We had a great experience with Joe as our broker. We saw an apartment with him but needed some time to make a decision as he showed the apartment to another potential tenant. He was willing to give us priority as we had seen the apartment first, which we greatly appreciated. He even gave us a ride so that we could get a check to put down our deposit. Ugh. This place was awful. When my roommates and I first signed our lease the man we dealt with at Liberty was decent, a little pushy, even for a realtor, but nothing terribly unexpected. Fast forward to two years later when we decided not to renew and we had a very different experience. They realtors showing the apartment were rude when calling to inform us that they would be bring potential renters over and routinely didn't give an appropriate amount of notice. Things became even more difficult when it came to orchestrating the always-dreaded September 1st move. While we had worked something out with our landlords so that we could move the morning of the 1st, the realtor we spoke with very rudely informed us that legally we needed to be out the day before and then flippantly complied with our request to stay until the following morning. Moving is already stressful enough and, frankly, Liberty Real Estate just makes it worse. read more

A truly skeezy place to go to find your real estate. I ran into the jackasses here through a sublet. I was renting from a man who was leaving a nice place in Brookline. Liberty Real Estate insisted on a credit report from me, even though the man from whom I was subletting would be the one paying the rent, and I paying him. On top of that they insisted on charging me a ridiculous price (three digits) for the check, which is probably a free service for them. On calling the office I ask if this was necessary and got a snotty, "well that is what my time is worth," in reply. I'm glad the man moving out agreed to pay the fee because I wanted to punch the man in the nose. When I went over there in person to sign the lease, the snot-worker treated me like shit in general, and gave me a hard time because I was a student on loans, and was not having my mommy or da-da co-sign the lease. The second star is there only because they do have a decent cleaning service to do the apartment halls, even though they use chemicals that make it impossible to breathe. If looking for a realtor in that region, there are many skeeze places like this one, so watch out from whom you rent. read more

I lived in the 227 building that this Real estate company manages. For one, the owners of the building are very nice-- THAT, however says nothing about maintenance. 1. I have lost hot water over a dozen times during the one year that I have lived here. Recently, when we lost hot water, I called the real estate company, to address the issue and try and find out when it was coming back, and Joe Cellucci proceeded to argue with me about how it wasn't inconvenient. I had had NO hot water for 48 hours, and he said that maintenance was "doing the best they could". Now, I am not one to complain about how quickly things get fixed, but I pay for hot water, and I wasn't able to take a hot shower for 2 days-- and when i addressed the issue, there was an argument telling me that I was being unreasonable. 2. During the fall months, the temperature was and does go below 32 degrees--as it is New England..The heat is building controlled and I did not receive heat in my unit until the end of November. I think that is all I have to say about that... 3. While living here, I have tried to contact maintenance for a series of small issues. I called the real estate company in early January about the faucet in my kitchen-- They did not fix it until Mid March. I kept calling and leaving messages, and also speaking with Joe Celucci, who was my realtor-- and nothing worked until I showed up at the office and told them they needed to fix it because if they didn't there would be some serious water damage-- because the faucet was loose (so every time you turned the water on there was water coming from the base of the faucet). Finally, It was fixed-- 4.In the midst of the faucet dilemma, I addressed that my shower drain may be clogged because it was having trouble draining. They had someone come in and snake the drain-- and i guess during this, they broke the pipe, so much so that when i ran the water in my shower it was leaking to the apartment below. They asked me to not use my shower for 2 days so they could fix it. I said I couldn't, because I had work in the morning, and i have no means of finding another shower, unless they could tell me where. Enough said.... While living here I have also caught about 8 mice. I mean, I know it is an old building-- I grew up in a 200 year old house-- and I have never seen that many mice in one year. I addressed this again to maintenance, and they did nothing-- their excuse being that its an old building- and you get what you get.... Ants are also rampant in my kitchen. I told the maintenance guy that there were sugar ants all over my counter and getting into my food, he said he would send in an exterminator. Later, I found out that the issue was not addressed because I had to throw away all of my bread that was on the counter. Overall, its been terrible communicating problems with the maintenance. And good luck with Joe Celucci-- He is always right, and he will not listen to anything you have to say. When he was trying to find new renters for the upcoming year, he told me when he was coming-- called my cellphone on a constant basis, and emailed me at work. When I told him I couldn't talk, because i was busy at work, he would continue to call and communicate because it was convenient for him...he really is a nightmare! read more

