I know that COVID has drastically impacted business, but in order to keep loyal customers, you need to make some effort to keep prices reasonable and make some accommodations. The cost for membership is now 2x what is used to be! It's over $100 per person , with no added benefits. The machines are old and the treadmills are largely not functional, especially when trying to connect Bluetooth. The best parts of this gym are the nice locker room facilities, pickleball courts, and the indoor/outdoor pool areas. Personal trainers are hit or miss and the cafe is super expensive. We have since left for a smaller, less expensive gym that doesn't have a pool, though with the $30/person it's perfect for our family. I have been a member of Lifetime for over 10 years, and I don't even have the right words on how to describe their services. For the past few years their customer service has disappear. On September 16th I made plans to go climbing with my son during their open-climbing hours, just to find out that the wall was closed, I spoke with one of their managers and explain to her that I'm paying for this, so that we can use it. She assured me that someone will call me to have this resolved. No one has contacted me. They get their payment, but they don't care if we get what we paid for. This issue has happened before and it happened again on November 4th, same manager, same story, someone will call you, BUT THEY DID'T. We've liked life time. The only issue is we were mislead. We were told to upgrade to signature so we could get "free unlimited pickleball court reservations" (my fiancé and I play singles). But then after we reserved, they still charged us for reservations because we didn't play with 4 people. (Apparently, they only don't charge if you have 4 people-all with signature memberships- which is obviously not easy to come by). I understand businesses have certain practices to increase their revenue, but I am not sure why they did not disclose that beforehand. Maybe it was a sales tactic and we fell for it. While some of the staff is incredibly kind (the rest will ignore you), the rates keep going up and the hours keep getting cut. I joined the gym years ago was paying 70ish now over $100 a month. On weekends when we have more time to play they just shortened the hours yet again. Prices going up while services being cut. They don't tell you either when they increase prices. I've gone to Lifetime Algonquin for four months now. For the most part, I use my membership to attend group fitness classes. I would recommend checking out two classes specifically: Pound and Life Barre. Both are taught by skilled, engaging teachers. After four months of basically doing 2-3 of these classes (combined), I can honestly say I'm seeing results! The results are verified by the awesome machine they have that measures your body's changes. I look forward to stepping on to that machine every month to see what has changed! As far as cons, I think they need more staff on duty for those of us who don't know how to use all the equipment. Also, as a petite person of 5'0, I was told from the start that none of the weightlifting equipment (which takes up half the gym) would work for me. That was a bit of a bummer, to be honest. (We didn't even cover how to use it during my 'onboarding' sessions.) Equipment that works for more heights would be nice. I do think the classrooms and locker rooms need to be cleaned more often, as well. Sometimes, you can tell that the mirrors haven't been cleaned in a while. The mats used in classes are also wearing thin and often have holes. Another improvement would be barres on a mirrored wall or two! I'd love an actual ballet barre to stretch on. read more

Went to Lifetime spa for a pedicure today. I was taken to the chair (which was broken and in disrepair) and told to soak my feet and she would return. Fourty minutes later I caught the receptionist as she walked by and I told her no one had been back after waiting 40 minutes. She went to check but didn't come back quickly to let me know what was happening. At that point I walked out and told her I was leaving. I got an, "I'm sorry." That's it! I think they double booked the nail tech. Not her fault but all they had to do was tell me. I would have rescheduled. Now I will not ever go back! read more

