Spotted this from the road as I have been staying in Newburgh for a business trip this week. Other reviews seemed solid, so I gave it a try - on a Sunday morning. The place was BUSY. But I was seated immediately, and my server had my drink order out quickly. This is a step above your typical greasy spoon diner. It's quite nice, a little loud at times, and if you wanted to have a cup of coffee and listen in on the conversations around you, easy to do. I ordered one of their breakfast platters - country fried steak covered in sausage gravy (yum), scrambled eggs (light and fluffy), hash brown potatoes (excellent) and a short stack of pancakes. Special praise on the pancakes - they were perfect. This place is great. Prices are VERY reasonable for the portion sizes. Would come here again in a heartbeat. read more

Had breakfast with my husband here. Beautiful flowers everywhere very welcoming with a great outside area just too hot to try it now lol. I had the eggs Benedict with fried been tomatoes instead of ham and is was very good I do wish the tomatoes were cut thicker though so you got more of them. Our waitress was very friendly and on it never had to wait for anything. My husband had the skillet I believe it was a Spanish one he really liked it. Coffee was good. Bathroom was clean. They do lunch and dinner so we will be back to try those. read more

This place has the best fried fish tacos. Nothing about them is "authentic" it's flour tortillas, amazingly delicious fried fish, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and spicy sauce that's to die for. I have since moved away from the area and every time I'm home I have to get some. I've never tried anything else from Nellie's but 1000% recommend. read more

This place is fire!! If you're a BIG breakfast eater, this is your spot! Prices are fair and there is WAY too much food. I had a ham & cheese omelet with hash browns and it came with toast or pancakes. I thought it might be one pancake, but nope, it came with three huge pancakes. Needless to say, I barely made a dent and had enough left over for two more breakfast. Service was super friendly & prompt. Was recommended by some of the locals so we gave it a try for breakfast. Loved the hometown feel of the restaurant. The service was great as everyone helped each other. The food wasn't bad, it just lacked seasoning, just bland. The pancakes are as advertised, very fluffy and the star of our breakfast. We eat at Nellie's frequently. Usually the food and service are good. Not often, but every now and then it is disappointing. Today was a very bad experience. We arrived at 2:10 and placed our order at 2:15 pm. 15 minutes later our server advised that they were out of meatloaf. We requested chicken as a replacement. The server came back and said breakfast only (I guess because it was 2:30 and they close at 3:00). Had they advised us earlier that they were out of meatloaf and chicken - perhaps we could have ordered something other than breakfast. The server was rude and obviously unhappy - we ordered an omelet and toast in place of the meatloaf. The server took off without even asking what kind of toast. When the meals arrived - my husband got a grilled chicken sandwich (loaded with mayo) instead of the salmon ordered at 2:15. When we pointed out the error- the server said - no salmon - breakfast only. He took the chicken sandwich and did not give my husband a chance to order anything else. We did not get any drink refills- our son didn't have enough to drink to finish his meal. Maybe the server was having a bad day. An apology instead of a rude attitude would have gone a long way toward smoothing over a very bad experience. This is not typical at Nellie's and we certainly hope it is not a trend. read more

First time here.. there was a 10-15 min wait, but it was worth it.. the breakfast was really good. I had the fruit French toast, with a side of 1 biscuit and gravy. The fish tacos were delicious. Two large tacos, the fish was crispy, spicy dressing. Served with one side. I had the creamy Cole slaw. It was fresh and the dressing was lightly sweetened. The restaurant seating is spacious and they had a huge, beautifully decorated Christmas tree in the center of the main dining room. The staff was friendly. They did add a condiment charge to my friend's bill when she asked for mayonnaise to go with her salmon patties though. She said they were very tasty. Very nice place. Reasonable price. Food portions are plentiful. Plus our server was so patient and fantastic. I was able to get two kids meals plus add ons to each. Two adult meals plus add ons. 4 drinks all for less than $50. Bonus the food had flavor. I didn't need to add salt, pepper nor even steak sauce to my food. Bravo Nellie's! Possibly one of the highest rated places around in my opinion. Food is always good, and I mean easily above all other diners around. It's also crazy fast and cheap. In reality it is the best bang for your buck in the tri-state. Service has always been good for us, and we've been dozens of times. In the beginning it was sometimes too loud, but they fixed it with the sound dampeners. These place is just next level all around. read more

Just one drawback that the omelette seemed a little bit greasy, and they were limited on their toast selection. In town for the weekend and this was close to my hotel. Cute little diner /family restaurant atmosphere. I got take out #reuben and Cole slaw. Nice thin deli meat, and a lot of it. It could have been grilled just a tad more because the bread was just a tad soft, probably steamed itself by the time I got back to my hotel. The creamy cole slaw was also a good portion and tasty.
