In November 2019, our heat broke and would not work consistently. We sent a maintenance request for it to be fixed. Torrey assured us that he was trying everything that he could to fix our heat, and sent out the poor maintenance people (who are VERY nice and awesome but are just not HVAC people and did not know how to fix our heat) several times to fiddle with our heat. We sent email after email, getting sporadic responses from Torrey and spending the winter in several layers of sweatshirts and pants. Finally, on FEBRUARY 24th 2020, I could not take it anymore. I sent an email to Brookfield properties letting them know that I would withhold my rent until our heat was fixed and that the Cambridge Housing Authority was sending out an inspector. I received a call the next day from Jamie saying that the heat would be fixed immediately. I am still so confused as to why we had to wait so long for something that seemed like a quick fix. PLEASE be careful if you decide to live here. Especially if you have small children, pets, or someone who is elderly. Besides freezing, we were okay, but I would be nervous for someone who is not perfectly healthy.

Also within walking distance to Central. Prices: So the prices for the 1 bedroom has come down significantly. Now, the 580 sq ft bedroom are on the market for about $1700!!! When I was looking around Feb, the prices were around $2100. I'm guessing the referral fee is around $750 because that's the referral fee for 100 Landsdowne. Gym: 91 Sidney has the full machines available. The gym is accessible to other residents within the University Park system though. Parking: If you sign up on the first day, you park at this deck for $100. If you live at KBL or Loft23, parking is also assigned to this deck. Cons: View: The view from the 1 bedroom is pretty ugly. I think I saw bricks. There are no good views from the 1 bedroom apartments as far as I can tell.

I ended up having to find a place in Boston from afar (and then move sight unseen) and was able to easily browse open apartments on their website and then work with a staff person to get photos of the place I'd eventually live in and secure a lease. Moving in was super easy--I think I just paid a $250 deposit apart from first month's rent--as was moving out. I leased a one bedroom apartment while I lived here and it was clean and spacious. The bedroom was big (several feet to each wall on every side of a queen bed) and there was a walk in closet that had room for not only my dresser, but also storage space for plenty of boxes--lots of cabinet space in the kitchen and a coat closet in the main room, too. All of the appliances were new and nice and I only once had an appliance issue (an electrical problem with the dishwasher, which the staff fixed right away). I'd also never had a washer and dryer in an apartment before, so that felt like a luxury. All of the appliances were energy- and water-efficient, too, which was great. I lived on the sixth floor of my building on the side facing Washington Street and the bus depot. I never especially had street noise issues and only once had a noise problem with a neighbor. I also lived next to the elevator and never heard it. I will say that even facing mostly away from the train tracks, I heard (and felt) the trains constantly. It didn't especially bother me since I already slept with ear plugs in and my bedroom was carpeted, but I can see how it would be an annoyance for some. I always found the MetroMark staff to be polite, helpful and responsive (I most recently most often was in touch with Jaz in the office and Joel at the desk--both great people!). The one time I needed after hours maintenance help (small issue with my AC during the summer), Joel was super helpful. I did also think that the building management did an excellent job trying to keep residents safe and informed during the pandemic. I never really used the common spaces at the buildings, though they looked nice. I did find it a little odd that the TV lounges didn't have cable service, though the computer/study area did have good wifi and a printer. The one thing that I did use a bit was the gym--nice weights, treadmills and bikes, but it felt small sometimes for how many people were using it (especially at night). I never had a car in Boston and it was nice that the building had several Zip Cars in the parking lot, though I eventually preferred using the Enterprise rental location down Washington Street for longer trips. The location of the building and the neighborhood were both outstanding. I worked downtown and my commute door to door via the orange line was about 35-40 minutes. Jamaica Plain is a great neighborhood and having the expansive green spaces of the arboretum, Franklin Park and the Southwest Corridor so close was fantastic. South and Centre streets in JP are great little main streets with lots of good restaurants and bars and independent shops. One thing that I didn't love about my lease terms (though the language was very clear) was that the month to month option was extremely expensive. That said, I renewed my lease twice and my rent did not go up one dollar in three years, which was amazing to me.

