Nobody wants too deal with lice, especially to admit having it. But if you've got small children in daycare, it happens. I got the call on a Friday morning around 9am. As soon as I picked up the 3yo, I headed to get the over-the-counter treatment and get to work. But knowing how much time he spends up close with us and his brother, I feared that he wasn't the only one. So, when I'd asked Google what to do when your kid has lice, and there was an ad for Lice Ladies, I thought it was probably a good idea to get us all checked. Also, I have long thick hair that I didn't trust the others in my house to deal with.
So my husband called and we got a 2pm appointment that day for all 4 of us. They'll only guarantee the treatment if you bring everyone in the house to be checked at the same time.
The space is behind a bank. It had a waiting room, two treatment rooms, an office, and bathroom. We waited briefly in the waiting room before heading to the back treatment room. There was a tv with several DVDs, some coloring books and crayons, and a few small plastic toys to keep the kids entertained.
She started with our 7yo son, who had the shortest hair. As she worked, she explained what she was doing, what she was finding, and how the treatment progression worked. Next up was the 3yo, then my husband, then me. She found bugs and nits in the boys' hair, nits only in mine and my husband's. She took 1 hour to do the 3 males (each treating twice) and 1 hour just for my thick and long hair. The treatment chemicals are natural and organic and smell ok. They did leave my hair feeling sticky. She explained as she worked that my sons and I would have to come back for re-treatment within 7-10 days.
When we paid (using Healthcare Spending Account dollars), she scheduled our retreatment for the following Saturday at 10am (first of the day). We also got some prevent spray, which she said was mostly essential oils since the scent keeps the lice away.
The woman doing our treatment was much less talkative. It probably helped that she found nothing in the 1 head she checked and 3 heads she retreated. She explained how we needed to do weekly checks on the crown and over the ears. If we find anything within 30 days, they'll get 1 free retreatment
It's not cheap, but it was worth it to have us all treated at once, especially my hair, and to get the reassurance from people who know what they're doing. Also, anyone else have kids who prefer to take direction from others? read more
