Lic's has always been a staple in our family. But the last year or so, it has gone downhill. The ice cream no longer tastes the same, the portion size of all items is half of what it used to be and almost double the price, service is increasingly slower, and the quality in general has just gone downhill. Today was the last straw for us. Service was so slow that people were leaving, salad had no chicken in it yet was charged for it, and the quesadilla was basically hot sauce soup. It's just so disappointing to see a community favorite go downhill. Hoping things improve soon. read more

I normally love going to Lic's but tonight was different. I brought my family in at 9pm and immediately a tall young man told us the dining room closes at 9:30pm. He was not friendly about the statement and then at 9:20pm he announced to a dining room full of people, "the dining room closes in ten minutes." He was less than friendly, again and it was apparent the other patrons were not amused by his attitude. The ice cream was great but this guy needs a lesson in customer service. He could have told everyone this in a nicer way. read more

Have been going to this location for several years now. Although today I had a bad experience, like several in the past few weeks. Being as it is cold outside I opted for soup and a grilled cheese. That is how I ordered it. A bowl of soup and a grilled cheese. I check my to-go box to make sure I had a spoon and crackers. I didn't have any crackers. When I asked for crackers I was told "oh we gave you garlic toast so you will have to pay $.50 for crackers." This was after I had already paid. Who wants garlic toast with soup and a grilled cheese. I didn't even order that. And since there were several other customers in the restaurant I decided I wouldn't complain or cause a scene. I am disappointed lately in this location. I go very often for lunch as it's very close. It seems to be a bunch of really young kids who aren't very welcoming or friendly. Every time I go I ask them to hold the pickles, I think they're gross, and they still put pickles on my sandwiches 50% of the time. Won't be going back for a while. read more

I got a milkshake here. It was a cookie dough ice cream milk shake. The milkshake was probably one of the best I've ever had as far as cookie dough milkshakes go. They don't make them so thick that to get it out of your straw is a workout itself, they make it just right. It was a very tasty treat and the next time I'm in Evansville, I shall return! read more

Great ice cream in a nostalgic setting! The special limited flavors are delicious and the cones are always nice and crispy. Service has always been friendly when I've gone in. I'm not from the area but I visit fairly often and every time I come to town I make sure to grab a waffle cone from Lic's. read more

Classic childhood memories are made here! The mixed chococremes (especially the cherry and chocolate ones) are still my favorite ice cream treat even though I've grown and moved all over the Midwest. Lic's was once an essential stop for me when coming in from living out of town. It seems the quality has deteriorated, which is unfortunate as the establishment has been around for so long. My salad was small and they seem to be skimping on the quality of ingredients used. Also, the tuna tasted spoiled. My daughter wouldn't touch it. The past three times I've tried it I was utterly disappointed. Not to mention they price their food as if it's organic and fresh. Do your taste buds a favor and eat elsewhere. read more

I used to eat here once every week or two with co-workers... that was back from 2006 to 2009. I changed jobs and ate here maybe a dozen times from 2010 to 2015 while I worked in Evansville. It was always great. My usual was the Grilled Chicken Sub. Even half the sub was a decent lunch, saving the other half for later or just getting half. After being out of Indiana for 2.5 years, I stopped here last week. Got the Grilled Chicken Sub again. This time, got a whole sub... NO CHICKEN ON IT. It had 3 tiny cubes on one half and 4 tiny chicken cubes on the other half. Hardly anything was on this.. it was a BREAD SANDWICH. Also, always before, the Coca-Cola tasted like it was supposed to, like Coca-Cola. This time, in February 2018, the sandwich was just bread and the "Coca-Cola" was a nasty carbonated water with a hint of some nasty Diet Coke. It was undrinkable. I drove about 45 minutes before I discovered the sandwich was all bread. I called them about it and they said the sandwich had the same amount of chicken as it always had. I'll call them again and if they don't offer to fix this, I'll charge them back through my credit card. read more

I have lived in this area over 40 years, and have eaten at several of the Lic's stores! Almost every time that I went there, the food was very good! Old fashion type of ice cream that tasted like you might have made it yourself, with chicken salad piled high on bread that was ALWAYS fresh like it came right out of the oven, and tossed salads with crisp lettuce, fresh vegetables, dressings and 2 slices of bread to go with it! About a week ago my husband went to pick the chicken salad sandwich on whole wheat bread, a cob salad I believe it is called with dressings, and 2 pieces of bread shoved inside the box with the salad! The chicken salad sandwich, what there was of it, was not good in taste and had more lettuce than chicken salad! The whole wheat bread was stale, and the cob salad lettuce was wilted, and the whole salad tasted like it had been made weeks before selling it! I have not been going here at this Newburgh location for a long time because of these same problems, but I thought I would try it out again! Boy was I wrong AGAIN! I do not see how anybody can eat this food! It was atrocious! I did not call this store and complain because they probably won't do anything to correct this matter since it has been going on so long!
