I love old dark wood bars like theirs! Sat for dinner and with my cousin and his wife and asked waiter what they're known for and he said steaks and their scampi. I ordered the 16 oz filet and scampi. Salad with blue cheese was basic old school but so damn good!! The filet was perfect med rare and was melt in your mouth. But the shrimp scampi!......OMFG!! Have had scampi a 100 times all over but never have I had scampi where the shrimp were crunchy....maybe egged and floured lightly to get that crunchy texture......but it was insanely good. Cousin had a prime rib that he loved and his wife had chicken Marsala that she loved as well. Too bad I live 4 hrs away or I'd go there right now. I'm drooling thinking about that meal. One of the last family owned decent dining out restaurants in the area. Old school Italian eatery in an older building. Kind of dark interior with a bar and tables. I came for the shrimp scampi, because it is one of the best I have ever had. Lightly fried shrimp with butter and garlic sauce. Every meal is served with homemade bread, a salad and a choice of a side. They have pasta, steaks and other seafood, but I have never got beyond the shrimp because I don't live locally, and I always want the shrimp if I come. I love the old school salad with Italian dressing. Service was great, and for the amount of food you get I feel the prices are fair. read more

Staff is more professional than most in the area and you will get tablecloth Service. Southern Italian food done well in the old-fashioned way. It is considered a little pricey, but it's actually still quite reasonable. Definitely a step up from the other More, mom and pop local Italian places. read more

Love the chicken in the scampi or Marsala but not the sauce so I always order chicken scampi or chicken Marsala with the sauce on the side . I enjoy it so much better this way. I can control how much sauce I use . Unfortunately the last time we were here the waitress came out after we had eaten our appetizer and salad to tell me the kitchen refuses to put the sauce in the side? I said I don't understand why ? She said IDK it's weird and how hard is it to put the sauce in a dish in the side made no sense to her . I said I guess I have no choice then I'll try it . Needless to say one bite and I knew I couldn't eat it that way so I sent it back . I was so disappointed. I came that night just for that meal and I was hangry lol I wasn't asked if a wanted something else but they did take it off my bill . Now I hesitate to return . Is this the new policy or was it just the cook that night I have no idea . It's a bummer. I have to giggle at some of the reviews saying they serve homemade bread . According to our waitress they buy it fresh from Weis everyday . It is good , but they don't make it. I will say the tiramisu martini is delicious. Went to Lib's for a valentines dinner and it was okay. The highlights of the night were the bread and the salad. However, I was served a raw steak, when I ordered it medium. The menu for valentine's day was smaller, as expected, but I asked if I could have a side of the scampi sauce (which is already made as they had shrimp scampi and chicken scampi on the menu for the night) and the kitchen refused to give it to me. Furthermore, when you go to a high end place, if they serve you a raw steak you would get a discount, or offered a free drink, dessert, etc. But we payed full price, when I had to send my steak back and wait another 9 minutes for it while my boyfriend was eating. Came here without a reservation on a whim. Amazingly they got us right in. The place was packed!!! The place is set up really nice. The decor is like a multi generational theme. First time visit to this restaurant after living here for decades. Why we never went is a bit of a mystery. Anyway, last night we went for the first time with some friends after an Elmira College event. The restaurant was very crowded, but we were seated promptly. Our server came over with menus and the wine list to let us know what was not available. That was okay because the wine list is quite extensive. That was the last we saw of him. But also okay because we recruited Jamie to take care of us. She was terrific. So is the menu. We all ordered different things except we all had the house salad with their home dressing and crumbled blue cheese. Very good! The portions are huge! Very difficult to finish everything, so a lot went home in boxes. Next night's dinner. When you walk in the door you know you are in an Italian restaurant because the smell of garlic smacks you in the face. If you like garlic, as I do, then you like this smell. I'm back home after dining at this place, and I feel a little sick. All the "Best of the Twin Tiers" nonsense aside, this is not especially good Italian food. It just isn't. The salad was fine. But Veal Marsala entree was absolutely swimming in thick, heavy cream sauce, with an unbelievable quantity of salt. That was all you could taste. The food at Olive Garden is better than this. Veal Marsala is the world's simplest dish, and it does not come buried in cream sauce. I suspect what I got was mushrooms out of a jar, about a quart of cream sauce that had been sitting on the stove all day, and some veal. If what you want is as many calories as humanly possible to pack onto a plate, you'll love this joint. Also, I asked for a glass of Chianti, which should be a reflex in an Italian place, and was informed, with a straight face, that they didn't serve it. They did have Merlot and Cabernet, however. I caved in and ordered the Merlot, and was presented with an enormous glass of thin, sweet, cheap Merlot-like liquid. The decor is kind of tired, too. Ceiling panels that are coming loose, autographed pictures of celebrities on the wall, low lighting, grimy carpet. All i got were a few pieces of chicken swimming in a red soup of sauce with some onions and a peppers. Terrible. My wife had chicken parm. She said eh.. ok but not great. Omg!! So so good tonight! Got the filet mignon and shrimp scampi!! I HAVE NEVER HAD A BETTER FILET THAN HERE!! Unquestionably the best ever! 16 oz, hard sear lightly salted and basted in garlic butter! Just delicious. The scampi consists of 4 large shrimp, very lightly dusted with a flour coating and fried and then topped with garlic butter--ah-mazing! With a side of spaghetti, salad and bread. I brought more than half home and at around $50 , it's 3 meals for me! Hubby got the same but with chicken scampi. You can't beat it! read more