First and foremost, if you intend on having any unexpected life changes I would suggest a different complex. MetroMark makes you sign a 90 (NINETY) Day Lease Break agreement, and I fairly certain when you are breaking a lease you generally do not know THREE months ahead of time that you are breaking this lease. In my case it is that I was offered a job on the west coast. Secondly, they also do not allow subletting. So even if you find a suitable person to take over your lease, they won't allow it. You also are not allowed to add a roommate until your lease is over - so couples looking to potentially move in together please be aware of this. Lastly, they will not work with you on the renewal amounts. This renewal cycle they wanted to raise my rent $450 - and while the potential new renter I had in line was willing to sign the renewal if they met him halfway, I was told that the amounts were as they stand. Yes, it is a pet friendly community, but most people don't pick up after their dogs (I am a dog owner and while I appreciate the available dog bags people rarely use them). The only reason this is a two star and not a one star because I am frankly very angry they are not willing to work with their residents when it comes to life changing events, is the cleaning staff is very kind and do their best to keep the building clean. Do with this review what you will, but please make sure you take a look at your leases before you sign them - especially since this place has shown they're just in it for the money grab. Ask for a lease example for any place you apply to and make sure the terms fit what you are looking for, because frankly if the last three years have taught us anything, you never know what life throws you and I suggest finding a more sympathetic apartment complex.

The people at the front desk are very nice and try to get to know you. There's parking for tenants and you can reserve guest parking (cheaper than anywhere else nearby). The garage attendant has his moments but it's all good. Front facing views are great - the park, Charles river, state house, prudential center. Not bad! Overall an enjoyable place to live.

First of all, the Yelp ratings for this building have always been terrible and only recently improved when the management incentivized residents with a restaurant gift card to post reviews. So there's that. As others have noted, there are continued issues with the elevators and construction/noise from the Four Seasons across the street. In late 2019, when I was six months pregnant, I had to plead with the management to create a safe environment to walk our dog. At least twice, we were nearly hit by cars peeling around corners because the construction from the Four Seasons eliminated sidewalks and didn't create temporary walkways for pedestrians at that time. Unfortunately, 30 Dalton was unable to rectify this. This past fall, as Covid cases were rising, I had to ask management repeatedly to stop hosting gatherings in unavoidable common spaces. They had happy hours, manicure, and massage events (in the middle of a pandemic!) in the lobby of the building. Finally, they realized how unsafe this was and stopped. But only after multiple requests. The finishes in the apartments are very low quality. If we tried to vacuum while more than two lights were on, or use the Instapot and blender at the same time, we would blow the circuit. Several times we had to complain about trash smells from the garbage room wafting through the vents and into our apartment. Towards the end of our stay, in November 2020, we dealt with loud parties from other units. This never happened pre-pandemic and I can only assume it's because they lowered their standards for new tenants in an effort to lease units. We ended up moving to a new apartment managed by Related and it's night and day. The concierge is extremely professional and prompt in response. Further, we received three months free rent so are now living in an apartment that is 2x the size for approximately the same price we paid at 30 Dalton--and, instead of living across the street from constant construction, we are two blocks from Boston Common. To be clear, there are some very good people working the front desk at 30 Dalton (Zack, Marvin, and Carlos among them), but there are also some real bozos who never look up, ignore you when you walk in, and can't be bothered to push a button that opens the door when your hands are full with groceries you're towing a stroller. It's the little things that really add up to create an experience and, unfortunately, all those little things made ours a less than positive one here.

The front desk staff is great, but the general manager (Anthony B.) & his team blames the staff for the issues. It's the management's fault for renting to college kids (even though they claim not to, which is a lie). I lived here for 2+ years and the quality of life experience has plummeted. Save yourself the money and live in one of the many other luxury buildings in Boston. I ended up moving out after a slew of terrible experiences, and then was told by Anthony that he was "sorry that happened".
