My wife and I have been working with David off and on since 2010! In the early days when we were dating, he really helped us learn how to communicate with each other effectively, and he QUICKLY was able to get to the root of items we were discussing. We've been happily married for 7.5 years now but still go to David (over Skype video) time to time for "tune-ups" if you will, and he is our trusted coach/advisor. Even after a multi-year gap, he remembers our individual and joint history and is a highly effective counselor. What I love about working with him is his patience to take in information, process it and then share insights that are usually spot on (either a story, a proven process/idea or questions). Yesterday, my husband and I went to see David to discuss our marriage. As a result of my search for a therapist, I relied on reviews as a kind of guide. As a result of David's ineffective guidance, we actually became more divided. Among the many things I did not appreciate was his announcement that I did not love my husband in front of my family. At that point, I had just met him and had a five-minute conversation with him. I was both applauded and upset at the same time. As far as I was concerned, he would speak positively and avoid division. Even though he indicated that he was direct, I perceived him as being more bitter than direct. He even ask if I was a bit ch infront of my 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. SMH. Being a non-confrontational person, I did not speak my mind, but I had time to reflect and talk to others, and he was extremely rude. My husband and I had a very positive experience meeting with David for marriage counseling. In a few short months, we have turned our marriage around and gained tools for lifelong marriage and self-improvement. In short, David is a great listener and a clear, thoughtful speaker. He obviously has tremendous experience coaching individuals and couples and working on his own growth. He is mindful, funny and humble. His special skill is distilling all of the "noise" of a troubled marriage into concepts that can then be worked upon. He helped us focus on the big picture and not get bogged down in the "he said, she said". My wife and I have been seeing David and Carrie as a couple for about eight months. We went in initially because of difficulties that we were having within our marriage in managing conflict. We had reached a point after 16 years that the smallest thing would cause a major escalation and we were wondering if we could get through it. I searched very hard to find someone for marriage counseling using my insurance and could not find anyone that particularly specialized in it. I have been to different professionals before seeking marriage counseling including an LPC as well as PhD but they were very vague and superficial in their advice. A friend of mine told me about David. At first I was hesitant, one because my insurance didn't cover it and two I have never been to a life coach. However, David is the only person I found in Austin with as much expertise in relationship counseling so I thought I'd give it a shot. David is a master at what he does. He is able to immediately see through the surface problems and connect the dots of what is causing them. In just a short time, we have made more progress than the combined time of our prior marriage counselors. A few sessions in, he recommended a relationship workshop. I was reluctant to attend because I do not feel comfortable talking about such personal things in front of anyone else. My husband also was anxious about it. The workshop was incredibly fruitful and definitely recommend it. It was at this workshop that I had a profound revelation that really helped open my eyes and heart. Some of them seemed to help, but never really got to the root of the problem. David is direct with you and asks all the right questions to get to the bottom of it. I've worked with Carrie for YEARS. Her work is so meaningful and helpful in my life. I think of things I've learned over our time together and how much its helped me with some of the challenges I chose to work on. I recently took a couple years off and moved to California so we hadn't checked in for a while. I called in to do a catch up session and dive back in, and I must say it's like talking to an old friend. We instantly reconnected and got into it! She helped me with some recent situations I wasn't feeling right about, she gives me a strong and sometimes different prospective, but always needed and appreciated. I love that after every session she gives me something to work on or think about so I can actually apply the work we have done. I'm always trying to be a better person and love that Carrie encouragingly and supportively helps me get there. She is kind, patient, easy to understand, and so compassionate. I cannot say enough good things about David! I mean, he has blown me away! The first meeting with him was scheduled by my boyfriend in Sept 2015 from a random Google search. Healing a broken relationship is not easy work. It is very hard and takes lots of practice. With David as a mentor, he takes great effort in making sure we understand what he is telling us. He listens intently and is very mindful about how he responds to what he hears. I have a major issue with control and codependency. I didn't even like my boyfriend being out of my sight for a few hours. Today, I am able to do my own thing and relax. I don't get worked up when things don't go the way I want and my communication with my boyfriend has drastically changed for the