and goats! I definitely hope to visit Godsell Farm in the future and would highly recommend to anyone else as well!

You park in the lot and walk to the Welcome Center to pay the $5 per person admission, which includes the hayride with hay bales (not lame wooden benches with a few strands of straw on it like most places), haunted maze, bread for feeding the farm animals and touring the grounds. Pumpkins range in price from $3 to $6, and you pick them in patch. Animals include horses, ponies, pigs, a llama, a donkey, a cow, turkeys, goats, chickens, and ducks. I had been wanting to do this FOR YEARS and never got around to it. Finally, a few months ago, I…read moredid it. I saw a Facebook ad for a combination goat hang out and brewery flight (via the Fever app "Brews and Baahhs"). My two favorite things!! (ha ha) So I bought the tickets and was not disappointed. It was one-hour with the goats, then you went to One Lake Brewing down the street afterward for a free flight (and we ended up buying dinner). The owner, David, was there and chit-chatted and answered some questions. Then did a few things around the property while we just hung out and petted the goats. I have never had such an up close and personal experience with a goat. They are a lot like dogs. They were hilarious and very affectionate. They wanted to climb all over us but we were prepared for that. It's a shame that David mentioned they might only be doing this for a year or two more. I'm sure it's a lot to maintain, especially during these crazy times. -But it's very covid safe. For what we did, you can wear your mask and you are left alone with the goats in a huge open pasture - so it's not a people-crowded event. I highly recommend it - it was a lot of fun. In case the number is not on the profile - he gave me a card with contact info: 847-226-9510; glennartfarm.com for more info.

This is in the Austin neighborhood right next to Oak Park. I never realized I lived 10 minutes away from an urban farm my entire life! The chicken coops are at this address and then the yoga is down the alley in a field right by the firehouse. You can't miss it! They have the area fenced in with 20+ goats! I adore all animals and heard that goat yoga is a great way to relax and rid anxiety. I was fully present and in the moment when I was surrounded by these adorable goats. I will definitely recommend this to everyone who has never done goat yoga before. This was a more affordable option too! Usually if you go to goat yoga in the city tickets are around 50 dollars this is closer to 26 bucks! Not bad. Such a great time. David and Carolyn seem like the really take great care of their goats. David was telling me how a mother goat rejected her baby goat and they had to bottle feed the goat every four hours! They name the goats really cute names and tell you about their life and temperament. I wanted to take one home with me! They were clean and lovable. I will definitely come back :) NaaaaaAaamaste ‍

CITY SLICKER I have…read moredriven by here many times but i have never stopped. Recently I needed zucchini. We were having company over and I wanted to add grilled zucchini to the menu. When I stopped in I was amazed at the large selection of items they had. They also had a bunch of great looking zucchini. The normal price for them was $1.29 a pound but they were on special for 75 cents a pound. I grabbed 3 nice size ones and the total price was $1.83. Now that was a deal. I should have grabbed more. I was also able to meet the owner Chris. She was very friendly and helpful. She actually stopped in to drop off more zucchini. She was also there to see how the store was doing. We also started talking about cooking food and using fresh veggies. As she was talking to me she was looking through the peppers. She picked up two giant green peppers that were going bad and asked me if I could do something with them. I told her Yeah and she gave them to me. In fact, I took them home and roasted them on the fire pit. I also served them to our guests later that day and they loved them. In fact, the guests used them on there brats. I know roasted peppers are not a traditional topping but I must admit they tasted fantastic on the brats. Thanks Chris for giving me these and adding to our already delicious menu. This store is seasonal. I am not sure when they close down but I'm sure when it starts to get cold. I also learned that Chris is the daughter of the famous Jerry Smith who has the farm North of this location. So all of there fresh seasonal veggies come from there. Jerry Smith's farm has a great pumpkin patch for the kids to visit in October. If you haven't been there then I recommend you load up the Family and make a trip there. They also have a Corn Festival coming up in August too. Those events take place at the Jerry Smith Farm and not here. I also have a Yelp Review posted for that location. Okay back to Green Acres. The selection was huge. They had a variety of potatoes and onions, Roma tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, regular tomatoes, 4 foot tall Dill, corn, hot peppers, green peppers, pickles, watermelon and zucchini. Everything looked amazing. In addition to the fresh vegetables this location also carried flats of flowers too. I really wanted the palm tree for $330.00 It looks so cool plus I would always feel like I'm on vacation if I owned it. So if you are driving down the road and you see a little shack at the side of the road it's Green Acres. It is the place to be. It's like farm living which is the life for me. Yeah I may get allergic from the smell of hay. I do love the country but I also love my big city too. There are some song lyrics mixed in there above...enjoy!!! See Green Acres makes me want to break out in song. I'm happy that people seem to be getting healthier. Places like this are helping us move in the right direction. We need to learn how to make food again and not out of a box but from scratch. It is not only rewarding to do this but it tastes amazing. So I appreciate Green Acres and I can not wait to stop back.