This is a wonderful facility- and although prices keep going up you can see the staff always trying to make it the best- over the past year there has been a drastic change in the cleaning department(not sure if they are operations or maintenance). The staffs attitude has changed from rude to kind and helpful. The locker rooms have been so clean- the fitness floor could use some help staying organized but I blame the other self entitled members who leave weights on bars and attachments on floors( Like come in guys all the attachments have color tapes that if you look at the machines or attachment trees you can find the color and put it away correctly). The young man Austin who is in charge of that department, is actually working with his team and doing cleaning or helping the next super star I'm about to mention. Then there's that one girl(she wears a hat and has super short hair, but she is unbelievably strong saw her lifting the black treads by herself and made it look easy) she fixes the machines, I recently found out she is the only one who fixes the machines- but if you go up to her and voice a concern to her directly the problem is usually fixed within 24 hours, and if it's not she will look for you and give you an update in person. She goes above and beyond and is also very knowledgeable about everything going on the building. Don't get me wrong I've told the personal trainers about machines not working and they look at you like it's my fault, like no I just want to have the machine work or know why it's down. That girl she is great- plus we have the same first name! Wow. Just wow. And NOT in a good way. I recently moved out to Elgin from Chicago. My bf goes to Xport Fitness. I go to Planet Fitness. We tried to see if getting a mutual membership would work, seeing as that we now work out together and no longer need separate gym memberships (but need correct equipment for all parties). So together we went to this Lifetime to check it out. We were told that it is a $40 fee (PER PERSON) to even try the gym for the day. So $80 to just try a workout there?!?! ***with NO offer of a tour*** That's more than a month membership at either of our gyms wherein we can bring each other as guests indefinitely mind you (which we were willing and able to pay) just to see what all is offered! And the "gentleman..." and I use this term lightly, was the most rude individual I've ever encountered. I understand paying a premium price for a premium product and/or service. I fully support that. But this man...omg I've never in my life been treated so disrespectfully. We all have our bad days, so I'll chalk it up to just that. BUT - will not be returning and just signed as a duo at a different gym in the area due to how we were treated. Check your staff, LifeTime. read more

I joined Life Time to build muscle and to improve overall health. I did not realize what I was really getting when I joined. I planned to lift weights and swim. What I discovered was so much more. I found Yoga and started with Yin Yoga and, after several months, I progressed to Vinyasa Yoga. This translated into better overall health and I also gained flexibility I had lost for decades. I also discovered the Rock Wall; I discovered climbing at age 51 and I absolutely love it. I now do cardio, Yoga, Pilates, weights, and climbing. Is Lifetime expensive? Sure it is - but add up a bargain gym membership for weights and cardio, then add access to a climbing wall, toss on a Yoga membership and I bet you find that you are saving money. Sure there are times when the gym is packed and you can't do what you wanted to do at that time but I have had the same problems elsewhere. What you cannot find is so much access to so many types of disciplines for the price. read more

Although I do believe this is still the best club in the area....I have to update and say the brand/company is starting to do what Bally's did. Get too full of yourself and screw your original customer base. I was a member for quite some time here. I noticed the mens showers decline. Some kind of weird smell comes from the shower drain and they constantly pour some creepy detergent over it once in a while. The water temperature in the mens showers seems to have had the "warm" set to a lower degree to save some money which results in an almost room temperature shower experience ....very cold for a shower. In the summer....They just like throw their brand out the window and let every person on the face of the planet come into the pools. Urine soup after that many kids crowd a pool. So I never use the pool in the summer due to the over crowding and TONS of parents just drop their kids off there. In the summer they have a kids camp where tons it becomes just bat shit crazy in the locker rooms. They should be using the family locker rooms but don't. Once they bring the kids in for potty break in the mens locker room the bathroom becomes a pig stye. I was supposed to be locked into a rate and over the years they continued to pack onto my membership fee. Even though they said it was locked in....it is on THIER side. They can increase at any time. The prices on the haircuts are fricken outrageous. The spa massages were just eh....OK. Also I noticed over the years they go through a lot of gym staff. The good people have left this place and it makes me wonder. It was like a mass exit of employees one year and that made me suspicious. I don't like frequenting places that treat employees like dirt. Well after all the crap I've put up with for the last few years....I finally quit. They really focus on family family family....I get that. I love that...But they make you feel like you don't matter if your a single person attending the gym. They make much more off family memberships OBVIOUSLY. I see there is a lot more arrogance and unfriendly faces with staff members and they don't stay too long. If you try to send an email to corporate....It will just go straight to the gym manager...what do you think they are going to do. Cover up crap and make excuses. That's exactly what I got anyway. Ok, truth be told I was really skeptical and not really interested when a few friends recommended I join. The cost alone was the biggest factor. But, with my daughter's school being out for the year I could no longer go to my usual yoga studio due to lack of childcare. I also was drawn to the fact that there is an indoor and outdoor pool. So even though I was less than enthused about the price, I signed up. We've now been members for about a month and I think it was a great decision to join! My daughter is always nervous with new places and the staff in the kids club has been so friendly and accommodating. I love that they have special activities the kids can do. Much better than another gym I belonged to where the TV was always on and the staff didn't seem to pay attention to the kids. Also, the kids club hours are much better than most other gyms. We've done the indoor pool several times and it's great fun. The temperature is perfect and my daughter loves the slide. I really appreciated that during my "onboarding" appointment the girl listened when I said I was there pretty much for yoga, kids club, and the pool. She didn't waste my time (or hers!) with a long sales pitch for personal training which I would have declined anyway. She was friendly and offered to assist if I ever had questions. Finally, the yoga classes. I have a regular practice at a studio and at home but Lifetime was my first experience with heated yoga and I'm pretty much hooked. If you're new to yoga I would highly recommend looking at their other classes for more basic instruction on alignment and safety, as the heated flow goes quickly and becomes unguided after a certain point. But for me it's great. These classes are quite different from what I'm used to (my practices are usually slower, more methodical, still flows but longer holds) this class is great for just flowing, like a dance. And the sweat that happens is highly addicting. I still love my independent yoga studio and will likely return there for more classes, but this has been great. read more

