I managed to find a strawberry plant finally! Unfortunately they were out of poblanos which was the other thing I was looking for. The layout here needs work, i felt like I was wandering around aimlessly. There are veggies right next to flowers and nothing is well marked, at times I couldn't tell if I was in "employee only" sections. Prices were good but I didn't love the quality of what they had. Checkout was friendly but I feel like this spot is on the bottom end of similar local options overall. read more

It's truly hard to find a good nursery. This is not one of those. No one here is particularly helpful and their inventory leaves a lot to be desired most of the time. I've had weird invasive weeds sprout with their plants when I transfer them over to new pots with fresh dirt. And as a guy I'm sick of getting dirty looks from the ladies that work here. I don't treat anyone like dirt so don't treat me like dirt. I'll find a good nursery one of these days. But this one is one of the worst. read more

This is a cool plant shop. Stopped in just because we hadn't been here before but had drove past a few times and it just looks so huge from the road. The plants were great and there is a decent amount of variety. My intention was to get some indoor plants but the options were kind of limited. But I did find a great big ivy and a jade plant all for $20! Amazing prices. I know very little about plants and have lots of questions typically but it was a little tricky because I didn't see any workers other than the cashier and she didn't seem very interested in all my questions. But other than that I'd recommend for the prices, baskets were 50% off while I was there! read more

A generous variety of plants in excellent condition. They have many plants of each variety. Best of all are the very reasonable prices; local landscapers told me about this place. They shop here even though they do not get special prices. They have annuals, perennials, and vegetables. Ready for the bad part? Here it is: ports potties. I have been going to the screen house for the last 10 years and it is the best in the area. Their plants have good resiliency and the people are friendly that work there. The nursery itself and the selection are beyond compare, but they do lack a bit in customer service. My husband and I brought our 11 month old daughter there to pick out some pumpkins, a few flowers and to take some fun pictures. They had tons of pumpkins and gourds of all sizes adorably displayed in rows and in baskets on farm trailers. There were also plenty of gorgeous flowers of all types and sizes. Needless to say, we were NOT disappointed. All of the prices were completely reasonable and it felt nice to know we were supporting a local business. That being said, we felt like we were a nuisance to the nursery staff. We lots of super cute pictures of my daughter and husband enjoying themselves with a very grumpy employee scowling in the background. (Do they have a Photoshop feature to "turn that frown upside down"?) It was even a bit disappointing to hear how they spoke to each other in front of customers; there was a lot of grumping and ZERO "please" or "thank you". I noticed that the other people commented on their payment policy. I have to admit, I had a similar experience. My total was $80-something and I noticed that the payment card slidey-thing said "Debit or Check Card". I nicely asked the woman who rang me up if they accepted credit or only debit and she grumpily accepted my credit card. It wasn't the end of the world, if she would have said that she could, but they preferred debit I would have understood and switched. Oh well, I'm not going to lose any sleep over their payment policies. During check-out I mentioned to the woman that their carts of pumpkins and flowers looked stunning from the road... they drew us in and we're happy we stopped. There was no "thank you", only a terse comment that "yeah, I'm glad we have somewhere to put them". I chose not to get upset or feel sorry for them... I only wish that something wonderful happen to those people that make them happy and appreciative of all of the wonderful things that they have and how they make people happy. In summary, the nursery itself is fabulous and the prices very fair. The staff could use a happy-pill, but I didn't feel as offended as several of the other reviewers claimed. I would suggest that, if you want smiley, apperceive and helpful nursery staff, you drive north on Route 60 1 minute and go to Turk's. But, if you want A LOT of selection at very fair prices, don't let grumpy-pants discourage you and swing by this adorable greenhouse/nursery. I WILL be returning, but perhaps won't bring my little one while she's still impressionable. read more

Decided to do some flower shopping on my Easter Sunday and enjoy the beautiful weather. So happy I chose Mini Earth Greenhouse. I found the staff to be extremely helpful. I don't have a very strong green thumb and they helped me find some flowers that were easy to maintain. Very knowledgeable and friendly. They are in a great location. I couldn't hear a lot of cars driving by and it was peaceful to walk around and look and all the plants. Definitely will be going back for more. My yard will look great in no tone thanks to the prices not being outrageous. Thank you to everyone who made my shopping experience stress free and left with more knowledge on plants. read more

On account of the local nursery closing for business, I've been forced to go scouting out for a new place. I've gone by Mini Earth a number of times and finally stopped in considering it's not too far from where I live. I wasn't expecting much as the place looked kind of small... BUT was I surprised and delighted when I started walking around. Rows and rows and rows of flowers... both annuals & perennials. They also had a good selection of vegetable plants. I was also pleased to see that they actually have a good selection of full & partial shade plants. Of course it's always easy to get full sun plants, but generally plants for shade can be hard to find. I'm really happy that Mini Earth has exceeded my expectations and you can bet I'll be checking in here several times during the growing season. I purchased two plants a month ago. Both died. I brought them back and was lectured about how it must be my fault. One plant was full of ants and the other had mites or something eating it alive. One was indoors and one was outdoors. I was told I either overwatered or underwatered them. Then they sold me a bottle of insect spray. By the way, I saw two tiny bugs hovering around one of the new plants. The attitude should be to help the consumer and replace plants without question like other stores do and make returning something a pleasant experience so I will come back. I won't. read more

