Having walked into the restaurant starving, in the mood for celebration after getting made redundant, I managed to fill myself with a single serving and then some. I was stuffed for both meals. The butter herbed chicken was very buttery, and with a strong hint of coconut. Can't exactly be sure what herbs were used, but I did like the aroma of whatever they used. The chicken was nicely fried, not too dry. Better than I expected. I've never eaten any similar dishes so there's not much for me to compare. As for the chicken rice... ok in my humble opinion, I know a thing or two about chicken rice, so let's break it down: 1. Chicken: The chicken is steamed, and quite tender and juicy. TIck. 2. Rice: made with chicken juices. Tick. 3. Sauces: lacking thick dark soy sauce. Buzz. 4. Pickled veggies: Not sure why they were there, apart from filling an empty slot in the multi-sectioned serving dish. Buzz. 5. Fresh veggies: bean sprouts, not a big deal I suppose, but most places use choy sum. Meh. 6. Soup: At least it looks like it's soup made from whole food ingredients, not chicken powder soup like at some places. Tick. I thought the service was fine - got served quickly enough and food came quickly enough. A nice eatery and a good option for that part of town, particularly since the Asian options in Brisbane City aren't exactly good.

It didn't have the nicest flavor and I just couldn't believe how greasy my thin vermicelli noodles were. My friend liked his curry chicken with rice. My other friend ordered the laksa and I will tell you that you'll find incredible laksa in Sunnybank. The noodles were OK but the soup base was just not as spicy and full of flavor. I found it all pretty bland. The eggplant was tough as well. The pearls that came with the bubble tea were sticking together which is never a good sign. I was not particularly impressed and this place is definitely not on my top 30 of places to eat or recommend in Brisbane.

It impressed me with their interesting and filling meals and their ability to produce such quality out of a tiny kitchen with not much more than a couple of electric hot plates to work with. Plus it had a cool vibe and wasn't so crazy busy that I ever had a long wait - and that's still the situation today. So when I heard that the owners were opening a new cafe in South Brisbane and my Instagram feed started filling up with some of their even more unique sounding food, I was in. Located at the bottom of an office building on the corner of Merivale & Russell Streets (more Russell St side), it's a little difficult to find. Look for green. Parking around there isn't great but if you're willing to pay, there is Secure Parking underneath and it's across the road from the Convention Centre. You can also try your luck at street parking near Musgrave Park OR if there's something you need from the IGA, consider parking underneath there and getting parking validated for 2 free hours and it's a short walk between office buildings from there. Ginger+Green take their coffee seriously and offer a selection of 3/4 blends (recently one from Dukes Espresso and a few from Seven Seeds) that you can choose from for your espresso or you can opt for one of their filter coffees, either pour over or batch brew (currently served chilled). I've had both the cold drip batch brew and long blacks and they are consistently excellent. Their menu has already gone through a seasonal change with the first one having a version of their sweet potato and leek pancakes with eggplant kasundi that I always loved at Ponycat. Alas they have not made the new menu but with options like Carrot & Coconut Hotcakes ($18), Beef & Jalapeno Croquettes w corn puree, poached eggs & black garlic aioli ($18) and Forest Mushrooms with goat's cheese, crumbed crispy poached egg & kale pesto ($19), I can't imagine there will be complaints! Plus the infamous crispy potato skins with pulled beef, bacon marmalade, blue cheese, crispy prosciutto & fried eggs ($18) remained. There are gluten-free options and staff are really lovely about making substitutions for allergies, although you are asked to not make substitutions during peak times if possible. They're pretty substantial meals so I have only ever had the now-gone pancakes from the hot menu but there are delicious fruit chia puddings with yoghurt, granola bowls and pre-made bagels that you can pick up to take-away or, like I did, have in as a small breakfast. I've had a chia pudding which was actually really substantial and fresh, which is just what I wanted. I've sampled the crispy potato skins and can completely recommend them as absolutely delicious if you're up for a much heartier breakfast and a serious punch of flavour! I haven't been for lunch but the takeaway options look great and there are some great cheap options available, according to the blackboard outside with the specials written on it. With fantastic coffee, delicious food and absolutely lovely staff and service, Ginger + Green has become a new favourite!

I don't think I'd order the black rice again (the one at my Thai Aucherflower, is pretty hard to beat, and it didn't live up to the regular I'd get in SF), however, the piineapple tart- OMG, phenomenal. The New Zealand Natural at Southbank remains my last hope, the only place where I can get frozen fruit flo - now rebranded as Yo Natural. It seems in this fandangled era of fancy gelati, Max Brenners and Freestyles, there's no room in the market for the humble frozen yoghurt. Isn't that why Yogenfrutz went bust last year? This is not true. New Zealand Natural's 'Yo Natural' remains the creamiest, healthiest frozen yoghurt range available in mango or berry flavour. This dessert is so good it doesn't even count as dessert so you could go get gelati afterwards without worrying about your thighs.

I was lucky enough to work in a store when I was younger that stocked Mayfield Chocolates, and let me tell you that not one shift went by that I wouldn't leave with some purchases of my own. The great thing about Mayfields is that the chocolates are made fresh in Brisbane rather than a huge production line factory down south. The other thing I love is the choice of flavours. There's the tradition favourites such as cherry liquor, caramel and praline, but it's the interesting flavours such as lavendar ganache, lemon myrtle and rose water that really sets Mayfield above the rest. The use of Australian flavours and ingredients makes the chocolates a fantastic gift idea for any overseas visitors. If you have a sweet tooth (or a mouth full of them like I do) then Mayfield Chocolates of Wickham Terrace needs to be a port of call for you soon.

What I love at Mayfield Chocolates is the pack your own box option. You can choose the amount and type of chocolates you want, and also the box they'll come in. I first discovered Mayfield Chocolates when a friend gave me a the prettiest oblong wooden box. I had no idea that it would contain chocolates, but it did. Four delicious, gourmet chocolates nestled in their tiny little paper cups inside the box. She'd chosen the flavours specifically for me and the box was something I could keep even after the chocolates were consumed (which let's face it didn't take long!). Mayfield specialises in native Australian flavours and you can pick from fillings like Australian Kakadu plum jelly, lemon myrtle and macadamia praline, Queensland pineapple ganache, Tasmanian leatherwood & Queensland ginger ganache, and my favourite: Australian native aniseed ganache in dark chocolate. Located in the hip…read morearea of Rosalie - a kind of sub-suburb of Paddington, near the Milton border - this store offers the usual selection of delicious ice-creams common to Cold Rock Ice Creamery (you choose an ice cream and extras; then watch them crush candies or chocolates into your ice cream in front of you), except it's more of a cool meeting place than most Cold Rock stores. I myself and many others (if the queues are anything to go by) come to Cold Rock Rosalie for desert after having eaten at a nearby restaurant. Even when your stomach is bursting to the seams after one of Bali Grill's extra-large curries or a hefty, tasty burger from Grill'd, there always seems to be room left for Cold Rock's ice cream (and I'm usually more of a yoghurt lover than an ice cream fan). The most popular combos at Cold Rock are cookies-and-cream ice cream with smashed M&M's and Oreo's; chocolate ice cream with smashed Snickers and Maltesers; Aussie Vanilla ice cream with smashed strawberries and chocolate fudge; and bubblegum ice cream with smashed Flake and Gummy Bears. When it comes to any of these combos, you can't go wrong.
