I admit that I have maligned Lidl in the past. They're still kind of weird, and they still don't have powdered coffee creamer. They now have GF tortillas. Still no actual bread that I could find, but the tortillas are wrap size! And not bad. BUT: their prices are much better than King Kullen, especially for produce. Which has seriously gone up. We all know why *rolls eyes* The produce selection is okay, not amazing. But they had everything I needed. One thing I do like about Lidl is the limited-time, well-priced specials. Especially cheese and sauces. They sometimes have very unique cheeses and other items. Currently, they have glow-in-the-dark Oreo cookies, Tate's pumpkin spice cookies, and pumpkin and caramel Oui yogurt. I can't eat the cookies, and the yogurt is fattening, but it was fun to see them. Lidl also sells odd assortments of ugly clothes and shoes, and occasionally useful housewares. I bought an emergency iron for $18! The box was open and damaged, but the iron works well. Service is mostly friendly. There don't seem to be many employees. The store is very bright, which is excellent for examining produce for spots, and they also have plants at much lower prices than King Kullen. I bought two African violets for $2.99 each! This store is farther away than King Kullen, but the savings on produce alone are worth the drive. I also got two jars of ricotta, red pepper, and pesto sauce. Never saw that combo before! read more

My friends who live in the area were super bummed when Best Foods closed and was replace by Lidl. They miss the higher level of prepared foods and brand name offerings. We checked Lidl out for the first time today. Prices were really low. Produce was really inexpensive. So was chicken. The set up is rudimentary. There are a lot of Lidl branded products there. This won't be our one and only supermarket, but it gets the job done for staples. read more

Lidl replaced a perfectly fine supermarket, Best Market. Best had a large selection of products, a wide variety of prepared foods, a large produce selection, and many cashiers making check-out quick. Lidl has none of that. Many brands one finds in a normal supermarket are not available. The produce selection is quite sparse. There are virtually no prepared foods. But my biggest complaint is checkout. There is usually only one cashier available, No self scanning. Today I had 5 items and had to wait behind someone with an order running well over $100. I usually travel 10 miles each way to avoid Lidl. I only go in emergency. read more

most of the produce, fruit (especially strawberries, blue berries and grapes always rotten) can't ever get a blueberry muffin; they put out a few, so you need to be there 8am to maybe get one. what really sucks is i got to liking a few different donuts/muffins/products and lately none are ever available. i drove 10x the distance to riverhead and the riverhead store has everything all times during the day. i can not afford the gas and the time to drive tot riverhead, daily or even once per week. westhampton...your fired! i'm no longer a customer. it is the schmucks behind his store that are not on site that have no clue. i believe the manager of this store is confined and controlled by upper management & might not be his fault. so, lidl supervisors that are not on site daily, have their heads up their ass. in the winter and summer where are the soups / salad bar? you dopes are missing & throwing out major revenue. your fired!!!!!!! thanks for nothing. i will be waiting to read about the lawsuits when someone trips & falls due to the damaged floor in multiple locations throughout this horror store. and i have just about had it being slightly electricuted while pushing a cart on my hands and arms. have the supervisors push your supplied cart throughout the store & let them get a piece of what us customers experience in this hell hole. middle finger up to the people that are not on site, that think they know how to run a grocery store. the guys / gals working the store are pushed beyond and are not getting proper assistance. and i donot blame them for the above red flags. read more