Horrible customer service. No one there knows what they are talking about. Prices are too high and management is a joke. I spoke with Tony, one of the managers and he was disrespectful, arrogant, cocky, patronizing and was swearing in front of customers. This place is absolutely awful! The management, and employees are extremely rude. When I first pulled up, I was so excited. Upon first glance, this is a beautiful nursery. Nice location in Grayslake, but the parking situation is horrifying. Cars parked all over the street, people with there kids running everywhere, and you cannot get any assistance. The employees look so overwhelmed, it's hard to get a clear answer on anything. I watched the supposed manager walk away crying, because she couldn't handle the sheer volume of people. It appears that there are a lot of senior women shopping here , and they are rude to anyone who gets near them. Prices are high, I've seen better looking plants at Home Depot! Nothing is organic, and they do not give you any plastic to protect your vehicle. If you want to spend half your morning standing in line, with no help, in complete caios, please feel free to drive up. I will stick with Home Depot or Menards. read more

TERRIBLE establishment, steer clear! Customer service is horrendous. We purchased $70 worth of plants from here on 4/16/2015 and within 3 weeks they all died. We tried to work something out with them but the staff was openly hostile towards us and refused to do anything for us, except make excuses and blame us for the situation. We ultimately had to dispute the transaction with our credit card. My in-laws also purchased $120 worth of plants from here on the same day and a majority of those plants died as well in the same period of time. They reluctantly agreed to replace 5 of the plants for my in-laws, though on 5/31/2015 when my in-laws returned to pick up the plants the staff complained about replacing them, stating "Tony should never have agreed do to that". Stay away, this place is awful. 5/9/2016 update. I see someone from Mini Earth responded to my review, and demonstrated one of my complaints first hand - blame the customer. Also the statement "Our policy is if you are having trouble with a plant we will be more than happy to help you out." was not correct in our case. Ultimately we just went to Lowes or Home Depot to replace the plants from Mini Earth. Those ones were fine all summer. The only plants we have ever had an issue with (been planting in the same planter box with new soil every year for years) were from Mini Earth. You can choose to do what you like, I know we won't be going back to Mini Earth. read more

Great Selection and great quality but their customer service seems to be lacking... I am going to go out on a limb and say I am not their biggest customer, I have spent around $150 there this year. With that said I have had a couple bad experiences there this year. The latest one was when I was heading to the checkout with my fall mum/hay bail purchase. Nowhere did I see it clearly stated that they only accepted cash or debit. I did notice a small bit of text on their POS machine that stated something to the effect that they 'liked' debit. It didn't say we DON'T accept credit. Once I slid my card and selected 'Credit' the woman working the register scowled at me and quipped something to the effect 'Next time cash or debit'. Then she carried on stating that she pays over 10k in fees each month for product she charges very little for and that it is a 'Small Business' thing... First off, I do know about small business. I also realize you get charged more for a credit card purchase than a debit purchase. I also understand that there are many other nurseries in the area that would be more than happy to take my money. With the recent data breaches that are plaguing many establishments these days I choose to use my credit card and not my debit card that requires a PIN. Hopefully everyone visiting carries cash or are willing to use debit. Enjoy! read more

My family and I went here on a Saturday and were treated with complete disrespect. Customer service was horrible and treated us like second rate citizens. I don't know if it was because we are Hispanic, but my daughter was in tears as we walked out because of how management treated us. And how upset my wife was. We did purchase geraniums and they were overpriced and died within 4 days of purchase. What a horrifying experience. I will never subject my family to that place again. As far as the nursery goes-love this place. Great selection/plants/quality and pricing. Service: uggg they do need to work on this area. It seams like once you go in enough times they warm up; but you never feel totally welcomed. This is NOT a reason to not shop here, you will only be missing out on great stuff! All the flowers were beautiful, but the check-out process was difficult. There was no clear line for the 3 checkouts and people were jumping ahead of those "in-line". It would be helpful to have something marked on the concrete or roped off so costumers leave with a smile and not grumbling about the rude people who just jump in front of others. read more

I'm a horticulturist and have a long career working in garden centers and landscape design, so I don't need a lot of help when I shop for plants. I recently purchase three butterfly weed seedlings at Mini Earth. I wasn't able to plant them right away so I kept them on the patio in their pint containers. Two of them are fine, but the third went down hill and looked terrible. I took the plant back and asked if they would exchange it for a healthy plant and they refused. First they tried to blame me for over-watering. I told them the other two plants were fine, so they then said it was a living organism and you sometimes lose plants. In all of the many years I have been gardening I have never experienced plants from any other nursery having this problem. Last year I had the same experience with some lovely annual hanging baskets that I purchased there. They reluctantly exchanged those. I think they use the same soil for every plant they sell, when many of these plants require different types of soil. At any rate, they CERTAINLY will never get my business again. It would have been so simple for them to just replace the butterfly weed with a healthy one, but they chose to be extremely unfriendly and ungracious in their customer relations. read more
