These were some amazing pies. My family and I shared all of these so that everyone could try some and we were not disappointed. My favorite was the Blackberry while my moms was the peach, dads was the coconut and my brother said his was a tie between the peach and blackberry. The crust was perfectly cooked, not soggy, the sugar sprinkled on top was a great addition for some crunch as well. The girl at the counter was very nice and was excited when we told her came here on recommendation from Chet the Daytripper. Let me warn all of you potential future Pie Peddler customers. Their pies are going to be "sweeter" than your normal pies you make at home. Know this going in. Their pie crust is also going to be specialized. It's a bit thin and crisp, but also a little chewy. Their crust isn't the big and thick kind. Please leave your reviews based on the "quality" of the food - and NOT on your personal preference. My group loves their pies. We get multiple kinds. The consensus favorite is pecan pie. Which again, is going to be sweeter than what you might be used to. The place is always clean. The workers are almost always nice and friendly. Though, when you hire high school girls, you will occasionally get the girl who is "too cool for school" or be more engaged with chatting with her friends/co-workers than helping the customers. BUT more often than not, the staff here is almost always on point. My only issue is the chocolate pie situation. We just went a couple days ago about 1 PM. No chocolate pie. The girl says that somebody came in and bought the entire pie and "we only make one chocolate pie per day." I'm looking down at a case that has THREE peach pies in it. I would bet my entire life savings that pie shops sell more chocolate pie than they do peach pies. So why make three peach pies per day and only one chocolate? Now before you scold me, there is a backstory. I've been to PP probably 25 times over the past few years. And they've been "out" of chocolate pie on 11-12 of those visits. That's just about 50% of the time. Never been out of pecan, never been out of apple, never been out of cherry, and so on. Sooooooo if you are constantly sold out one flavor, but you have 3 friggin peach pies up for grabs....maybe you need to adjust? Now the annoying part. On those 11/12 visits where there was no chocolate pie, almost every time the worker has said "hold on, let me get you a piece from the cooler" and they go back and pull a new pie out of the cooler, and cut me a piece or two. I usually get two pieces if they do that or sometimes even just buy the entire thing (as a thank you). The older male, who I'm assuming is the owner, has done it a couple times for me. This recent trip was the first time that the worker didn't. When she said they were out because a guy bought the whole pie, I asked "is there one you guys haven't put out yet back in the cooler?" And she said "no. we only make one per day." Maybe they are now only making one chocolate pie per day. But it seems odd they would make several peach pies and only one of the way more popular chocolate pie. Especially considering the chocolate pie filling is no doubt made in a huge batch and then slapped into multiple pie crusts. I'm not faulting the girl, as maybe that is what she was trained to say. But it is a tiny bit annoying to drive an hour (both ways) to find out they have no chocolate pie and the worker won't grab me one from the back - which is what has happened the other 11 or 12 times. TL/DR we love their pies and the building is always clean, the workers are almost always fast and polite. Their pies are sweeter than most, and they have a specific type of crust. I wish they would figure out a system to fix their chocolate pie shortage. read more

I came here on Memorial Day with my family and could not have been more disappointed. We walked in at 510 when they close at 6 and the "kids" working here treated us really bad. They had what looked like some of their buddies in the back and when we went up to spend MORE money and order additional things they acted super frustrated. I told the guy "sorry were bothering you" and he responded with "it's ok" not no you aren't bothering us etc. The food was awesome but for them to be advertising all over Glen Rose and the Fossil Rim where we heard about it their customer service is awful. What's sad is the pie was good but the way we were treated would make us never want to come back. Best strawberry rubbard pie I've ever had. Perfect tartness. Crust was perfect for my taste. I think any of their fruit pies would be good. The key lime was ok. Neither the graham crust nor the filling was very good. And it was topped with dairy cream instead of real whipped cream. If I were the owner with those pies I'd ditch the fake cream. I wanted so much to like their pecan pie but it was more like it was made with the dust of pecans instead of actual pecan pieces. They were so tiny you could not even distinguish the pecans from the custard. Also it was way too sweet for my taste. It did not taste like a southern Texas pecan pie. I hate to be a hater, this is such a charming place. We all wanted it to be the best pie we ever tasted, we varied our choices so we could sample an assortment of flavors. Unfortunately, the proof is in the pudding, or in this case the pies. Here are our observations: The Good 1. Cute as a button place with pie paraphernalia throughout 2. Sweet ladies who are eager to peddle their pastries 3. Mile-high merengue, perfect texture and taste The Not So Good 1. Across the board, the crust was tough. Not crunchy, not crisp, it was hard to cut through and a substantial chew in your mouth. 2. Every variety we tried...buttermilk, chocolate, coconut, berry and cherry were very, very sweet...just a little too sweet. So although the good points outnumber the bad, extra weight has to be placed on the quality of the pie, and unfortunately, it's not a slice we will seek again any time soon. read more

I had the apple pie and my husband had the blueberry pie with ice cream. He enjoyed his pie although he stated it was a bit tart. I on the other hand am usually a lot pickier. The pies were $4.50 per slice which I thought was ridiculous for what you got. The pies tasted store bought but I am sure they were made on the premises. They were "flat" not enough filling to justify the price neither was the crust flaky in texture or buttery enough in flavor. It satisfied my sweet tooth but so would an $0.89 candy bar. A must stop if visiting Glen Rose, pies are out if this world good. We had the buttermilk as recommended by fellow Yelpers and all I can say is that after the first bite the hubs just said "If this is a piece of heaven, I'm ready to go, Jesus please take me now!!" We had also the chocolate, the apple a la mode and the coconut, hey don't judge...we where already here so might as well sample them all. Don't bother. The only coconut their Coconut Pie was sprinkled on top of the meringue. Otherwise, it was a lackluster vanilla custard pie with a tiny sprinkling of coconut on top. My husband ordered the Key Lime pie that tasted only slightly acidic and nothing like key lime or even lemon and there was no meringue or cream - just the very thin pie in a crust. Both pies were way overpriced at $4.50 each. The place appeared to be run by teenagers and several were moving around through the kitchen area eating pie, socializing, and not wearing masks. This quaint little pie shop is run by retired (pie) teachers. Actually I'm not sure if they're ex pie teachers but they are ex teachers. All their pies are made without preservatives and additives so we had to put our pie over ice to make sure it didn't spoil on our long road trip home. We got the chocolate pie and found it to be a tad watery after we got home. If we had eaten it at the pie house I'm sure it would have been the right consistency. I was a little disappointed by the pie this trip. I often go to Granbury or Glen Rose and make a stop at pie peddlers for an afternoon snack. The buttermilk pie was thin and runny and when I asked if the coffee was fresh, they looked to see if there was coffee in the pot only. The little Colonel and I accidentally stumbled onto this great fresh pie place after the little Colonel bought a train car load of stuff at Magnolia Farms at the Silo's last Wednesday. People giving them a negative review because they don't like the taste.....that's just ignorant. We all have different tastes. Let me repeat: their pies are sweet. Their crust isn't the light and flaky kind. It's not a big thick crust. It's more of a thinner, chewier, type crust. We just happen to love those two things. I love a sweet tasting chocolate over a deep dark chocolate. And I like the thinner crust over thick and flaky. But if you don't like sweeter desserts. And if you like big thick light and fluffy crusts.......you probably won't enjoy their pies.