If Lidl wonders.why everyone hates this store.... So many reasons but here is one more... Just got shamed for returning a bag of chips I bought less then a week ago that were stale when I opened them. $4.50 bag of chips I had the receipt for. Two cashiers asking me why the bag was half empty (because I threw them out after putting them in a serving bowl because they were stale) I was just going to throw the whole bag away and then I thought..why should I eat this loss..a brand new bag of chips that were stale... Hello Friends.. The grand opening of Lidl in Westhampton Beach, the most controversial Lidl has come... WHB was previously spoiled by Best Market upping their game here with a sushi bar, fresh juice bar etc.. Lidl the biggest discount grocer has launched in the center of a resort area despite locals wanting a bit of gourmet for their vacation time out here. This is the only space for a full sized market. So its Lidl or drive. Parking lot semi filled but absent were the Mercedes, BMW's, Audi's, Land Rovers, mixed with local Pick up Trucks. Likely shoppers from outside towns coming in. The welcome/promo table had no one at it but the new staff. At one point I ran into a WHB'er and we both were looking at bags of small garlic cloves. Reading the source, we both passed. Plenty of press was given to garlic from the east and it wasn't good. So up to Garden of Eve in Riverhead or nearby over to Fruit King... reliable for garlic and produce. How to make the best of Lidl.... ok... loss leaders .. a bag of oranges.. medium sized nothing big and luscious only $1.99.. makes you think you must buy them.... I hesitated then thought ok.. I'll go home and make my own juice ( I hope the owners of Best Market are enjoying their retirement while hanging the locals that supported them out to dry).. hahah lol.... so that's where we are with fresh juice today. I'll be getting my orange juicer out.. or drive four towns over to the Eastport King Kullen. They bring in fresh squeezed on a rear end cap.. if your lucky there are always a few. Then saw an end cap with French seeded mustard and Dijon on sale ... almost free at 79 cents.. so got two.. not sure what I'll use this on.. but its here so ok. Can never resist European mustard, it seems better from there. Bakery... tried their au pain... croissants with chocolate....... got a four pack for half the price of one, normally out here... and tried a bite.... flimsy and a few chocolate chips scattered... made me think of racing over to Beach Bakery for something delicious. Speaking of which I picked up a generic bag of chocolate chips to try in my cookies. Basil Plants.. two kinds one local, the other unnamed... big well developed... need to get both and see if I can keep my basil supply all summer... likely last two weeks. But that was a nice option. Score two for the herb plants.. Total win. Milk, got an organic 2% milk for tea/coffee... that was pleasant enough. Saw some red cabbage and remembered this was a German based store - that looked good. Stores easily in the pantry and will always go well with potato pancakes made in December/January. Hahah Seafood was packaged /frozen. Longed immediately for local fresh clams - I am off to the edge of the village at Fruit King. Yesterday out to Hampton Bays Lighthouse seafood for fresh caught fish and a few other varieties of clams. But for staples... paper towels, napkins, nuts, low fat milk, On the Border chips, and above all a total score Munich made Hofbrau Beer - toward the back corner - I would come again... A few things were found useful. Had to forage but might find more next time. Will see. While the town wrings their hands, I'll drink some Hofbrau and open up some on the border chips and not need much more for a nice snack. In 10 days the vacation season opens.. that will be telling.. You'd love to be a fly on the wall as the vacation home owners are blasted with savings and fish to defrost, bread that isn't from Brooklyn, juice that may be a month old.... and cold cuts cut no time telling when and of what brand. This should be interesting. Will people be pleading with Citterella's to come here.. or for Donny at Fruit King to expand...? or will convenience rule the day? So one reviewer here could not get a smaller bottle of lactose-free milk and gave the store a very unfair 1 star. Oh heck lady, get over it. The rest of the low-raters are similar spoiled infants and sour grapes who expected whatever and got something else. LIDL is not Stop & Shop and not what you get in the other towns nearby, the very expensive Citarellas. This is an unusual, not your typical, or comprehensive supermarket like Stop & Shop, with less canned and processed foods than BJ's in Riverhead, or King Kullen in Bridge, which are very comprehensive. LIDL does not replace or duplicate what you're used to, but improves on what are not available in the other markets, where goods cost twice as much. It had plenty of fresh produce, unusual and terrific granola and wheat cereals from France and Germany - high quality goods one cannot purchase elsewhere, and terrific pies at half the usual price. On top of that, French croissants (yes, imported from France), made with French butter. Price at King Kullen (not nearly as good) $!.99; Citarella (yes, the fancy delis in the other towns that keep old and even expired food on the shelves) $2.50 and not as good, Pierre's (the French restaurant ($4-5!), Golden Pear $3+.......and LIDL, 49 cents. You heard that right. In some places the croissants cost 10 times as much. Baguettes are terrific and tasty, $1.99. At King Kullen, albeit larger, $6.99. Regardless of NOT EVERYTHING BEING ON THE SHELVES ON THIS VERY DAY (Jan 7th, 2024, just days away from Orange Man MAKING AMERICAN GREAT AGAIN - and he will no matter how many times the clown Kamala snorts, cackles and chuckles) or how many more indictments they serve him with, we walked out with four large heavy shopping bags of food for $220 that would have cost $350-400 at BJ's (albeit the packaging and sizes are different), and probably $500 at King Kullen. (King Kullen, BTW, has the best rotisserie chicken around, and COSTCO and BJs are terrific for other stuff in large bulk.) The large generic OJ at LIDL and BJs cost the same. All in all LIDL is what it is, different. And very good at what is sells. Now LIDL listen up! I miss the Szatmári Szilva Lekvár you sell in Budapest. That happens to be the best prune jam on the planet - especially terrific with croissants - SO GET WITH IT. All bakers in Hungary use it for good reason and Hungarians know more about baking in their little fingers than the French in their whole bodies. So please, stock your shelves with it, kapish? Well laid out. Easy to find things. Almost looks like a slightly better Aldi's. Same type of layout, combination of food and home goods offerings, and minimal staffing. Not a comprehensive supermarket, but good for some items. Very accommodating staff, even if there aren't many staff on the floor. Baker was very kind to us today. We love the baked goods more than anything else. The display is inviting. Draws you into the store. Our favorite is the rustic bread baguette. Delicious with salsa, avocado, cheese, or doused in olive oil. We love it even though it is essentially white flour. Croissants are very good. Our favorite among the baked goods is the raisin swirl. Delicious. The store brand non-fat Greek yogurt is very good. I am partial to the vanilla Greek yogurt. A few of the produce items are decent and well priced. Some not well priced - two green bell peppers for four dollars? We found their marinara sauce fairly good for making pasta sauce. What is not so good.? I love ginger snaps. I found that their store brand is inedible. First time I have ever disliked ginger snaps. The toilet paper is extremely thin. read more