This is my second dissappointing review for LTF in algonquin. I've been a member for just under the last decade, and up until the last two years - have been satisfied with the price and services. Recently, I've been terribly disappointed at the facility maintenance and operational staff. From disinfectant wipes being empty or broken for weeks to having a broken locker in a separate aisle five times in a row in one week - it's clear there's a lack of focus. Today I decided to bring the locker situation to the attention of an operational team member cordially, saying I was concerned with the consistency and this has happened several times in one week - I'm sure it's not fun for him, myself, or other members to deal with. To my surprise, I was challenged and was told I was "doing it wrong". As intuitive as the lockers are, I disagreed and showed him. It was then determined it was broken. I'm writing this review in the sauna, contemplating the value of the "extra" services with 24 hour fitness opening a mile closer to my house next year at half the price with an indoor pool and sauna. If the maintenance and staff were half as nice and competent as LTF algonquin, the reduced services and lower cost are a steal. LTF, this isn't a threat, it's a fact. They are open 24/7 Cons: You cannot, despite what the salesman tells you, use any location with your membership. Apparently there are color levels and your membership must correspond with your color (this was not explained by my salesman.) After having to upgrade to a "Platinum" membership because I wanted to go to the Burr Ridge location, it took about a half an hour just to get someone to upgrade me. Don't work with the personal trainers. They will badger you over and over again to buy training sessions. They pretty much tell you that you have no idea about nutrition or dieting. This wouldn't be so bad except they charge like 70 bucks an hour. You can go downtown and get sessions with a world class trainer for that price. This is in addition to the 70 bucks in membership fees. As stated in earlier reviews, bring some gorp and an ample supply of water for the hike from the parking lot to the building. What is with all the kids? That is all I want after my workout. Having to dodge a bunch of ankle biters. Why don't they make a lifetime kids? Don't give them your email, you will get at least three emails a week trying to get you to pimp out your friends. I know Lifetime can't control their clientele, but this place seems more like a meet market than a place where people go to seriously work out. I cant count how many times I have had to ask someone if they were using a machine because they were sitting there BS'ing rather than using the machine. I would go for a 24 hour fitness membership. Provided you have no intention of ever lifting you'll have a good experience. 99% of the guys walk around in cut-off shirts with their fat rib cages exposed. They'll knock out a set of curls then sit around and mingle for awhile, usually discussing their newest idea for another tribal tattoo. Also, don't quote me on this, but I do believe it is mandatory to carry around a protein shake in a shaker whilst attempting to workout. I believe these are issued at the front desk. Basically, the free weights are patrolled by meat-heads who do nothing but hammer curls, preachers curls, barbell curls, etc. etc., you see where this is going. I'd save the money and take your business elsewhere ... this place is always crowded. I liken it to walking into a college frat-house and trying to get a good workout in. Good luck! read more