If you want a snapshot into Lib's success, we went 40 years ago to celebrate my Grandparents anniversary and we went last week for my parents 75th birthdays and they are still serving fantastic food. We had a party of 20 in the far back room and the service and food were impeccable. Everyone raved about their meal. I started with the Italian dressing on the salad and it is what defines this place. Simple, yet so tasty. I ordered the shrimp Marsala and my wife ordered the shrimp down under and we split them. Both were outstanding. The Marsala is creamy and well seasoned and the shrimp down under had artichokes that worked so well. The shrimp also were perfectly fried with a light batter. My mom had the chicken piccata and the chicken stayed crispy even though the sauce was generous. Amazing. The worst experiences I've had dining out usually have been when places are unprepared for large parties and Lib's excels here, hence the "Supper Club" name. But going back to the opening comment about being here 40 years ago. For a place to stay consistent over four decades is truly amazing. And this isn't a one-off experience. I've been many times in between the 40 years, and whether there as a table of 2,4,8 or 20, you get fresh bread a salad and an impeccable entree and leave fully satisfied. I've been in charlotte for many years now and with Morettis closed and now torn down, Lib's is the only iconic place left in Elmira and the quality is still top notch! read more

This is a great neighborhood gem off the beaten path. It's very charming. It feels like your walking into a mom and pop restaurant from the 90's. The autographed celeb photos that grace the walls are fun to see. The service was terrific! I was able to email them the night before for a reservation on a Saturday night. The restaurant was deservedly busy but the staff kept up. The host that seated us and the server that took care of us were top notch. The portions here are insane (in a good way)! The 18 oz prime rib felt more like 24 oz. It was cooked to perfection. The scampi/white sauce was tasty but be warned that it is only for serious garlic lovers...they don't hold back! We went here because my parents talked about how they use to come here for dates (30 years ago). My dad was reminiscing about their shrimp scampi. We decided to take the trip up to enjoy dinner. Let me start out by saying come hungry! So much food but so happy for leftovers. Everything was awesome. They know how to use garlic. I tried a little bit of everyone's sauce and they were all delicious. If I came again, I'd probably get the shrimp scampi over linguini. Lib's has rated five stars every time I've been there over the years. In addition to fabulous food that doesn't come pre-cooked and heated or out of a can, you get large portions that even my husband can't finish. And that's saying a lot. Don't forget dessert. Never forget dessert. There isn't a standard dessert menu so I'm always surprised by the choices. The last time I was there I had a slice of blueberry cheesecake that was scrumptious. The staff is friendly, outgoing and helpful. I could say much more about Lib's but if I do I might miss tonight's dinner reservation. Fair word of warning: portions are meant for very large and hungry people. Being familiar with their entree sizes, I went for an appetizer (as my main course). Big mistake; there was enough greens and beans to feed a small family. Feeling bad about leaving the dish - which was extremely bland - partially eaten, I decided to get the leftovers to go. They stayed in the fridge for four days, sadly ending up in the trash. I do not go to restaurants with intention to bring any food back home, unless I am specifically planning to do (only) a takeout. I know that the place is popular, having been a go-to restaurant for many Italian-Americans for decades, and I am sure they will continue to attract more clientele, but this is not - by any means - close to fine dining. The waitress was nice, and did her best to accommodate our needs, but there was only so much she could have done. If you like Pudgie's Pizza, you will love Lib's. Nostalgia is a powerful marketing tool. It can make any bland dish taste like something spectacular. read more

I had filet mignon and it was the best cut of filet I've ever had . Tender, juicy and delicious .. it was prepared in butter , the service was spot on and timely.
