The farm is welcoming and unique, family friendly and appeals to all ages. My daughter (11) and I enjoyed feeding the animals and walking around the property. The shop sells cheese and other local foods (tortillas, salsa, cookies) but no milk. There is soda and water for sale as well. The restaurant is only open limited days (Thur-Sun), so we didn't check it out. It's a bit dusty and rustic, as you would expect for a farm! Would recommend and return, but this is not a "touristy" place, it's a working farm. read more

This is a must whenever we are in the Fabens/Clint area. The asadero cheese is absolutely delicious and you can taste the freshness. We also brought back some frozen green chiles and some mild guajillo chiles. We make sure to bring a cooler so we can transport our goodies back to Phoenix. read more

What a fun day! Food was great and my grandson loved it! The petting zoo was so fun. Inexpensive way to entertain kids.

We headed here on Saturday around 2pm and it was pretty busy. Getting here is quite easy and it is not a far drive from El Paso. We decided to walk around first and then head to the little convenience store after. As soon as you walk in the entrance you are greeted by cute donkeys and a huge water tank. There are cows, llamas, goats, deer, cute little sheep, chickens, roosters, and a huge camel to name a few! We thought there was going to be a "petting section," but there wasn't. There is a huge pond in the middle where we heard that you can sometimes fish in it for an extra fee. There are also little boats you can rent, but on this day it was closed. There is a huge playground for kids to play on and a few tables to sit for snacks. We saw two mini ponies and for $5 your young one can ride them around! The store is small and there are various treats and snacks to buy! We had a great time here and glad we visited as we are avid animal lovers! *You can buy a small bag of corn feed to feed the animals for $1!!!! read more

We had such a great time. My baby loved the petting zoo. We had no idea it was so close to home. Loved the fact that it's free to enter the park, bu if you feel so inclined you can, A) donate at the designated donation boxes, B) buy the bags of feed for $1 each at the little market they have which also Carrie's drinks, candies, chips etc, or C) you can do both lol. They have cows horses, bulls, peacocks, bunnies, ostriches, kangaroos, donkeys, and more! They also have a little play structure for the kids which my little one was having a blast one. A little out dated but it did the job lol. There's a steakhouse on the property which we will try the next time we travel out there cause we will be back. Nice little place to get out to. read more

Honestly, this is where the true asadero is made. It's worth the trip, the cost and the time. I always try to go there when I'm in El Paso. I loved going to this place when I grew up in El Paso, and I still do. If you don't know how to prepare asaderos, they're easy. Peel off a couple of slices and throw them in a non-stick pan. Let the bottom get golden brown, flip them over, let the other side get golden brown, then plop it in a fresh tortilla with just a touch of salt to taste. THAT is an asadero. This stuff goes great in beans, on top of a sautéed medley of onions, peppers, and tomatoes, on top of a medium-rare ribeye grilled over the coals, or just in a sandwich (without cooking). If you're from out of town, you can refrigerate them and them them as cold as possible (almost frozen, but not quite). Pack them in your luggage and return them to the fridge as soon as you get home. You can freeze the stuff you don't want to eat right away. I usually buy 4-6 packs (each pack contains 10) and try to pick up more each time I return. You'll love this place like I do! read more

The only reason to go to San Eli is to buy some cheese and pet some goats. Unfortunately there isn't a whole lot else you can do in SE (visiting the Historic Art District is my second favorite thing to do in SE) so you know...when in Rome. I love that all of the animals are well fed (beyond the farm feeding the animals, dried corn is available in the store to feed most of the animals). The animals have access to water and a shaded area, but I just wish LD would do more to make the area aesthetically pleasing. I love petting all of the animals, but they're all so dusty (no, not dirty...dusty). But I always seem to fold under the adorable stare of the donkeys and end up petting all of the animals. The animals at LD do change out, but there's always a ton of different animals which makes the drive that much more worth it. The animals that don't change out are the camel, buffalo, chickens, bunnies, ostriches, goats, peacocks, and some deer-like animals. The donkeys change out, but they always have a few around. I'm unsure if the donkeys are young or just ridiculously small in stature. Either way, they're all eat-your-heart-out adorable. And the bigger pens change between horses and cows...so kind of luck of the draw what you'll run into over there. The lake...er...umm...pond. I've heard a lot of people call it a lake, but c'mon guys...it's a pond. It's dirty as hell, but it's just another thing I love about LD. You can rent out these pedal boats and do a couple of circles around the LD pond...awesome. Or you can fish (not sure what kind of fish are in the pond...my moneys on catfish). Or you can just take pictures of the ducks and swans. I usually end up doing the latter. The store is pretty cool before and I always save it for the end of the trip so I can leave with a bunch of dairy products. Of course they sell the infamous Azadero cheese, but you can also buy eggs, butter, milk...basically anything you'd expect from a dairy farm. I never leave without cheese and butter, minimum. Sure it could use improvements, but it's a great stop when in San Eli. read more