This is a long overdue review. This summer, my newly married son and daughter in-law were looking for their first Apt for the fall to move in. After a few weeks of looking, they had no luck. I responded to an ad on apartments.com for one of the buildings he managed one Saturday morning, and he contacted me to see the apartment later that day. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the area, building's history and recent renovations. He showed me multiple apartments in the building that were available, and did not try to talk me into any of them. Other brokers/realtors I reached out to at other companies were incredibly patronizing or tried to take advantage of me -- Joe was the complete opposite. He has been incredibly welcoming, responsive, and approachable. Joe has responded incredibly quickly to every question or maintenance concern (very few!) I have had. My fiancé and I had a great experience working with our broker, Joe Cellucci. We had an apartment lined up with someone else, and it fell through last minute, so we were looking to find something that met all of our needs quickly, and was within our budget. He showed us three apartments, we picked the one that best suited our needs, and within two and a half days, we had signed a lease. Joe wasn't pushy,l. He was warm, respectful, and had a lot of helpful information. He knew the property well, and could answer all of our questions. However, I will say the best thing about working with Joe has been his quick responses at almost any time of day. I'm a nurse and have worked two night shifts in the time we have been corresponding, and he responded to numerous late night texts that I've sent at work when I had a second to sit down and look things over. Joe is renting out a parking space that he KNOWS there is no proof of ownership. He told me himself, and then tried to make me feel dumb when I confronted him. Joe is a liar- makes you think he is doing you a favor but it is only for his own good. I could write a half dozen stories but I will leave with one- he called me SIXTEEN TIMES in one day . He said he needed a key but told me he wasn't in a hurry to get it.... Also, I have heard by law they can only show the rental to perspective renters 30 days in advance. I responded to an ad on craigslist, posted by one of their brokers, Joe Cellucci. He responded quickly, promptly set up a time convenient for us to look at the apartment, and even picked us up from school which saved us a good half hour of public transportation time. He mentioned one other apartment that he thought we might be interested in, but it wasn't what we were looking for, and he didn't try to pressure us to see it. We loveed the apartment and he was nice enough to hold off on showing it to other people who had called about it for the rest of the day while my friend and I seriously thought about it/get the go-ahead from our parents. He told us as much as he knew about the building and the management; it seems like he's been doing business with them for a long time. Joe was very laid back, definitely not overaggressive in trying to make us sign right away, and was even flexible about how much money we had to pay upfront. Despite the fact that we're still undergrads, he didn't treat us poorly or try to take advantage of our minimal experience in renting. In fact he was probably even more helpful - he got the overall rent dropped down , pushed back the start of the lease by over two weeks (the apt was available immediately, he's got us an April 15 start, even though we don't really need it until May), and is giving us the keys early so that it's possible for us to move-in on a weekend. I did find it a little odd that he didn't have (or at least give) business cards and that Liberty Real Estate doesn't seem to have a website. I was never actually at their office so can't make any judgments on that or on the rest of the company. We only dealt with Joe, who was fantastically easy to deal with. read more

Joe has been super attentive and communicative in a professional manner whenever we have an issue or question regarding our apartment. Recently, our oven stopped working on a Sunday evening so I called Liberty and left Joe a message. Further, once we signed the lease, he was nice to answer our call prior to moving; unlike the other agents who do not bother to respond once they are done signing the lease. He did a great job in keeping the apartment ready (nice and clean) by following up with the building management and giving us the keys early so that it's possible for us to move-in early. One thing I liked most about Joe is, he was responsive and helpful even after we signed the lease and moved into apartment. We had some maintenance issue and I tried calling the landlord but no one answered, so I called Joe asking for help and he immediately followed up with the building maintenance personnel and took care of things quite fast. I would say that Joe is really a nice person to deal with. read more