better. David has helped me heal areas of my life that I didn't even realize were still an issue. I went to one of the workshops on healing. I have to admit that I laughed at the idea of someone healing such a deep wound in my life, but not with David. The experience I had at that workshop was honestly the most incredible inner healing of my life. I have been to countless therapists and none of them have dug into my past and helped relieve me of the pain I was holding onto like David has. I am also extremely blessed to say that this man is a HUGE reason for my sobriety. I was killing my relationship and myself with my drinking. We were awkwardly greeted (David never formally introduced himself), we were asked to fill out an evaluation and waited about 15 min past our scheduled appt time before starting. In that time he never checked in with us or apologized for any delays. We didn't mind the home environment, as we run a business out of our home as well, but did find some behaviors strange. David was VERY casual and had a strange demeanor. I was told multiple times "no, that's wrong" and how what I was saying wasn't the point. I was asked pointed questions until I gave the answer he was looking for. We did not find this session beneficial, but felt worse after leaving. I think most of the points he drove home were pretty spot on, but the way he arrived at those points were exhausting and purposefully made us feel stupid. My fiancé and I went to do a set of pre-marital counseling sessions with him and he did wonderfully at helping us identify potential conflict areas and guiding us in how to deal with them in the future. He knows how to tease out the underlying issues and presenting them in a concrete way that helps people confront them and improve. While he will boldly point out obvious issues in the relationship, he is non-judgmental and genuinely interested in ensuring the success of your relationship. He is there to help you figure out how your own view of things is affecting others, and how to interpret other's needs with good communication skills. David is calm and goes with your flow of what you need. Contrary to a previous review, I do not find his "laid back-ness" off-putting in any way, but rather felt that he provides a relaxing environment conducive to being open and honest. I also really appreciate that he is very affordable, as he has a sliding scale. I would definitely recommend him to anyone that is either having relationship issues or just needs some guidance in starting out. We definitely still remember a lot of his tips and they have been helpful! I can see how he would be very therapeutic to visit in the event that you are experiencing a traumatic life event, or just feel lost and need some guidance. He is a great coach. read more

I attempted to see David for the second time today; however, he was not home (he runs his business out of his home). He comes pulling up a couple of minutes past our appointment time. No apology - just "I thought it was at 9:30". Yea, it was... When I pointed out he was late, his response - "Wow". Again, no apology. The amount of time it would take for him to get in the house, put his things down from his errands and for us to get settled in for the appointment, it would start AT LEAST 5 min late, and that's being generous. I should note, we started about 5 min late the last time, too, yet, he pushes you out on time. So, if you are going to pay someone $150 an hour, you should get every min of that 60 min. My time and money are precious, but clearly that is not important to David. If I felt he had helped me at all, instead of jumping to his own conclusions on the first appointment, I probably would have cut him some slack. You might ask why I came back, well, I didn't want to give up and go based off of first impressions. Plus, others seem to like him based on his reviews, so I wanted to give it a shot. He is not worth my time, since I am clearly not worth his. read more

Almost five years ago, I was in search of a counselor to help me go through a very tough time in my relationship. I had never gone to a therapist/counselor in my life but at that time, I was so unhappy and struggling so much to get through each day, I was desperate for someone to help me. Friends and family are great for comfort but sometimes you really need a complete stranger to lay out the facts and help you move on. I found David through online search and it was one of the best decisions I have made. I don't see him often now that I moved away but about once a year something happens in my life, either with family, with my relationship, or with my job that I have a hard time dealing with and I end up seeing David. I think people should keep in mind that many issues take multiple sessions to work through. But i find that even one session with David to be ver cathartic and i often find a solution to my problems if not during the session then few days after our session. I like his laid back style, I like that it is in his home office. I like that he says things matter of fact. I can't compare his counseling style with anyone else's since I have only gone to him, I just know that for me it works. He has a sliding scale payment system based on your income, which I think is extremely fair. He is very flexible and has often made last minute appointments for me. I have recommended him to many friends and they have all had positive experiences. If you are looking for a life coach or for talk therapy, and not a psychiatrist to prescribe you meds, I would encourage you to try one session. read more
