I went in due to extreme sensitivity, and was told I needed a root canal and crown to save my tooth. This would take 2 hours (this should have been the first and biggest red flag) but being in some pain and already there, I agreed. Sure enough, he went to work on the root canal, 3d printed the "crown" in front of my eyes (2nd red flag) and continued. The crown turned out to be a big filling printed to fit into my molar and glued to it. There was no actual crown or cap. Just a glued piece of something that needed to be filed down along with other molar to keep the bite (3rd red flag). I'd never needed any major dental work in my life and did not know there was supposed to be an actual crown, hence the name. 1 year later, the sensitivity came back which turned into pain. I decided to see a different dentist to find out the root canal was improperly done and got infected over time. I needed to have the molar that was supposed to be saved removed along with the one next to it! NEVER again am I going back there. The damage was too extensive which also explains why his license has been taken away in the past.

I made an appointment at the KCHC Silver Lake location for a 'Transfer of Care' as I wanted to see…read morea dentist closer to home. I had been to KCHC at the 14th Avenue location prior and My Chart had me due for a regular cleaning along with a couple of other procedures. I am currently unemployed with no insurance, therefore, must pay out-of-pocket for my dental. After paying $119.99, the appointment started as expected with the technical assistant taking x-rays of my mouth. After which, Dr. Knopp came in, intoduced himself and then looked in my mouth. He poked his tool into the not-yet-healed site of a tooth that had been extracted one week prior and I flinched due to the tenderness of my gum. He blamed my flinching on the tooth next to the extraction site - he didn't poke that tooth but I didn't say anything because he was clearly becoming agitated for some reason. Maybe he was having a bad day? Then he asked why I made the appointment and I said it was for 'Transfer of Care.' I also wanted to schedule a regular cleaning and talk about partial denture options. I had been told by another dentist that it would be wise to get partials for my missing teeth sooner than later, before my other teeth begin to shift. I wanted the regular cleaning done beforehand to remove the stains so that a partial could be accurately matched. Dr. Knopp went on to explain that I had a bad case of periodontal disease and have serious bone loss. I wasn't at all suprised by the news as this wouldn't be the first time I've heard it - I've seen 3 other dentists this year, they all told me. From there, things went south because he appeared to become even more agitated, and with doom-and-gloom, explained how my teeth would fall out (as if it would happen tomorrow) and said he would only do a deep-type of cleaning. I explained that I couldn't afford it. I told him I was interested in just a regular cleaning at this time because that's what I could afford, he asked, "What is the point?" Before I could explain the obvious, he said, "There is no point in it." The way he said it confused me, I just looked at him. In my mind, I was questioning if he was referring to my teeth or having some sort of break down. I think Dr. Knopp expected me to be completely devastated by my situation but because I remained calm, he mistook my lack of interest in being sold a plethora of expensive treatments, as outright denial of my periodotal issues (because that's what he wrote in My Chart). Anyway, he went on to discuss only one partial denture option. When I asked if a different option was available and described the type of partials my mother has, he said, "I could have one like that made for $700 but you won't like it at all." I told him that my mother absolutely loves both of hers and while I understand it's not the Cadillac of partial dentures, it's what I can afford at this time. I'm missing two upper molars on the right side and one lower molar on the left. I need something to keep my teeth from shifting, something that would enable me to chew food, and something that would help me present myself better during job interviews - so that in the future, I can get dental insurance through my employer, which would make following a dental treatment plan for my periodontal disease much more affordable. The mere mention of my mother's partials made him even angrier and he kept saying over and over under his breath, "What would be the point - it's more trouble than it's worth." There wasn't a thing I could think to say as I was simply mind-blown. Never in my life have I ever been spoken to like that by a dentist. He then went on to say, "You can't pick and choose what you want done. If you want to pick and choose you'll have to see a private dentist." This was by far the worst dental experience of my life - nothing at all was accomplished. The appointment went from 'Transfer of Care' to 'End of Care' at this location for me. There's a little more to this but I'm not given the amount of characters I would need to elaborate. Needless to say, I'll be looking for a private dentist who's kind and not carrying a 2-ton chip on his shoulder. Dr. Knopp's poor behavior toward me was inexcusable and left me feeling like less of a person. I feel that I'm owed a genuine apology and a full refund.

I get it that an x-ray of the abscess spot was prudent but multiple x-rays of all the lower teeth on BOTH sides plus an additional whole jaw x-ray seemed bemusing. It would seem more sensible from a cost & customer perspective to take a shot of the scene & then consider if more is needed rather than shoot the whole movie & throw 95% out. As the single shot of the abscess point was sufficient for the consultation, all the extra procedures seemed redundant. I was not in pain so i took the first available appointment. Got in fairly quickly.....at the appointment, i explained i didn't want to invest in a crown on that tooth. He shaved off the rough edge and i was good to go! He is always open to a logical conversation about the most economical way to solve my tooth problem..... .and i appreciate that he's not the kind to be doing unnecessary work on my mouth to run up the bill!