I had a great experience with one of Liberty's realtors, Joe Cellucci. I contacted him through one of the 3rd party housing websites (HotPads) about an apartment in Brookline. He was pretty quick to respond, and requested I call him so that he could tell me more about the apartment. He was very honest with me about everything, and told me that the apartment was a steal and that I should be ready to put down a deposit during the apartment viewing. When I saw the apartment a few days later, I found he was right! The apartment truly was a steal, so I put down a deposit immediately. I appreciated his honesty because if he hadn't expressed such urgency and honesty, I probably wouldn't have landed this apartment. He was also very helpful and patient with communicating with the management company and for explaining the rental application process. After signing the lease, he even gave me a ride so that it would be easier for me to get back to work. Overall, great experience, I don't know what these bad reviews are talking about! read more

I did not end up using this company but they are very unprofessional. First I responded to a craigslist add and when the Realtor ( Andrew) show us apartments we never saw the apartment we wanted to look at. (not to mention he didn't have a car and made me drive all over town). Then he did find us a place we liked but did not get the apartment and that's when the mess begins. First after he told us that he didn't have any more 2 beds in Brighton so he wanted us to look at 3 beds. We were in the market for a nice 2 bed and he suggested we look at cheap 3 brs. Andrew was never trying to help us find what WE were looking for but rather looking to put us in what he wanted us to be in. Then we finally found a place with another agency and a month later he tells us that we owe him 30 bucks for credit checks. ( ever herd of free credit report.com bud?) Now a month later this scumbag cashes my roommates check for 750 bucks with out permission in order to short change him 30 bucks to pay for the credit checks. Needless to say the amount of unprofessionalism there is unheard of. Now to top of this great experience my roommate speaks with Andrew Leavitt and he says that he only shows the apartments and that his boss "Peter" is in charge of the money. so my roomate goes to the office and Peter says Andrew emailed me like 6 times ( it was once and never did he say he would cash a check for 750 bucks to pay for the credit checks) and when my roommate asked why he cashed his checks Peter proceeded to Slander my name by saying it was because of my iffy credit which has nothing to do with him un-ethnically cashing that check. I know this is very long but this needs to get out there. Liberty Realty is EXTREMELY unethical and unprofessional and STAY AWAY. I fyou dont listen then you are in for the WORST RENTAL EXPERIENCE IN YOUR LIFE. All this and we didnt even use those scumbags. thank god. Take our $30 bucks and get a real Job. read more

I came in as a walk-in, looking for an apartment in Allston, and their broker Joe Cellucci showed me tons of apartments in the area within my price range, before I settled on my apartment in a building which they rent and manage exclusively. He didn't try to push me in any particular direction, and gave me helpful details and insight into the situation at each apartment he showed me. Since I've moved in, they've responded promptly and courteously on the couple of occasions I've had to call for help (once for a broken dishwasher & once because I locked myself out). Liberty Real Estate is by far the worst realty company I've ever worked with. Peter, the owner of the company I believe, is the most at fault. He has proven to be an outright liar. They have a sketchy, probably illegal, relationship with Coolidge Realty Trust, the owner of my building. Liberty has been unresponsive to requests, and downright rude when we ran into issues with our building. They also should not be trusted as property managers. When our apartment was without heat, they ignored our calls and gave us incorrect information. Ultimately - Peter told me "it is supposed to warm up later this week, so deal with it" Do not work with them, not worth the hassle, and definitely not worth it to give them their fee. read more