Excellent market in Westhampton Beach for everyone except the whining privileged who lack the ability to share the world with everyday plain folk. So sorry you just can't cope with buying your own food instead of others to take care of such everyday day tasks for you. Face reality you go to sleep every night just like we do and wake in the morning just like we do, so get over it and enjoy what you have and be happy that you can shop locally for most of your daily needs. Absolute WORST supermarket I have ever shopped at. Very limited selection of products. I am lactose intolerant and must buy lactose free milk. They only had gallon containers of lactose free milk. It would spoil before I could finish it. No regular black tea, only flavored teas. Not to mention the very, very limited produce selections. And not everything is cheaper. One liter seltzer at Stop and Shop is usually between $.66 and $.75. In Lidl, it is $1.09. And then there is checking out. Not enough cashiers, no self checkout. And there is a phone app. So you wait while everyone finds the app on their phone and then finds their credit card and then packs since of course there is no one to pack. From now on I will make the 20 mile round trip to Riverhead to shop instead of setting foot in Lidl. read more

We had always loved going to Best Market in Westhampton and would take a drive to shop there. Today we decided to try Lidl and when we pulled into the parking lot we noticed it was pretty empty and luxury cars were absent. We saw flowers outside and thought it may be OK. However when we walked in, we were so disappointed. The store didn't feel inviting and had many rows of discount and off brand items. It felt like a Dollar store- not a good fit for the demographics of the area. Most of the the foods were frozen, canned or prepackaged. In the center there were bins of cheaply made items such, as a $10 dress or a barbecue grill for $19. They even had trumpets for sale. It seemed like a mishmash. It's true some of the items we may normally buy were a bit less ($5.19 for Coke vs $5.67 at Target), but considering the time one would waste having to go from store to store to shop, we'll stick with King Kullen in Eastport. At the end of our visit, we looked at the bakery and bought 2 pretzels that looked good. However, when I bit into it I realized they were stale, so we wasted $1 on that item which offset any small savings we made on our other purchases. We won't be back. read more

