I was very impressed with the school, staff and how pleasant all the kids were during all the presentations.

One of my biggest concerns is the education. During 6th and 7th grade, I don't feel like I learned much in my English or Math classes because the teachers didn't seem to put much effort into helping students understand the material. In 8th grade, I had teachers who actually cared and made learning easier, and I appreciate that. But overall, I don't think this school has done a good job preparing students academically. Another problem is the way students treat each other. A lot of kids are disrespectful to other students, and even when staff members see it happening, it doesn't always seem like they do anything about it. It makes the school feel less safe and welcoming. I've also been on the volleyball team since 6th grade, and I have had some disappointing experiences there too. One coach, Ms. McDaniel, caused a lot of unnecessary drama, even with a team she didn't coach. It also felt like she had favorites, which made things unfair for other players. One time, I politely asked Ms. McDaniel if she could help tell people to shag volleyballs during practice. Instead of helping, she said in a rude tone, "Since you wanna be captain so bad, you do it." The thing is, I actually was one of the team captains. I was just trying to help the team, and I don't think I deserved to be spoken to that way. Coaches should encourage and respect their players, especially when they're trying to be responsible. Another situation that really bothered me was when one of my teammates respectfully spoke up because she felt Ms. McDaniel was being unfair during practice. Instead of listening to her, Ms. McDaniel yelled at her in front of everyone. It upset my teammate so much that she started crying. I don't think any student should be treated that way for respectfully sharing how they feel. I know no school is perfect, but I hope this school works on improving the education, making students feel safer, and treating athletes with more respect. I hope the school sees this and tries to make more changes in their program.

There is, in our opinion, no better option than the Meadows School. This is the kind of school that parents in Los Angeles, San Francisco or NYC have to jump through hoops to get their kids into, with massive politics and financial commitments at play. Yet in Vegas, many parents (including on our street) send their kids to Dawson due to its reputation for being easier and more artsy as they are terrified of the academic competitiveness of Meadows. If these same parents were in the Bay Area they'd be doing backflips trying to get their kids into the same sort of school there as Meadows. The campus is amazing. The curriculum is challenging. The kids are happy and very engaged in sports, theater, charity and other after-school activities. The parents are friendly and, especially the "Meadows Moms", work tirelessly to help out. Yes, your kid has to test into each school (K, middle, high). Great, we love a meritocracy rather than forced social promotion. And my daughter will have friends for life as she goes from K thru 12 here.

Interviewed for a coaching position with this school…read more.. After thinking the interview went well with the Athletic Director (I place no blame on him) I was told I will be brought back to meet with the other coaches and interview with them. A few weeks later I was then told I would be interviewing with 1 coach and 2 HR people. First off, since when do you need to interview with HR reps and 2nd, IT'S A CHEERLEADING COACH POSITION. Give me a flippin break. Four people for a PART-TIME cheerleading coach position! Had to sit through this interview while the "HR" people mean mugged me the whole time. I'm sure it's a great school; the campus was beautiful but why the HR interview????? Weird vibes from them.
