He was condescending, rude and unprofessional with me and my child. He had lots of grey hair, he was around retirement age. With the way he treated us, he should be retired and away from young kids trying to get their license! At this business, they make the first time drivers (many of the minis 15 or 16 years old, mind you) start with parallel parking. The student gets one try. If they aren't lined up directly in a straight line with the cones, you have to pay one more and book another appointment. Kids aren't given a second try or any "suggestions" on what they can improve on before the second attempt. I think that is quite fraudulent, especially with the condescending tone and word choice this old man had with my child and I. Perhaps we got stuck with an older gentleman while everyone else; who gave this place 5 stars; must have a pleasant adult observer. Too bad we didn't get that. Especially knowing these kids are first time drivers, you would think they would receive some patience and not an intimidating and rude experience from a business. Take my word, book your appointment with not this man. Too bad I can't remember his name, avoid a retirement age man for your kid's and your own sake.

The time spent behind-the-wheel as well as the closed course sessions were definitely very good with patient and good teachers and driving instructors. They taught her the rules of driving well. However, trying to schedule the Plus 10 hours portion of her contract has been tedious and quite unpleasant. The person who schedules these sessions at the Novi location has been offering times during the week when my sophomore is in school and it's difficult to find any availability immediately after school. At one point, I was even told to not call them and that they would contact me with availability as and when slots opened up. That's not what I would expect of a driving school that needs to have a better system in place for these private drives, especially when they're already paid for. Moreover, the majority of their clients are high schoolers who they clearly know can't book driving sessions during school hours. I truly hope they can modify their scheduling and get a system that's more conducive to helping high schoolers book their private lessons more easily.

And this is directly after a 6 hour school day. I have to say, I'm disappointed. Learning to drive should NOT be this exhausting. 1 star; wouldn't even recommend this cruel dump to my sister in law.

He started his lessons a year ago and I am amazed how much he has already learned with her. In the one year he has been taking lesson he is already speaking and he is at an intermediate level. He enjoys his lessons and to me this is the most important part of learning. They do songs and listen to music and he enjoys how Sonia makes learning fun. He does his homework on his own and he is always excited to go back to show her what he has learned. I highly recommend Sonia for children and adults. She cares and really wants her students to excel.

I have been wanting to learn Portuguese for quite some time. One reason is that I have friends…read morefrom Brazil who continue to invite me to go with them on one of their trips home, and I know that my Spanish will not take me very far. Luckily I met Sonia Harris, whose native language is Brazilian Portuguese, and she introduced me to her Sonia Language School. I signed up for a one-on-one tutorial, which meets right now for a hour once a week in a location that is comfortable for both of us. Don't ever let anyone tell you that language learning does not involve memorization. It does! But the key is how that memorization takes place. Yes, I have some vocabulary to learn, but how else will you learn to say "very cool" in Portuguese? I'm finding this vocabulary building process to be "muito legal" because Brazilians have incredible ways of saying just about everything. In addition to vocabulary, I have some grammar exercises. But again, Brazilian Portuguese is interesting and the way of saying things is so cool that you just want to be able to have everything they say roll off your own lips. It's "bacana." And then Sonia and I have spent time on songs, and song lyrics. What a great way to learn a language and a culture. And who doesn't love Brazilian music! Talk about "bacana"! I have also been reading some short stories in Portuguese and have even written one of my own. Maybe most important for me, given my interests, Sonia has provided me with a book my two contemporary Brazilian scholars whose work focuses on life in the favelas of Brazil's great cities. This has given me insight into political, social, and economic conditions. In combination with other works that I have read, films that I have seen, and videos on the Internet, my awareness of Brazil is increasing tremendously. Amazingly, all of my discussions with Sonia on the book and other topics has been in Portuguese. So, all of the vocabulary and grammar that I work on (oh yes, she gives you homework) really comes in handy and allow us to have the discussion. I am having fun. I am learning. Sonia is incredibly helpful and fun. Maybe I should make that "bacana." I am looking forward to my visit to Brazil with my friends and family.