Love this place not only because of the food but because of the menagerie they keep out back. I had originally went to get some queso habanero but apparently you better get there early to get that. I ended up settling for queso jalapeno and a visit to the zoo out back. We had a blast at the Licon Dairy. My two year old was able to feed all the animals and walk around and really enjoy himself. The petting part is free and you can just walk around. There's a small l, very outdated, rusted park that needs an upgrade and a paint job but it's a place to see animals not a park. You can buy bags of corn for $1 to feed the animals. There's a building where you park and get the feed and you can also try samples of cheese and make purchases of the local products! Delicious! The bathrooms could use a deep cleaning but the overall experience is great! Go early before it gets too hot! read more

Great time when it is free and has great animals. The adventure is definitely worth the drive. This scenic route can be found on the historic Socorro route. They have just upped the ante with an amazing burger and wings joint to reward you for your travels. Locomotive dairy is quaint, delectable and satisfying. I will continue recommending anyone that is willing to take the beautiful drive through the country. Animals are calming and the food is delicious. Clean facilities for their restaurant portion. We went during a week day and we pretty much had the whole place to ourselves. It was a lot of fun though! My 3yo really enjoyed feeding all the animals. We even had a duck follow us around the whole time which was super cute! Although I'm a little disappointed, I thought there would of been more variety of products made with the milk. Licon Dairy just recently opened up a new restaurant in there establishment called Outlaw Saloon and Grill. Before I went with my family I checked out their page on Facebook. It looked nice and everything it had nice decor which I liked. The restaurant looked pretty big in the photos. Two days later we drive to Licon Dairy to try out the restaurant. We got to the location, but we could not find the restaurant it turns out the restaurant is on the side of Licon Dairy. We thought it was a separate building. We go inside and to my surprise it turns out the restaurant is small. From what I read online The Outlaw Saloon and Grill used to be a storage room for the establishment. The restaurant looked decent and great which I thought. We sit down at the end of the restaurant the waitress came to our table, but she did not smile. She gave us menus I thought it was going to be a big menu like at Great American, but it was just one page of menu items. Which was a disappointment especially for this restaurant. First we ordered an appetizer we ordered nachos they came with pieces of steak, ranch style beans, some Chile con queso, and pico de gallo. First off who puts ranch style beans on nachos. It gave the nachos a bad flavor. The nachos were not good. Then we ordered our entrees I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich. My dad ordered tacos my mom ordered tacos as well. My cousin ordered a Chile relleno burger. After a few minutes our food came to our table. I took a look at my buffalo chicken sandwich. It did not look appetizing which i noticed something odd about my sandwich. The chicken was not breaded which was a shocker to me because most restaurants have their chicken sandwiches breaded. I took a bite of the sandwich and too my surprise I thought it was going to be delicious, but no the chicken was salty and it had no flavor. They probably just made the chicken without seasoning it first and they just dipped it in hot sauce. What a shame my dad said his tacos were good. My mom said that her tacos were okay, but not great. My cousin said her burger was good, but she did not like the burger. I tried to finish my sandwich, but I couldn't. It was that bad. The only good thing on the menu were the fries. Overall, The Outlaw Saloon and Grill is a great place to hang out and talk, but not for eating. The restaurant needs to get better cooks and better waitresses. read more

The town of San Elizario is a dump. My wife - who is Mexican - commented that San Elizario looks worse than Mexico. But that aside, this dairy makes some delicious cheese. We got the original variety, the jalapeño, and habanero. They were all really good.
