The first time I had Italian cream cake from Lida's was in the 80s and I have never tasted a better cake. It was AWESOME. Over the years I have had that same cake two other timesand it has always been really good until this year, 2025. I ordered it on Friday, picked it up on a Monday expecting a wonderful fresh cake. It was more like three days old. Very dry and I was very disappointed. I spoke to others about this and they all agreed that Lida's is just not as good as they used to be. I don't know if it's just a new generation of bakers or what, but I could not give them a five star. They did have the cake ready because like I said it was a three day old cake. But you shouldn't have to pay $17 for a three day old cake. I could've taken it back but we had company coming and I cannot bake like I used to due to my health so we ate it . My parents are in their 90's and we figured they've done enough cooking for their four sons, daughters in law and grandkids -- so this past Thanksgiving we gave them a break and let Lida's do the cooking. We ordered turkey, dressing, gravy, green beans, mac and cheese, cranberry sauce, both chocolate fudge pie and pumpkin pie, etc. The price was very fair, and the food was excellent. We picked it up the day before, well packaged in aluminum foil covered tubs and plastic jugs... and already properly chilled so it could all be reheated in time for Thanksgiving lunch the next day. It leads me to believe their cake icing must also be awesome. snickerdoodle - 3 stars. It was too soft and falling apart. oatmeal raising cookie - five stars perfect coconut pecan cookie - if we had a six star option, I would go with six. cranberry bread - I found no cranberries in it!It was still yummy sweet bread but no cranberry. They sell daily entrees, casseroles, pies, cakes, cookies. I saw that Tues - Fri there is a lunch buffet that includes tax, drink, and dessert all inclusive for $7. I can't rave enough about how wonderful this place is!!! I called a few weeks ago to order bundt cakes for my wife's birthday party out at LJT. The girl with whom I spoke on the phone was polite and helpful. I explained the occasion, and she helped me figure out what I would need. The day of pickup, someone called about 30 minutes before close just to make sure we were still picking them up. Another point for customer service! We ordered two large bundt cakes, one chocolate and one lemon. These two massive cakes at $35.50 still costed less than a single, smaller cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes. The presentation was GORGEOUS. The lemon cake was drizzled with a homemade lemon icing, and topped with fresh lemon zest. The chocolate was also drizzled with homemade icing, and then topped with chocolate shavings. And then there was the flavor. Good Lord, the flavor. Out of this world. Moist, fresh, mouth watering, rich, and just unreasonably AMAZING. I've never had lemon cake that struck such a perfect balance between tart and sweet. We could actually taste the fresh lemon juice that was used, but it wasn't overpowering. The chocolate was the closest thing I've ever had to my favorite chocolate cake from my childhood. If you're looking for a sweet treat or a cake while you're in Stephenville, Lida's Food Basket is the place to go! Everything I have had was very good. The pies are great. Havent had lunch there but the service there has been great. I was hoping to get a little pie one day and they were out. She offered to make me one and pick it up later. My schedule got in the way but service like that is always nice to receive. Of course I will go back and tell others about this place. read more
