Getting set up for En Barre class
    Tiffany J.

I never thought I would have the opportunity to go to Life Time because they don't seem to offer a free day pass. The last time I went to Life Time was well over 10 years ago in San Antonio. I remember that gym being nice, but I don't recall it feeling like a resort. This is definitely a resort. The amenities are over the top and I can see why the membership fee is so expensive ($129/month for this location). Luckily, my friend teaches classes at Life Time and I was able to use one of her guest passes. I arrived early so I could check in. I had to show my ID and sign a waiver form. The front desk staff is really friendly. Once I was cleared to enter, we went to the locker room. The lockers have a combo lock on them that you set yourself so there's no need to bring a pad lock. They really don't want you bringing bags and extra stuff to the fitness studios, so they encourage you to use one of the lockers. There are two studios, two yoga rooms, a cycle studio, a pilates reformer room, two basketball courts, lots of tennis courts, an indoor and outdoor pool, and much more. There's areas for group training, cardio, etc. Honestly it was a sensory overload trying to take it all in. The studios have a digital sign outside so you know what class is coming up. Members have to reserve a spot and the instructor does take attendance. Apparently some of the classes are very popular and they have waitlists. The instructors set up equipment for all classes so members just walk in and pick their spot. I will say, that they offer a ton of classes since they have multiple rooms so that is definitely a plus. You know that episode of Fresh Prince of Bel Air when Aunt Viv went to the dance audition and all the other dancers were snooty and mean and she was totally out of place (season 2, episode 7 - look it up)? Well I was preparing myself for those vibes, but luckily it was not like that at all! Everyone was really nice and there were all types of people there so I didn't feel intimidated or out of place. The class I took was En Barre. It's 45 minutes and it's a mix of barre, mat, light weights, and the bender ball. The class was really fun and went by fast. The music was awesome and the movements weren't terribly hard, but I know I'm going to be sore in the morning. After class, my friend gave me a tour of the place. It is extremely clean, incredibly large, and like I mentioned before, it's just sensory overload. Besides all of the space for equipment and classes, they have a café that offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, a mini bar (yes there's alcohol), a full salon, spa, and God knows what else. There's a huge area for kids and they offer kids classes so it's a good place for families. One thing I liked about the studio is that there is a little elevated stage that the instructor stands on so it makes it easier to see what they're doing. They have fancy lighting in the studio and depending on the class, they can make it fun like a dance club. I would love to try another class, but I have to wait 60 days before I can use my friend's guest pass again. She's allowed two passes per month so they definitely limit it, but it was awesome to have the opportunity to try it out for free! As nice as this place is, I can't justify spending that much for a membership. This gym is a bit far from me and it's next to the mall which is just a nightmare. They do offer a $40 day pass, but I would suggest befriending an employee so you can try it out for free!

    Broken suana

This establishment continues to disappoint with broken equipment , dirty sauna and steam rooms . Suana doesn't work properly. You have to reach underneath suana unit to click on otherwise it will only be 90 degrees in suana. I have complained on their app several times in the past 3 months and no one calls back . Don't waste your money this January. Management doesn't care about complaints but miss one payment and I bet you'll be stopped at front door ( PS I've never missed one payment :) )

Walking in, I received a friendly greeting by what seemed like the owner or manager. He gave me a quick tour of the new facility, and was helpful in answering any questions. Bliss Boutique Fitness offers multiple yoga, cycling, pilates and aerial yoga classes. Don't be shy if you're a beginner, their classes are great whether you're brand new or highly experienced. For the flow yoga class I attended, I believe Haley was the instructor if I remember her name correctly. Her yoga class flowed together really well, and her instructions were clear without being a distraction from your breath. She was able to provide multiple modifications whether you wanted to keep your practice easy or more advanced. I also appreciated that she had already set out mats, towels, and blocks for us to utilize before the class began. I had brought my own mat, but there's was more convenient since it was already ready for us. As far as the facility goes, it's very clean!! The natural lighting really makes the yoga areas zen, and the cycling room had black out curtains to make the strobe lights and music more fun. Restrooms, changing rooms, hand wash station, cubicle type lockers, and shower are all available to use as well. I came here as a classpass user to try this place out, but because I enjoyed it so much, I honestly might become a member! Hopefully next time I'll get to try their cycling and aerial yoga classes, no experience is needed if you're feeling skeptical. I highly recommend Bliss Boutique Fitness to everyone in the Friendswood area!

The instructors are well-versed in each of their low-impact, workout-exercise forms. I've attended Pilates mat, Mat Lengthen, Signature Barre (combo Pilates & barre & yoga), Define (oooh, baby!), Fly (silks) yoga, Flow (yoga), BB Bliss, BB Burn (ohhhhh, baby, baby!) and many of the 45 min. afternoon classes and 60 min. evening classes. I also took a Salty Yoga in the Salt Revival salt room! The only classes I haven't tried are those crack-of-dawn ones. Sending power to those ladies who workout before I'm awake! I am not, and have never been a ballet dancer. I am three months into classes at BodyBarre, and I can say that I am stronger, more balanced, and feeling better - because I'm moving small and large muscles during these workouts. BodyBarre is for ALL bodies, ALL ages. This is a place that truly welcomes, and encourages everyone. I would recommend anyone thinking of adding a little, or little more, or a lot of cardio to take a few BodyBarre classes at your own pace. For me, it was time to discover that I could do more for my health by adding some cardio in a fun, supportive studio. Locally owned, too! Paige, Samantha, Anita, Megan, Avery, Cassidy, Rani, Leilani, Sarah and Lori - you are incredible, and I'm so glad that you are sharing your passion for health and fitness with us!

In class, the instructor gently adjusts you to have lovely form and proper technique, which really makes a difference in how refreshing my workouts feel afterwards (apparently careless technique when I did pilates on my own sometimes just sort of left me feeling drained after my workouts). Having to pay attention elegant technique makes pilates from more than an isolated sweatfest during the day, and makes it seep into other parts of my life -- i.e. I've started getting compliments on my posture by my mother (the ultimate accomplishment). It's not too difficult for those just beginning -- the instructors seemlessly transition from warmup to sweatbreaking moves to cooldown. On the other hand it's quite quite sufficient for those wanting a good workout, and I've been satisfyingly sore from their classes many a time.

I have been going to PB for almost 3 years and I'm obsessed. PB is seriously one of the best things I could have done for myself and I feel like if you have tried the gym, hot yoga, OTF, etc and it didn't work for you...then try it here! The instructors are incredible, the ladies you meet along the way become family, and let's not forget about the results you get from working out! If I had one recommendation is to go consistently to see results. When I first started I went 3x a week and slowly progressed into 5 days after 6 months. I have gained muscle in areas I didn't know was possible, toned up, dropped weight, gained confidence, and never felt this good before. Now PB isn't the end all be all, I still have to be conscious of the food I eat but this definitely helps me achieve my goal of what I want to look/feel like! Hope to see you there!