Since we were a little late to the game we were very nervous and had found anything we saw online was going quickly or not very nice. After finding Joe Cellucci through our search we were very lucky. Joe only showed us apartments that were up to the standards we were looking for and was very open and honest with us. He called us as soon as he found something he thought we would like and told us if we wanted it we would have to see it ASAP before it was gone. After finding a few options online, the first of which was from Joe, I decided to make a day trip and check them all out. So I'm going to let you in on a little secret- there are databases with thousands of available properties in the Boston area. These "Brokers" simply smack their logo on a Craigslist ad, post the photos of the property, and put it up on the site. Simple as that. Right? I inquired about an apartment back in January and was directed to Dave. Dave said it wasn't available...then it was....then it wasn't....then showed us a property that was absolutely filthy and overpriced. We still had our heart set on the property we inquired about and managed to see the place on a whim when another broker was there showing the property.....at the end of the day the place was available and the landlord wanted to meet us...then didn't....then did. At this point we were growing tired of the uncertainties and stressed beyond capacity. Because we are all young professionals, we had standards- laundry, parking, etc. We wanted a decent place. Well Dave told one of my roommates that she was picky and "born with a silver spoon in her mouth". First, you don't say that to ANYONE you are trying to lease a property to. Extremely unprofessional. Dave also thought he could call any time of day as well as text. I specifically said I wanted to communicate via email (to have a record) and could talk about 5:00 PM. I just started a job and my phone was constantly going off, when he simply could've emailed me. So we moved forward with the process and needed our backgrounds checked, including a credit check. My other roommate didn't have the hottest credit, so Dave took it upon himself to call her father (whom she put as the contact on her application) and lecture to him that he should teach his daughter about managing her finances. Yes. He went there. When her father backed out of co-signing for her, Dave proceeded to call her mother, ask her personal financial questions (such as how much she makes a year), etc. Now he pissed off BOTH her parents. I called him and pretty much put him in his place (without threatening with a lawyer). Long story short, her father eventually signed. Then we could move forward with the lease. Again, back and forth and finally we had enough. I told David we were out and fed up with the time it was taking to sign the lease, to the rude remarks he made to both my roommates (at this point I felt horrible because I inquired in the first place). The property manager eventually called me and asked me what the issue was. I spoke to her and we both agreed we would cut out the middle man (Dave) and execute the lease without him. Which we did. Well we still had to pay the broker's fee, and Dave did not forget at all and continuously pestered us to get to him. We were going to fight it and tried to by asking for a copy of the application to provide to a lawyer, which he never did send (even though we requested numerous times). At the end of the day we just agreed to forget it and put it behind us. To this day, though, we still think that Dave did NOT deserve that chunk of change (1 month's rent=broker's fee) and would never recommend Liberty Real Estate to anyone. Two stars because he ensured one of my roommates that there was reliable transportation to downtown at the end of our street. He knows his public transportation. But I think we could've figured that out on our own. When it comes to finding an apartment in Boston, don't go with a Broker. Period. Find out who the owner is and contact them directly. Brokers are worse than landlords. read more

I saw an ad for a studio and e-mailed the poster immediately. I heard back relatively quickly and Joe Cellucci seemed pretty nice in person. When he took me to the apartment, though, it was seriously a dump. There were major holes in the wall--gashes, not tiny pinpoint holes--and he couldn't tell me if or when the walls might be fixed. I tried to ask if I moved in, could it get taken care of immediately, and he was very non-committal, saying he really didn't know. He told me this was the best I could find for my budget (I wanted to spend a maximum of 1450) and it would go really fast because it was a great studio. When I said I would think about it for a few days, he told me it would definitely be gone and then left me outside on the street, not even driving me back to his office. I was heartbroken at the thought of moving into such a trashy place, but that evening a different realtor, from a different company (Kunevich and Lau) showed me seven different apartments that all fell into my price range and were all lovely. He will start with something outrageous and then come down to make you think he gave you a deal but is not. He is like a hawk, ready to pounce at anything you say to use it to his advantage. Moving to Boston during the weekend of September first was crazy, but trying to find a decent apartment in my price range was even crazier. A number of realtors told me I would have to jump on the first place I could find, regardless of whether or not I liked the place. Joe Cellecci took on the challenge of finding the best apartment for me and continued to look even though I turned down the first four or five places he showed me (most of them were pretty decent, by Boston standards). One evening Joe called and excitedly told me he had found the perfect apartment for me - one I could move in to immediately rather than having to wait until October like a number of the other ones I looked at. I could not be happier with the apartment he found for me - it's quite fantastic and met all the requirements I gave Joe. I am thankful for joe and all his hard work in searching for the right apartment for me. Emailed about a listing on craigslist and received a quick call from David. Don't know anything about this Joe who is getting bad reviews but David was really nice and set up a time and showed me an apartment. I didn't end up taking it but overall he was friendly and honest and seemed to be familiar with what he was doing. read more