I was a member here for a few years, on Mom's dime. The facilities are lovely, and the fact that they are open 24/7 is great for those who like to work out at odd hours. I used to be a regular at the aqua aerobics class, and I thought that was great.. never took any others though. The indoor & outdoor pools are nice, as are the sauna and steam rooms. I don't like that in order to get pricing, you have to call and listen to their spiel.. but maybe they have some really good reason for that, I don't know. I do know though, that if I lived closer to a lifetime facility (and didn't have free gym access at school), I would probably go back to them, with my decision being made mostly by their 24/7 hours. I have been a member for about two years now. Some thoughts... Pros - Very clean facilities. Outdoor pool was just renovated and is well kept as well as the indoor pool. The locker rooms were also redone recently and are also clean. - A lot of machines - Good programs - VERY kid friendly. Family changing room, good pools, etc. The staff is very warm to the kids as well. Lifeguards are friendly in the pool, the people at the Cafe are warm. Have had nothing but good experiences in the child care. One or two small incidents with kids, but they tell you exactly what happened and seem to be well in control. - Cafe usually has deals on protein shakes and the food is pretty good. Cons - No track. I really enjoy having one, but I just use the treadmill instead. - The family changing rooms are limited so if there are a lot of people for a pool class or a hot summer day, it might take a lot of time to get a shower. The showers in the family changing room tend to be broken, but the staff does offer to fix it when you ask. - There are quite a few gym rats that act like they own the machines. I was a member at Lifetime for years. While in the Navy, I froze my membership. The first straw was that I wasn't informed of the $5 membership increase when I reactivated my membership. Next, they flew a worn and tattered American flag for months. I told multiple employees, but nothing happened. I called one morning, and got the GM, Mike. Very unprofessional. He tried to tell me that he knows all about and respects flag code, but couldn't replace the flag as he had to order it through his corporate ordering process, and that they had been on order for weeks. Anyone that cares about the flag code would take the worn flag down and go to the flag store in Crystal Lake to purchase one on their own dime. He's obviously cheap and selfish, and just fed me a line about being a patriot when he is in fact a sheep. When I went in the next morning to cancel, I was told that a flag had just been ordered. This tells me that Mike lied to me, and didn't in fact know what was going on in his own "club". I now own my own gym, and have pulled 5 people from Lifetime. Thanks, Mike :) read more

Having not worked out for several years, I was very nervous about getting back on that horse. However, Mike, in membership sales, made my husband & I feel at ease and answered ALL our questions. I NEVER felt as if I was under any pressure to buy a membership. We told him our concerns & he made us feel very comfortable. He even took us around to talk to the right people and get all the information we needed. He has also checked in with us from time to time to see how things are going! We signed up for personal training with Scott H. - what a great trainer! Makes a workout challenging, rewarding & even fun! I used to be a person who hated working out but I actually look forward to training because I feel like he is just as proud of our accomplishments as we are. Sometimes I even feel bad about having so much fun while doing kettle bell squats! A little pricey for a couple but SO worth the money with a trainer like Scott! I can't believe how far we've come and how much I don't hate it! Great club! Very clean, awesome staff & such a warm and welcoming environment. You won't be disappointed. There is no contract anymore, you can cancel any time. The cost is very reasonable I think, for all the club has to offer. I've been a lifetime fitness member on and off for several years. As well as Bally's, XSport, and Snap Fitness. Lifetime is a great place if you can afford to enroll your whole family. The pool is great for the kids during the summers. And I could drop off the little one at the child care center to get a quick workout. But over the last several years the teenage crowd has decided that this is the "in" place to hang out. I can't stand having to wait to use a machine because a bunch of teens are standing around yapping instead of working out. Lifetime doesn't care because they're just another paying customer. So, I switched to a smaller gym. Change your policies lifetime. 18 and up in the weight area would be nice. read more
