Supermarket big enough to have its own zip code. Great selection and sales. Wish there was a deli counter, butcher and name brand cold cuts.

I swear by the Stop & Shop in Hampton Bays, and upon entering the one in Riverhead I assumed it'd be a similar experience. In a lot of ways it was. There are plenty of prepared food options and precut fruit at the start of this store, and the selection of products is expansive enough to find everything you need. The store is clean and brightly lit. However, this location does not offer the option of slicing the bread from the bakery the way that the Hampton Bays location does. This is a shame, because my family and I love the sourdough they make, but it's difficult to slice on your own with just a knife. Not sure if they just don't have a bread cutter in back or if the woman at the deli counter couldn't be bothered. I'll stick to the Hampton Bays location for better service. read more

Came here to pick up some sandwich makings while staying nearby. The deli counter was set up very nicely for low-touch interactions. There was freshly sliced cheeses and meats that were already wrapped and ready to go, so it was easy to get what we needed without having to interact directly with people. Also, the self checkout was easy and another low interaction way to keep socially distant from others. There were wipes available on the way in and on the way out of the store, directional signs on the floor to keep traffic moving in a way that reduced crowding and overall, I felt safe shopping here. read more

I do not usually review grocery stores, but I have be holding this back for a while. I really hate shopping here. I do only because it's this one or one the one across the street. (Not a whole lot better). Riverhead's general demographics includes a large over 60 group and S&S certainly is blind to that. They used to boast that their open early for the seniors. What a laugh. Did they open early, yes. Can a senior get through the aisles at that time most times, no! They were stocking shelves at that time. Have your insurance paid up, if you get hurt navigating the stock carts, boxes and stock people. Most of the department area staff are rude and most will ignore you as you try to shop through try to ask a question. (I have to say here, the front end staff (non managers) are mostly the friendliest and helpful). Today, the straw that broke my silence were the three ladies (staff) in the cosmetic part of aisle 5 (I believe). $%#*, sorry I disturbed you if you needed to step back just a foot so I can pass, when I asked to be excused so I could get by. I mean #*ll, we are in a pandemic! And talking about the pandemic, no mask, mask around the neck, mask around the chin, and masks just covering the mouth, is not protecting the pubic, themselves, or the store for that matter. I can go on, but I think I made my point. It seems whenever I am in this store I leave more annoyed than the time before. I plan to use the smaller stores for my major grocery supplies. read more

Clean, bright store. Unfortunately that only serves to show how empty the shelves are. Every isle, including the frozen food isle gives the appearance the store is going out of business. Produce, dairy and meat seem to be operated by different ownership as those departments always appear well stocked. Guess this is part of their market strategy as this has been the situation for several months. If you want to shop at only one store, this is not the one to choose. Seriously lacking in customer service. Asked a young man if he had more kale, he said, it's going to be a very long while, instead of going to cooler to get me some. Ask another young woman about kale she got it, still kind of wilted. One man at checkout was nice but not coming back here. A lot of these young folks are lazy and don't want to move and have attitudes. No manager in store at 8 am, guess they don't want to pay someone and have these kids there who are rud.e read more

PLEASE RESTOCK ON YOUR VEGAN ITEMS!!!!!!!! I can't stress this enough, they had beyond burgers ONCE and never to be seen again, they only have TWO types of vegan cheeses and currently they are OUT OF STOCK of the Daya shredded cheese...this ruins my dinner. Also you guys need to keep the Chao cheese stocked. It's hit or miss with it. Obviously people are buying it since it's never in stock so RESTOCK it!!!! read more

Order pick up made it so easy for me with two small children. I just recently picked up an order where all of my produce was ROTTEN. Oranges, strawberries, potatoes, apples - you name it & it was rotten. I'm talking moldy rotten. Frustrating when you spend good money on groceries for it to be not even edible. Shouldn't be on the shelves to be shopped let alone put in a grocery bag and sold to a customer. Do better. Ended up in the garbage & I will never shop there again I'd rather go to shop rite. Their cashiers are nice, but the damn place is always crowded. That's not their fault, but it becomes tough to navigate, so I switched to Peapod Pickup. This review is for their Peapod service. After getting some substitutions I didn't like and using Peapod a few times, I've figured out how to make it work for me: 1. Don't order produce. It's not done by weight, so you will pay a flat fee per item, like $1 per apple. They will choose the smallest apple they can find. They will also choose the ugliest, hollowed out, most bruised potatoes and other produce for you. I've learned to make a separate list of my produce and go inside and grab it right before I am scheduled to pick up my Peapod. It's not convenient, but it's better than getting tiny sweet potatoes and not having enough. 2. Opt out of substitutions. They post your purchase to your account about two hours before pick up, monitor it (the items they cancelled because they've sold out) and figure out what else you're going to need on top of your produce purchase and grab it before your pickup time. This way, instead of getting seasoned frozen vegetables as a sub for broccoli, you can go grab cauliflower instead. It's not perfect, and it's not as convenient as intended, but you'll get what you want this way. The service is pretty strong otherwise, other than a limited selection online, but the way they choose produce for Peapod customers is seemingly pointed. They intend for you to get the tiny fruit/sub par vegetables, and that's not cool with me, especially with the flat fee in mind. Two stars for cutting corners. read more

This has got to be the most disgusting store in Riverhead! 1. The store is always freezing even in the summer! 2. Nothing is fresh! 3, Fresh vegetables are not fresh, bought a vegetable tray, exp, date 12/27/15, open it up Christmas Day, completely rotten! 4, Never has items on sale that they post in their flyer! 5. Check-out is a nightmare! Never enough cashiers! Need I go on? I sure hope Shop-Rite goes into the old Waldbaums in Riverhead! Stay away for Stop and Shop in Riverhead, unless you don't mind wasting money! read more

This store needs some competition. If you want really fresh produce and great deli dept. go to Best Market at 1088 Old Country Rd.. Their prices can't be beat. read more

This S&S had a special on mussels last weekend. They made a great meal at a good price. My biggest complaint is that the store is freezing cold so I'm anxious to leave ASAP. Speaking of freezing, the store brand Mud Pie ice cream is delicious. read more

The Stop & Shop in Riverhead is excellent. Great selection, clean, and easy to navigate. Some cashiers are friendlier and more helpful than others. And I'm hoping the store stocks more vegan products than they currently do. From a customer stand point, the Manager rates 5 stars. He always greets customers in a warm and friendly manner. And he seems more than happy to stop whatever he's doing to help someone find something. This gentleman seems like he truly cares. That's not always the case with managers of other stores. read more
