They have a great selection, and the food is always tasty--this time, I chose from the light entrees, the omelet with egg whites, veggies, and feta. The side is an excellent selection of fruit. First of all, the food was delicious, as always. The server was attentive and patient with us. However, this place is always really noisy, so it's hard to hear, and the service is slow. We love to just search for local, independent places to support when we are traveling. Today was no exception. Today we found Kite and Key in Evansville, Indiana while traveling. Stopped in on a Saturday morning and the place was packed! Always a great sign. We tried both coffee and a Latte and we both each had a different type of breakfast platter off the menu so we got to sample everything from biscuits, English muffins, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, eggs over easy and those wonderful German potatoes. We were seated at a table for 6 although there was only two of us. Forgot speak with the owner who was there working hard. Such a friendly fellow. The entire place was very welcoming! Another couple came in and they were seated at the other end of the 6 top we were at. Nice getting to chat and have breakfast with a couple we didn't even know. Food here was excellent and very reasonably priced!! We highly recommend for breakfast. Wish we could have stayed around and for the bread pudding we spotted on the menu!!! read more

Wow... Day one in Evansville via NYC. We followed our Yelp to this gem of a spot. Cinnamon roll french toast was great, combined with the ham slice (thick and juicy). Visiting our USI student and looking for a new place for breakfast! Kite & Key exceeded our expectations! Although there was a wait on this Sunday morning, the waitlist app kept us updated. Our server was super informative. Actually, all the employees were helpful. Our coffee cups remained filled and the food was amazing. Biscuits & gravy were excellent. The crepes and sausage platter was delicious along with the cinnamon apples and German fried potatoes. They are in the process of reconfiguring their menu and although avocado toast wasn't on the menu, they made it for us! The country Ben platter was outstanding as well! We highly recommend this cafe! Ok so before getting to the food or the service let's start with the actual cafe. Kite and key in reference to Benjamin Franklin does not disappoint - it's cute even if a little more story and a little less fact - it doesn't take anything away from what they have done and is absolutely worth taking a look! You walk in to this small but cute space and there are quotes on the wall that define many of the principles we associate with him. (And one from Eleanor Roosevelt another philosopher in my opinion whose writings have great value). It was well done and felt like someone cared to create this environment. Now to the food - breakfast is always tough to rate because it's not super diverse but the cinnamon role French toast was a nice change and the omelette was fine if a little well done for my liking The service was quick enough that I wasn't waiting overly long for coffee with several refills throughout the meal. The actual food itself took longer then it should. They explained that there was a ton of takeout in the back which I understand but still felt slower then I have with similar breakfast places. My overall take is this is a good place to add to a short list for breakfast in this area and another day would prob have quicker food come out read more

I've gotten take-out a few times from here. Each time, my food has been delicious with superb customer service. I usually get the blueberry pancakes, the website doesn't have blueberry waffles (my preference). Today I decided to call and ask if they made blueberry waffles. The lady I spoke to was very sweet and happily placed my order for blueberry waffles. They always make sure to give a good amount of syrup, butter and cutlery. We had Kite and Key for a Sunday brunch and had a fantastic meal. We did have a longer than expected wait for food but good coffee and pleasant staff helped the wait. The food was 10/10. They had The best German potatoes I have had in several years. They have a good and affordable kids menu. We tried omelette, pancakes, crepes, and waffles and all were very good. I had breakfast here on a recent visit and it was amazing. My parents were both from Mississippi and to say their biscuits and gravy were close to daddy's is saying something. Atmosphere was good but crowded and loud. I also had a BlackEye coffee (house coffee with a double shot of espresso) I consider myself a coffee aficionado (also know as a home Barista ) as coffee quality and taste is extremely important to me. Awesome experience here today. We're visiting from out of town and we had a great breakfast. Only about a 15 minute wait for a table and our server, Levi was great. I ordered a SF chocolate mocha and the inventor omelet with a hot cake. The coffee was FANTASTIC and the food was good too. Definitely a little too much onion in it but I picked it out. Great decor-old country store style, early American/Benjamin Franklin themed. Fast and friendly service. Food* was delicious-it came out fast and hot. *The food took me back to when I was child and would go to my Great Aunt's house in the Kentucky countryside. The food did not taste like it was from a restaurant, it tasted better-it was like I was in the kitchen of an old country cook who had generations of wisdom passed down to her. It was so well done and delicious. If you are disappointed with the breakfast here than you must not know what great food tastes like. This is the place. I will be back as soon as possible and I'll be bringing people with me. Keep in mind this is a small dining room that can seat maybe 50 people. I found this restaurant when looking for a non chain restaurant that serves breakfast in Evansville. Take a look, it's not a very long list. From what I gathered, this is a fairly new but very welcome addition to the city. Even though it opened in 2016, there are many pictures inside that nod to Evansville's history. It's a very quaint and welcoming restaurant. I had the Country Ben, which was essentially a combination of Eggs Benedict and Biscuits and gravy. Very tasty. Good service and good food. Now, in my case, I was seated right away, but the restaurant is really small, so I would expect to wait at prime breakfast time. First time here. Very busy Saturday morning, but had a lot of servers. 30 min to get food. Oatmeal wasn't done. Eggs Bene was good. Food was pretty good. I had the "bellybuster". Not sure the portion size would would lend itself to the name given to it but was pretty tasty. Biscuits a bit spongey and the accompanying gravy was nothing special but overall I had a pleasing plate of food. My issues started though shortly after ordering. My son and I were asked to move to the smaller table next to where we were seated. I was told a large group was coming in and needed the larger table. No problem I thought, as happy to oblige a family or group of friends in need of the larger table. When the hostess moved my coffee it spilled onto the table and unfortunately my pants as well. The cause of the spill was a wobbly table. So if you are seated at table nearest the entrance beware....do not refill your coffee cup over half way. Or perhaps the table is fixed by now but I have no plans on returning to find out. At this point I'm still ok with everything even though the lap of my pants is still wet from coffee. But then the "large" group entered that I sacrificed my table for. This group was not large. It was two adults and two small children. In fact, I would wager that because Of my height and long legs, the 4 that that were given my table would fit much better than my son and I at the table I was exiled to. In the past, I had called in regarding reserving a table and was denied. A policy I completely understand given the small dining area. But the fact this policy does not apply to all raised my ire enough to email kite and regarding my experience and to get clarification on this policy. Their lack of response to my concerns has prompted me to search for other breakfast options. Please feel free to turn me on to any alternatives. read more

This place is amazing this was my first time as soon as I walk in the door I was seated. Host /waitress was very nice. I order steak with eggs and German potatoes with onion. The food came out in a reasonable time Fresh and hot. The food was well season ( u might want to taste before add more). The price for the meal $15 large portions the chef can definitely cook.