Update based on recent March/April visits. Lucite Lane Lights - so pale and blahhh...can barely see when they're ON or OFF - AND and they are mostly OFF . Divided belt system - they scan stuff , whip them through and then your stuff gets commingled with other items from next transaction. Items forgotten are left there on the shelf. I had to go back for some items. The "QVC Junque" aisle - picked up Travel Cubes, automatic corkscrew, ceramic knives, garden stuff. staff leaves it messy and a lot of dated stuff, like Holiday items and heavy sweaters, should be marked down or just removed. Fresh flowers and plants - no complaints with their vendor. Small Italian import selection was good, then dwindled to a couple bags of tortellini. There are supply chain issues.... Meat/ Chix/Fish. Thin sliced organic free range chicken well-packaged, fresh. Should have grabbed more, couple days later was gone. Beef stew meat - very tender. (Raves from the picky eaters club). A fellow shopper vouched for the individual portion Rastelli tenderloin rounds - for filet. Fresh Fish they could do much better. The sale salmon was fine, next visit this salmon going off code. But the Frozen Dill Salmon in Puff Pastry - if they have it grab it. Nice for Apps. (don't overbake) Produce is some, good some meh. berries have been decent, the Campari-dupe 'maters are YUM!! Found Broccoli and Quiche Lorraine one week but then it was gone the next. The hummus variety trio very tasty and good smoked salmon. Croissants always great BUT consume or freeze within a day or so or they turn into potatoes!! Lemon two-bite Madeleines were delish but again, second and third visit, off code. This has to be the absolute worst supermarket I've ever shopped at. Meager selection of what seems like mostly store brands (with labels cleverly designed to look like name brands) and hardly any of what we hoped to find. Only positive was that checkout clerk was pleasant, albeit barely interested. While Westhampton Beach has gone significantly upscale, the market in this location has gone the other direction. My husband and I have become great fans of Lidl although it did take a few visits to get oriented to the layout and find the tremendous bargains they have on high quality food. Among the things that we enjoy are a wonderful multigrain bread, the very fresh salad greens in bags and lots of interesting frozen food as well as the choice of salmon and shrimp. Beside our favorites, in general the prices are shockingly low for many items. It bears revisiting for those who only went once. Having been to Lidl stores in Spain and France, we were excited about their coming to Westhampton Beach and Center Moriches. First, the good part. The store is kept pretty clean. Some prices are very good, especially for seasonal fruit like peaches and grapes. The bakery items are fresh every day. Day-old loaves are discounted 50%, and they are perfectly fine. The pre-sliced deli items are a mixed bag--look very carefully for the expiration date. In the cheese section, there is no Parmigiano-Reggiano which in my view is a big failing for the Hamptons, where people are enamored of Italian food. Speaking of which, there is very little imported Italian pasta. Ordinary supermarkets have loads of it. Many people complain of the scarcity of name brands. There are some but are often more expensive than in supermarkets (e.g., Hellman's mayonnaise, Chobani yogurt). Other oddities: the only pretzels available are those small nubs stuffed with peanut butter. The signage identifying the products in each aisle is incorrect in most places. Surely, this is easy to fix. Finally, for now: there is no customer service desk or person. So, if there is an issue at the cashier, something that the cashier ought to be able to solve, he/she has to call for a supervisor, delaying everyone in line. read more

I have tried to stay open-minded but this store is truly terrible, especially so after its predecessor, Best Market. In addition to the myriad of deficiencies described in most of the other reviews, I would add that the store is poorly and illogically organized, making it extremely difficult to find many items, even with what can charitably be described as a very limited selection of brands and products. And they don't seem responsive to market conditions. For example, just prior to July 4th weekend for which we were having a family bbq, I tried to buy frozen lemonade and sauerkraut to serve with hot dogs. After several frustrating minutes of trying to find both items, I finally was able to find a worker to tell me where they were. I was told that they don't carry those items. While I would agree that a fair number of items are well priced, and that a few of the Lidl brand products were good (but many aren't), overall the store is terrible and unwelcoming. Going to Best Market was almost always a nice experience; going to Lidls is a terrible one and I leave as soon as I can. Couldn't be more disappointed. read more
